How to install Cydia on iOS 8 [video]

By , Oct 22, 2014

Cydia iOS 8

As you know, the Pangu jailbreak came out this morning and enabled the ability to jailbreak iOS 8-8.1. Unfortunately, the jailbreak wasn’t bundled with Cydia, so it’s not much use to the general jailbreak users by itself.

Thankfully, Saurik quickly compiled a working version of Cydia for iOS 8, which is pretty easy to install if you follow our 8 steps. We show you how in this hands-on video walkthrough.

Step 1: Jailbreak iOS 8

No items found.

Step 2: Install OpenSSH on your device from the Pangu app

Step 3: Download and install CyberDuck SFTP client

Step 4: Find your iOS device’s Wi-Fi IP address via Settings → Wi-Fi → ‘i

Step 5: Launch CyberDuck and connect to your iOS device’s IP address

Step 6: Download the needed Cydia files, and place them on your iOS device via CyberDuck

Step 7: While CyberDuck is open, click Go → Send Command and paste the following command and click Send:
dpkg --install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
Step 8: Click GoSend Command again, and type reboot and click Send. This will reboot your iOS device.

Upon reboot, you should see the Cydia icon on your Home screen. Launch Cydia to initialize and enjoy your new jailbroken iPhone with Cydia!

What do you think? Did this work for you? How does it feel to have Cydia running on iOS 8.1?

I did all of them and it works but in cydia there is upgrade for pangu and I did it too then my iphone shut down and keep rebooting.Springboard doesn’t show up. How can I fix it? anyone help?

    1. Download Cyberduck

    2. Obtain your IP ADDRESS by going into
settings, WI-FI and tap on the WI-FI you are connected to. Make sure you are
connected to the same WI-FI as the PC you will use.

    3. Open Cyberduck and click on Open
    Connection.

    Server = Your IP
    address.

    Username: root

    Password: alpine Then connect.

    4. Next you will need to drag and drop
the Cydia Deb files you downloaded from this page.

    5. Now since Cyberduck is not sending
commands, you will need to download WinSCP.

    6.
    In WinSCP enter
the same details as you did in Cyberduck in order to connect. After you have
done so, click on Commands and the Open Terminal. A window will pop up asking
if you want to create separate shell sessions, click OK. You will then be
presented with a new window in there paste dpkg –install
    cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

    7.
Repeat this process but this time
    type in reboot.

    8. Your
device will reboot and thats it done!

the instructions are a bit lacking bit otherwise it worked for me. I used PuTTY to connect to my ipod nad i used cyberduck when set to SFTP mode to transfer files to it. i would recommend logging in to it using the following username/password root password: alpine.

used winscp and did everything jeff said. can’t run command on my windows 8.1 to install cydia on my ipad air

  • Veronica Lowe

I got the files transferred just fine, cyberduck wouldn’t let me “send command” so I used winscp and then putty as well, it appeared to run it just fine, sent “reboot” and that worked as well, but once the phone booted, no cydia icon. anyone know what’s up?

  • KGNTSTNY

I’ve updated my iPad mini – with retina display (Wifi Model)
with iOS. 8.1 Through iTunes 2 days ago

    Yesterday I tried the Pangu
tool but it didn’t complete successfully and I had to reinstall the firmware
again and after a second try the tool worked well

I tried to install Cydia but while using the
Cyberduck tool to run the commands, the Send command option was not active. I
tried instead the WinSCP with the same method and worked after several trials.

    Yesterday I had applied the
0.2 Pangu update successfully and will check for the Cydia Substrate after I get
back from work and check it out.

Didn’t get a chance to check out for any
tweaks but will update you as soon as I do.

Excellent work (Pangu / Saurik) and super
    coverage here with iDownloadblog Team

    Excellent Job Guys …

If you want to get Cydia icon back, but don’t how to respring. Send command “killall SpringBoard” without quotes. If it does not appear, send command “reboot” or “killall SpringBoard” again without quotes.

  • Pitateen

ahhhh :/ i’ve done everything well but after the reboot i don’t find the cydia icon, is it because i use windows for run the SFTP application (i’ve used WINscp)

  • Lukas

It worked but cydia dosen’t show up, when im going into root – applications, it shows cydia.app.
    Please help!! 🙁

    • Mona299

i followed that and it worked for me, I’m pasting here.

If Cydia is not showing up on springboard after install & multi reboots: Use SSH to connect to device. Then use this command:
      ls /User/Library/Caches
This will show all files in the Caches directory, look for a file with the extension .csstore (my 6+ was named com.apple.LaunchServices-102.csstore)
      Run the command:
      “rm /User/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-102.csstore”
      Then immediately run:
      reboot
Finished. Just make sure you have the right file name because I believe different devices use a different number for the plist name.
This method re-runs launchservices on reboot.

After a fresh restore i tried again today, at first Pangu new didn’t install and i click the blue button on pang again and it woked, installed open ssh from pangu.
went to Mac and installed cydia without any problem. in cydia i installed cydia substrate first and then update Pangu. I’m very careful now about installing new tweaks.

  • JdawgHanks

I tried downloading it on my iPad 2 using WinSCP, but the command doesn’t seem to work. It stops at “Unpacking replacement cydia…” and doesn’t do anything else. Is it just not compatible with iPad 2? Or is there a different problem?

  • T maC

Got mine working i used winscp instead of cyberduck and when it comes to the add command bit make sure you placed the 2 cydia files before that in private, var, root folder not just the first folder it opens at

  • T maC

    Step 1: Jailbreak iOS 8

Step 2: Install OpenSSH on your device from the Pangu app

Step 3: Download and install WinSCP client

    Step 4: Find your iOS device’s Wi-Fi IP address via Settings → Wi-Fi → ‘i‘

Step 5: Launch WinSCP and connect to your iOS device’s IP address

Step 6: Download the needed Cydia files, and place them on your iOS device via WinSCP to folder private/var/root

Step 7: While WinSCP is open, click Commands → Open Terminal and paste the following command and click execute:

    dpkg –install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

Step 8: Close that command window and open it again → Open Terminal again, and type reboot and click execute. This will reboot your iOS device.

Upon reboot, you should see the Cydia icon on your Home screen.
Launch Cydia to initialize and enjoy your new jailbroken iPhone with
    Cydia!

The process takes awhile and the apple logo appearing looks like its in a loop but it will start after a short while.

    Hope this helps

  • johnny B

Well, I had the same problem and saved myself by doing this: Do what iClarified said Open the Pangu app, goto manager then remove. Click on the trash next to Pangu and yes While it is doing it’s job press the home button wait 5 secs go back to Pangu app and click force remove. Respring Open Cydia Enjoy

  • T maC

Cydia has been updated and it now works with a passcode without restarting the phones 😀

  • Menace

Does anyone know any good server to remove I cloud plz help duolci is down I need another server

  • terry ocheskey

if the terminal command ” dpkg –install
cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb” doesn’t work for you then use this one:

    dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

everything should work then! Oh and I found that sometimes Cydia doesn’t appear on the first reboot and that you have to reboot twice like you would if you were to install any other .deb file through the AutoInstall folder.

  • Hannah
