Apple is celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ performance on The Ed Sullivan Show with a new Apple TV channel. Simply named ‘The Beatles,’ the new channel allows you to watch the legendary British rock band’s performance on The Ed Sullivan Show from 1964. There are also links to the band’s digital releases on iTunes, which are available for purchase on iTunes digitally for the first time…

The band’s 14-minute performance from New York City is now available for streaming in its entirety, for a limited time.

The channel description reads:

The Beatles’ three consecutive appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964 brought Beatlemania into the living rooms across America. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of their arrival in the Sates with the Beatles’ U.S. albums – available digitally for the first time. Plus, for a limited time, watch the group’s historic debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

The milestone performance was seen by 60 percent of America’s television audience.

In addition to Apple’s $99 media-streamin box, the band’s performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, along with newly added iTunes music downloads, is available on Mac or PC via the iTunes Store.

The channel should automatically appear on your Apple TV’s Home screen. If not, apply the update manually in Settings > General > Software Updates > Update Software.

Back in September, The Beatles music became available for streaming via iTunes Radio. Other Internet radio stations such as Pandora and Slacker Radio have long offered Beatles stations, by the way.

Following a long-standing dispute between Apple and The Beatles’ Apple Corps, the two parties back in 2010 struck a landmark agreement to bring The Beatles music downloads to iTunes.

my apple tv crapped itself. it sucks, inferrior product from apple. had airplay issue and netflix issue; tried all solutions.

Did you try restarting your Apple TV?

      • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

yes. all solutions. latest update too. even restarted the mba.

Hmmm a negative Apple comment from someone with ‘Android’ in their username… Lets think about that.

      • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

i hope you dont think negative of me. it might look ironic but i enjoy both android and apple. im just making more people aware of the software half baked into apple tv. even the 1st/2nd gen is better.

i have a mba, win8 laptop, moto x, iphone 4,4s,5,5s and ipad mini. im not bias. i returned appletv within 2 months of use.

So, you’re on Netflix using Airplay, and it randomly kicks you off and starts playing on the iPhone again?
I had that, and the problem is so simple. you have a weak connect from the iPhone to your Wi-Fi source. Move your iPhone to a higher place/bring the Wi-Fi closer to your room.

      • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

No, I don’t airplay my netflix. I have netflix on Apple TV which has buffering issue. On my ps3 and xbox works fine. I don’t have a weak connection because I am on 5Ghz and the router is 10 feet away from me. Not only that, everything is wired except the iPhone (which I do not airplay netflix to the apple tv). It is not my wifi source. It is apple’s apple tv 3rd gen problem. Look in the apple forums. It was good for 2 months then it shitted itself. Tried to factory restore it and update it and still didn’t work. Airplay errors all the time. Even restarted the mba. No work around. Netflix buffer stuttered and airplay errors.

      • Jonathan

        Weird. Tried restarting your router?
Try to exchange it again, perhaps just a 2nd bad one in a row?

      • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

There’s plenty of people on the Apple forums under Apple Tv 3rd gen that experience this issue. I don’t think I would settle for a 3rd gen one. The router doesn’t have any issues with other devices. It’s the os of Apple tv.

      • Jonathan

Hm. :/ If you plan to get the next generation, I hope it works well.

      • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

thanks. i hope it works well for everyone. hope u seen so many unresolved issues on apple tv sub forum on apple site

      • Jonathan

I’ll just take your word for it. :P I have the 2nd gen and am pleased with it.

  • Jonathan

Please don’t call this a dumb question, but I am clueless. What can I do when I jailbreak my Apple TV? What new features/options can I use?
Keep in mind I know pretty much everything about iOS jailbreaking, just not Apple TV. So no need to call me dumb.

    • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

you cant do anything on the newer 3rd gen. only the 2nd and 1st gen. altho they are expensive since people prefer that one because they can jailbreak it. it can airplay too! some guy hacked it to give it that option. you mainly will use xbmc tho. watch espn and a lot of other random tv networks around world. but price is 200 around for apple tv 1st gen forgot about how much 2nd gen tho . 2nd gen can only plex flash which u dont use xbmc u use plex.

  • Mohammad Ridwan

meh.. apple tv without apps is useless.

    • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

it seems like it but its useful enough with airplay if it is useful.
