Photokeys by developer Appyfurious was released in the App Store last evening. This quite interesting application makes it easy and fun to create your own colorful keyboards in seconds, from any photo in your library.
Just take or import a picture, adjust color themes as you like and your keyboard is ready for use in any application.
If you’re unhappy with the results, refine your custom designs with manual controls to mix and match your own colors and achieve the keyboard nirvana. But wait, there’s much more to Photokeys, a 99-cent download from the App Store, than meets the eye.
Color your keyboard instantly
As mentioned, you can start by taking your own photo or choose one of the images already present in your iPhone’s photo library. The app will analyze the image’s dominant colors and create a set of shades for your keyboard. You can also tap to pick your color mood before taking a picture.
I blog from the beaches so I keep tons of beautiful summer photos on my device, from gorgeous sunsets and blue sky ones to stunning beach photos and gorgeous sea shots. I was able to use these images to create some eye-candy keyboard designs in no time.
Choose your mood
If the designs created from your own photos are not quite what you had in mind, Photokeys allows you to customize the color of the keys and text on your keyboard with sliders and other controls.
In addition to changing shades precisely by dragging on-screen sliders, you can just tell Photokeys how you feel (Bright, Dark and Indifferent) and the app will automatically adapt your color theme to suit your mood.
Oh, and you can name your themes, save them in your library and change them on the fly as your mood changes over the course of the day.
Here’s a laundry list of key features in Photokeys.
- Use photo colors to adjust buttons, background and text.
- Unlimited number of color combinations, each keyboard is truly unique.
- TOP 100 Emoji Emoticons are accessible right from the keyboard.
- Quick color settings: tap to pick your color mood before taking a picture.
- Take a shot or import a photo from your library.
- Auto-correction and predictive input.
- Change the way you use your keyboard in just a couple of taps.
For those wondering, the keyboard uses Adaptxt technology to provide auto-correction and predictive input. Like all software keyboards, Photokeys must be enabled in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard before you can switch to it by tapping the globe icon on iOS’s standard keyboard.
You may also want to give PhotoKeys full access permission to fully personalize your experience, if you like.
By providing virtually an unlimited number of color combinations, and taking into account the mood sliders and various other adjustments, Photokeys lets you personalize your typing experience with unique keyboards that truly reflect your mood.
I would highly recommend this app to anyone, especially if the existing crop of software keyboards available on the App Store don’t excite you much, and you want to come up with your own colorful keyboard designs without too much hassle.
Photokeys is just 99 cents in the App Store.
The installer comes in at 35.2 megabytes. The app runs natively on any iPhone, iPod touch or iPad model with iOS 8.0 or later and features native display support for the iPhone 5/5s/5c, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes.
