Pangu Windows

It’s been a bit of a wait, but the wait is finally over for those of you who want the absolute simplest way to jailbreak iOS 8. Yesterday, Pangu updated their jailbreak tool to allow users to install Cydia manually, but today as promised, the Pangu team pushed an update to the actual Pangu install tool, bringing an automatic Cydia installation to the table. It also beings native English text to the tool as well, so that we can easily discern error messages, and removes the wretched PP installer option.

You can download Pangu 1.1.0 right now from our downloads page. Unfortunately, the tool is still Windows only, but now that Pangu has many of the things its been working on completed, we anticipate that OS X support will be next up on their to-do list.

New Pangu Screen

A new screen in Pangu 1.1. It is suggested that Airplane mode is enabled during the jailbreak

As expected, Pangu sent out this tweet regarding the release of the OS X version:

We’ll be back with a full tutorial covering this latest version of Pangu. In the meantime, let us know what your experience has been like with this latest update.

  • Apollon Sally

I have already jailbroken and it is pangu 1.0.1, now I have downloaded pangu 1.1.0, it say “rejailbreak” should I do it or just wait for more information?

    • pegger1

If you already jailbroke on 1.0.1 and have Cydia installed, then you don’t need to touch Pangu again.

  • Okey pangu, here i come

  • rokemz

someone install cydia Substrate 0.9.5016 and everything is okay after rebooting because mine stuck on Apple logo after reboot .

IPad Air 16 giga wifi .

  • Pete LP

OPEN SSH not working in pangu latest 🙁

    • pegger1

      Download it from Cydia then.

      • Pete LP

Yea , i did downloaded it from cydia and installed it , But i couldnt connect it via the WINSCP

      • pegger1

Double check the IP on your phone.
        Proper user/pw (root/alpine).
        SFTP.
Is there a specific reason you want to SSh.

      • Pete LP

        Its not working still 🙁

  • bring_it_on

They say that with the new Cydia update the prepetual LOOP problem has been fixed. But I performed a JB and then installed Cydia the old way (through the duck) and once i setup a passcode and iCloud and rebooted, i got the loop. Has a fix for this issue finally arrived with this version of Pangu+Cydia? I had to perform a restore using iTunes so really do not want to go through the entire process again until this has been fixed.

    • bring_it_on

BTW I did this 2 days ago.

  • Lurker22

Yeah, gonna wait at least a couple weeks for all the bugs to shake out

  • Deepak Bains

iPhone 5S is again stuck at apple logo, after jailbreaking with Pangu 1.1.0.
I totally restored it through iTunes. and then jailbreaked it, then restored my data and enabled my passcode and touch ID and when I rebooted it, it is stuck on applelogo again.

    • Chris Buck

Everything has been very stable for me…But I have not added passcode back, just find my phone. Will wait on doing that. Been maybe five days or more very stable with about 15 tweaks.

  • Plistumichu

Does anyone know any solution for the boot loop issue?
I have a brick here due to this Pangu thing.

    • Chris Buck

was it during install of pangu or a tweak? Have your tired holding power button and home button until the apple logo comes back then immediately holding the volume up button to get into safe mode? Or the free tiny umbrella app on desktop (will make you install the free java for it to run) ?

      • Plistumichu

the problem is still with the passcode configuration. It works flawlesly till I restore the last backup. Then it dies every time I turn off the device in a booting loop.

  • sulaiman

guys i need help . My cydia is keep on saying preparing filesystem! i restarted many times but still doesnt work

    • Chris Buck

mine took about 10-15 minutes to prepare (didn’t restart). I haven’t seen anyone else say this yet (from what I have read ). I think I would delete cydia thru the pangu app and reinstall cydia again.

      • sulaiman

thanks , ill give it a try

      • Chris Buck

If happens again, I would try to install cydia like I did days ago via SSH and WinSCP or Cyberduck (on mac) and my tweaked method I posted on here. If you need it I will find and repost.

      • Chris Buck

Here is another poster (KHMI) that said this worked for him/her:
I solved my reboot problems!!! Here’s what I did.
Step 1: Backup with passcode or icloud turned OFF
Step 2: Clean Install of 8.1
        Step 3: Jailbreak
        Step 4: Restore phone
Step 5: Turn on icloud…Then restart, see if phone boots back up
Step 6: Set a passcode and touch ID
        Step 7: Reboot
        If all works enjoy!

Another poster said to make sure your phone is locked when plugged into computer Before opening the pangu app and starting the JB and that extra step worked for them.

      • rich

Chris Buck, I followed your instructions exactly. I still get the boot loop after enabling passcode.iphone 6plus

      • Chris Buck

Cool:-) Glad to help and Glad that you will now have some fun with the jailbreak tweaks!

      • sulaiman

OMG THANK YOU SOO MUCH. IT WORKS

  • Chris Buck

Yes, Jay Freeman said they are looking into it. You can see that message on the launch of cydia on your phone written in red right now…it is puzzling him right now but I’m confident he will fix it.

