iOS 8.0.1 (No Service 001)

Apple’s iOS 8 has been rolled out 52 percent of all active iOS devices, indicating a slower rollout than versions of Apple’s mobile software in the past. Apple updated its Developer Center with the data on Tuesday, indicating that some of iOS 8’s early flaws may have slowed down its rollout over the last five and a half weeks.

Between Oct. 13 and Oct. 27, iOS 8 share increased from 48 percent to 52 percent – finally crossing the halfway point. The bump may have occurred after Apple’s release of iOS 8.1 on October 21, which most notably brought Apple Pay, Instant Hotspot, Apple’s iCloud Photo Library, bug fixes, and more.

Before, iOS 8 gained only 1 percentage point less than a month after its release, as highlighted by the graphs compiled by VentureBeat above. The update has been a rocky one to say the least, as it left users without service, unresponsive camera shutter issues, and unresponsive home screen issues that had many users pleading for iOS 8.0.1 days after the iOS 8 release in September.

For me, I haven’t updated to iOS 8.1 yet because I’m still waiting on my iPhone 6 Plus, and simply don’t have room on my iPhone 5s for the update that requires 5GB of free space. I suspect many are on the same boat.

  • Willie

When the official iOS 8 jailbreak is released, I’m pretty sure the number would become much higher!

    • Chris

The current Pangu jailbreak is the official release

      • Ali

He means everything packaged (Cydia) and mainly issue free (Passcode)

      • Chris

The term “jailbreak” doesn’t require Cydia to be bundled, nor does it imply it needs to be stable and bug free

      • Blip dude

That was more of a developer release rather than a release to the General public. With the exception of an iPad I’m currently selling, I’m gonna hold off until a version that is meant for the public is released.

      • Chris

Regardless, if it’s publicly available for download it’s defined as an official release which is Willie’s exact words.

    • Alberto Espinal

You took the words out of my hands (cause I’m typing not talking, jeje), just was going to type that!

  • n0ahcruz3

My iPhone 6 running 8.1. i wont be updating it anymore. Battery is OK, got the Apple pay no more reason for me to update it. I want to make sure its running smooth when i try to sell it.

    • Blake

      Why sell it?

      • n0ahcruz3

Sell it, then use that money to upgrade? I dont trade in. I sell it abroad for maximum profit $_$

    • Chang in Charge

This makes no sense to me why would upgrading to the latest and more than likely most stable version of iOS lower your selling price? Like was there a difference in selling price for iPhone 5s’s on 7.0 vs 7.1.X?

      • n0ahcruz3

Do u notice whenever u update to the latest firmware, older iOS devices runs slower? Like i said this iOS version made my i6 better when it comes to battery life, and Apple pay is enabled. I dont want to update it to a firmware that may disrupt longevity of the battery.

  • Jonathan

Wow, only 6 percent running iOS 6 or lower? I thought it would have been higher. There are 2 iOS 4.1.2 devices in my house, 2 iOS 5.1.1 devices, 1 iOS 6.1.6 device, 3 iOS 7.1.2 devices, and 1 iOS 8 device.

    • leart

      Only the last one count

    • Saeed ghattas

So here are the missing 5% that didn’t upgrade LOL

  • Saria Hajjar

    October, 5th: 47% iOS 8, 47% iOS 7 and 6% for earlier, totalling in 100%
October, 13th: 48% iOS 8, 47% iOS 7 and 6% for earlier, totalling in 101%?!?!?! WUT!! What is happening?

Day one: I can feel that the presence of the pie chart is going to haunt me forever. It is easy to remember, but hard to forget.

  • iNeedANameHere

Meanwhile we’ve gathered Android users who are on the latest OS…..

    • Someone is too blind to see 25% of Android users…poor iThing.

      • Cameron

oh come on, he was joking, he posted a picture of a hay field and you come back with actual statistics. Great job. Btw, 25% is still pretty poor and Lollipop would be the latest in a couple of days and probably gonna have the adoption percentage of 10% after 2 months.

“and simply don’t have room on my iPhone 5s for the update that requires 5GB of free space. I suspect many are on the same boat.”

Yesss…there has never been a time where I’ve been experiencing this before 8.0. I’ve had to delete many things from both my iPhone and iPad just to be able to update. Sad actually…

    • Saeed ghattas

You can update using iTunes and you won’t have to delete a thing to upgrade!

      • Jose Gonzalez

My thing is that I would love to avoid iTunes at all costs. Or else what is the point of OTA updates?

    • Chang in Charge

This seems like a real problem affecting a lot of people. I know at least a handful of people who haven’t updated or didn’t initially because of a lack of storage space.

      • Jose Gonzalez

Exactly, same happened to my boss and two of my co-workers. They had to delete many things just to upgrade.

  • justme

my iPad 2 sadly is on the list of iOS8 devices 🙁

I can’t downgrade anymore to the fast 7.1.2

crashes when I try to open this Page (trying to save the last wallpapers of the week)

    • Ryan Bartsch

upgrade to 8.1, its pretty flawless

      • justme

I had 8.1 and it’s a little bit faster but not like 7.1.2 was

  • oioile

Well, I am with the other half sticking to the lovely AUXO 2 !

  • Bugs Bunnay

might be useful to add that only devices eligible for the ios 8 update has been accounted for. if you add older devices like the very first iPhone… then that percentage would just about equal android’s or close to it

  • JustMeJip2

and the rest we are in ios7 waiting for a good and stable ios 8 jailbreak 😉

  • Guest

What is the longest time you have gotten your iPhone 6 plus battery to last?

    • Sokrates

I’ll do that with my iPhone 6

  • Yunsar

how long have you gotten your iPhone 6 plus battery to last?

    • n0ahcruz3

Now that’s impressive, sadly iPhone 6 doesnt have good battery life. Wish 6s Apple will decide to put a droid Turbo battery capacity.

      • Saeed ghattas

There you go. iPhone 6… 19 hours of standby and 6 hours of usage and still counting with 34% left on my battery. Not good enough!?

      • n0ahcruz3

Dude theres a reason standby is longer than usage.. But try again 🙂

    • Guest

      iPhone 6…

    • Guest

      There you go iPhone 6

  • Well we can’t expect every iPhone users to upgrade with the latest iOS 8 for obvious reasons, like it will become slow and drain more juice or won’t even enjoy the iOS 8’s full capabilities (for older iPhones).

    • onesimpleclik

I wish i never had updated my 4S from 6.1.3

      • leart

I never had a iphone 5 so I don’t have any idea, but the 4s on ios 6 was stunning fast, my 4s was for more than a year jailbroken on 6.0.1, amazing experience, my hope is that one day my 6.1.3 shsh will become usable 🙂

      • leart

The one on 6.1.3 is my iphone 4 that it is able to downgrade 🙂

  • Diogo Pires

Jake Smith, you now that you can update via iTunes, bypassing the
5GB of free space needed, right? 😉
