SwipeSelection Featured

A few days ago, we reported about an unofficial version of SwipeSelection that fixed a longstanding issue with using the tweak inside of Safari. After the attention brought about by that unofficial version, the original developer of SwipeSelection has pushed an update to both the standard and Pro versions of his landmark tweak.

Yes, both SwipeSelection and SwipeSelection Pro now play nice while in Safari, and fix a bug where swiping on the keyboard caused issues with auto correct. If you’re running either version of SwipeSelection, you’ll definitely appreciate this long-awaited update.

SwipeSelection change log

  • Fixed long standard bug where swiping caused auto correction to get confused
  • Added workaround to move the cursor in Safari on iOS 8

SwipeSelection Pro change log — includes the above two changes plus:

  • Localized the settings page into 19 languages
  • Updated the icon

It’s not a massive update, but if you’ve used SwipeSelection before, you know how annoying it can be to encounter the swiping problem in Safari. For users of SwipeSelection who encountered this issue and the auto correct problem, this can rightly be deemed a huge update.

What do you think? Are you a SwipeSelection user?

It’s great, can’t see a reason not to use it 🙂

  • Dylan

I take it this is incompatible with an app such as Swiftkey?

  • Fermin

Anyone know the difference between SwipeSelection and SwipeSelection Pro?

    • Niclas

Pro has more settings like sensitivity and keyboard swipe area.

so for some reason in safari i can’t make a selection, but the cursor moves as it should

    • sadaN

      Same here :/

That’s a limitation of the workaround I used to get cursor movement in Safari. I might be able to find a way to select text; but all the selection related bits of code I’ve tried on Safari don’t respond. Instead I’ve had to use an API that only deals with moving the cursor itself.

        makes sense

  • Noam

So what now… do I need to delete the unofficial version of SwipeSelection or keep it?

    • iky1e

This version includes another fix besides the Safari workaround. Install this new update.

I do not know if it was on you blog or somewhere else, but developer said that he wont fix it untill apple fix some safari issue. Did he fix it now because that issue was rezolved in 8.4 ? Or …

    • iky1e

I believed the Safari bug was an issue Apple would fix quickly. Instead they ignored the bug through iOS 8, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, and 8.4

As they still haven’t fixed it I decided it was worth the effort to put together a workaround to special case Safari.

Sad, someone had to do his job and took him almost a year to fix. What a joke…

    • And he isn’t even A3Tweaks!! lol

The found a bug in this tweek, try opening Safari, enter the first few letters of a site that you’ve previously accessed, for example “goog” and then run the swipe on the keyboard.

For me Safari suddenly closes. Anyone else noticed this?