  • Joel Torres ツ

Anyone else’s device randomly respringing? Mine is, and I still have the Safari reloading issue, although not as frequently.

    • Wolfer

No problem here at my side, sorry, maybe some tweak u install it is not updated?

      • Chris Buck

2nd that advice, check tweaks first by uninstall one by one while testing safari/respring (so I guess to wait on each uninstall for 15 minutes or so to see if still does what you reported).

    • Sachka

Yes, it is not stable, I have a completely fresh restored firmware, no tweaks installed, not even an app installed, just browsing. it crashes slows down or simply freezes like not even home or sleep button reaction.

  • Todd Young

I would recommend folks wait for another JB release, as this one is still buggy with numerous reports.

  • andy

So if i jailbreak, the jailbreak wont damage the system?
slow down any performance and all, battery???
Should i jailbreak, is it safe?
Im on ipod touch 5th generation on ios 8.1 atm.

    • Chris

I haven’t experienced any issues on both my iPhone 6 and iPad 4 and that was jailbreaking using the existing operating system contents.

      • andy

Ah ok seems like its good then.

  • NeftyCorrea

After jail breaking has anyone have issued with reachablity not responding has fast if you weren’t jsilbroken

    • Chris Buck

Yes, the fix is to go to settings>general> and turn accessibility off then back on and test. That is the fix from redditt in the activator tweak page.

      • NeftyCorrea

Thanks man worked perfect I thought one of my tweak was causing it not to function thanks

      • Chris Buck

It’s believed to be activator tweak at the moment. Ryan will update it soon:-)

      • NeftyCorrea

Alright I had that tweak installed but uninstalled it yesterday and wouldn’t seem to work till after your comment Yea he needs to fix that asap

  • peticool

very buggy, restored my iPad 4, waiting for more stable release :

    • Chris

At the time of writing this I’ve had my iPad 4 running iOS 8.1 jailbroken for 10 hours without any issues

      • Sachka

I have restored 5 times and I can’t get it to work flawlessly, Try to browse apple website using safari. I want to check if it is just some ipads, mini retina and ipad 3 here, both buggy, it crashes the tab on mini, it slows down on ipad 3

EDIT: The verge website, and some other websites heavy on html 4 are really really painful to browse

      • Chris

This isn’t an issue with iOS or the jailbreak, Safari 8 in iOS 8 is just slow in general on older devices, I’ve noticed this since iOS 8.0

      • Sachka

It surely is, I made sure that I could browse correctly before jailbreaking, the results of post jailbreaking are horrible, iPad Mini 2 is not considered an older device, iOS 8 was tested first on A7 devices this year.

      • Lucus Bendzsa

my iPad 3 crashes a lot in safari so mad.

  • John Mclean

    where’s the mac jailbreak

    • Chris

      On it’s way, be patient

  • Fabian Lau

  • jgk11802

I’m still on ios 8.0.2. If I don’t like the jailbreak, can I just update to iOS 8.1 via iTunes?

  • jgk11802

I’m still on ios 8.0.2. If I want to unjailbreak, can I just update to iOS 8.1 via iTunes?

  • Allan Edwards Tibbitt

Went smooth as a whistle, BUT, can I put my passcode and find my iphone back on, because I am not comfortable with knowing if I lost my iphone6 plus someone would have a very expensive new toy.

  • Johan Ahlberg

I had a huge problem with the jailbreak. Well not the actual jailbreak, because that worked great. But when i restored back my backup and restarted the device it just showed the apple logo and where stuck there! I figured out that it was something wrong with my backup, something in the backup that had a conflict with the jailbreak. here is how i solved it:
I restored back my stuff without jailbreaking. then i did a backup to icloud. then i restored my iphone to factory settings and restored that backup i just did from icloud. then i did a new backup to my computer. then i was going to restore the phone again to factory settings to later restore the backup i just did to my computer, that was a backup of the icloud backup i just did, still following me? but instead i just tried running the jailbreak without a factory restored iphone and it worked! *phew*

    • rokr9

Did you try restarting your device after the jailbreak and setting up touch id and passcode?

      • Johan Ahlberg

After i restored my iclouds backup (wich is the first thing you do after a fresh factory restore) i jailbreaked with 1.1.0 and it worked great. After that i activated passcode, find my iphone and icloud again. and restarted a couple of times just to be sure it worked and my iphone actually started this time. worked fine!

      • rokr9

Ya i did that just now and thank god after setting up passcode my iPhone restarts fine. Previously I used to get stuck at Apple logo. Thanks for sharing the details. Cheers!

  • António Alves

I’ve installed Pangu8 on my iPad Air 1, No passcode, no find my iPhone, but I think i’ve updated via OTA, don’t remember. The Jailbreak went over and the iPad didn’t boot anymore, stuck on DFU MODE ( It’s what pangu and itunes says) but i can’t restore on iTunes – ERROR 4005. Screen just don’t boot, tried everything! can someone help me? Cheers!
