128GB iPhone apparently surfaces in German retailer’s system

128GB iPhone 5 (Media Markt, Macerkopf.de 001)

It was yesterday that the reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo called for a new iPhone model sporting a whopping 128 gigabytes of built-in storage – twice as much as today’s high-end 64GB iPhone 5 – and already a brand new SKU (Stock-Keeping Unit) reference has been spotted in a German retailer’s sales system.

Though we can’t vouch for the genuinity of the included screenshot, it looks legit seemingly depicting the retail system of Media Markt, a German chain of stores selling consumer electronics with numerous branches throughout Europe and Asia…

Though no specific SKU code is revealed, at first glance the listing appears to reference a rumored 128GB iPhone 5 rather than a 128GB iPhone 5S variant Kuo mentioned yesterday.

According to the German blog Macerkopf.de which posted the screenshot, the entry does not reference any specific device number so those X signs before the iPhone 5 mention might as well point to a 128GB iPhone 5S model.

Me?

I’m with Kuo: the 128GB variant is likely going to be an iPhone 5S exclusive. The 128GB iPhone in gold color should appeal to power users and rich people who like showing off, like Kim Kardashian.

Apple notably pulled a similar move by quietly adding a 128GB iPad 4 variant to the lineup back in March.

If the rumors are true, Apple will announce the iPhone 5S upgrade and possibly a rumored plastic iPhone at the upcoming September 10 media event.

This gold colored iPhone is just crap. That totally doesn’t fit into Apple’s line up. And since when are they making products for “rich people”?

    • Mohammed Sahib

Gold-colored, not gold-plated. And BTW, depending on your definition of rich, Apple products are for rich people.

      • Gorgonphone

it will chip and flack and turn to messy silver…lol

    • Gorgonphone

lol it looks corny as hell

    • Glorin

      SCHWARTZ means black, not gold.

      • Sokrates

        *schwarz. without z.

    • Kevin Guzman

They’ve making products for rich people since the iPhone was first released. One of my higher ups has gone through 9 different iPhone 5 64GB and he just keeps paying retail price for a replacement – $850. If $850 doesn’t seem like a very expensive phone, then you must be one of the rich ones.

      • Sokrates

Apple has a 50% gross margin on their iPhones. That’s insane. Still, the current iPhones are not specificly associated with rich people.

      • Kevin Guzman

I can agree with that. But if you look back when the iPhone first came out, there was only the expensive one. Then every year, when a new device is released, the previous model’s price is lowered to better accommodate people who can’t afford the newest model. That’s why I kind of like the idea of the budget iPhone, because then everyone gets to own a good phone, and I don’t have to worry about those green bubbles anymore when I text my friends.

      Since iPhone 666 ;)

  • Mohammed Sahib

Let’s hope Apple will just remove the 16Gb iPhone 5S and make 32/64/128Gb the standard at the same price points. This move will put one more difference between the 5S and the 5C, I believe the latter will max at 16Gb.

    • Alnando Espaillat

I really hope they do..16gb is simply not enough anymore especially with all of these hd images/videos and massive hd apps.

      • Kevin Guzman

Agreed, its not enough, but then there are people who use the iPhone simply for text, calls and email, so it wouldn’t make sense to make a customer purchase a 32GB if they don’t need all that memory. I still think 8GB is good enough for someone who doesn’t use their iPhone for anything else other than work.

    • felixtaf

Sounds really good.. But dont think gonna happen..

      • Gorgonphone

yeah me either cook is too greedy for that

    • Chliii

I agree. Just like they did with the last gen iPod touch

    • Burge

      Iphone C will be no more than 8 gig..Apple didn’t even make a 8 gig 4s, I wonder why

    • At

I really hope they do this too. 16 gigs is just not enough for what people use iPhones for now days. With 16 gigs you can only have so much
Music to leave enough room for apps and what not. $300 on contract for a 32 gig phone is hard to swallow, change that to $200 for 32 gigs, looks a lot more attractive to new and renewing customers.

  • Ted Forbes

I don’t save anything to my phone except for the photos that I take. Once the photos are saved to Cloud or Dopbox or my external hard drive it made empty again So 8gb 16gb or 32gb is more than enough for me.

I don’t need 64 or 128gb and i most certainly don’t need a gold iPhone. A gold rich iPhone! What for?

    • Stefano

8gb is never enough. 6.x amout of gig space before anything is saved

    • Martynet

I have 64GB iPhone 5 and it’s full… Most of the storage space is occupied by Apps! I have lots of games and some of them are huge. Few examples – golf, fifa, racing games, 3d shooting games etc etc… I will definitely get 128GB iPhone and iPad.

      • Mohammed Sahib

Same here! And I keep ~ 30Gb of music on my iPhone. iTunes match is not practical to me because there are neither 4G nor 3G networks in my country, and I refuse to pay for a slow 2G data.

      • Gorgonphone

        ipad needs 256

      • felixtaf

When they allow you to dualboot OSX and iOS!

      • Gorgonphone

        never

      • Kevin Guzman

My 64GB iPhone is completely full as well, nothing but music. No apps, no pictures. So 128 still won’t be enough, but its still much more room for more music.

    • Gorgonphone

16 is always perfect for me but ji want an 128 ipod touch 5g

  • Boss

Hope they drop the 16gb and make 32.64.128GB only like they dropped the 8gb

  • Dan

I can only imagine how much they will charge for the 128GB version…

    • felixtaf

      949$ Unlocked! nothing less….

      • Dan

hopefully they rethink the pricing, memory is not that expensive these days.

      • Gorgonphone

they dont need to cause folks will buy ijt no mater what

      • felixtaf

Folks will buy… But not everyone would like to shell out 100$ more for double the memory… How can you justify the price 16GB to 32 GB (100$), 32GB to 64Gb (same 100$)…

      • Gorgonphone

they apple logo justifies alot of over priced BS like the ipad mini1

      • felixtaf

Its Apple.. U know that… lol.. But as @mohammedsahib:disqus suggested, they cud do 32,64 and 128 (for the price of 16, 32 and 64), dropping 16 gb for the 5C… But dont think its gonna happen..

      • Gorgonphone

        nope

  • Mike

The color listed after the 128GB model is black, not gold

  • Gorgonphone

that should have surface 2 damn years ago…lol

  • Thomas Flores

I would purchase 128gig iphone as long as the camera is 16mp and up. Just imagine with the right telephoto lense adapter you can do with it especially with all the camera apps to shoot video and take stills. It would Definaltly push camera makers to step up their game and stop releasing cameras with missing functions just to establish different models

    • mehrab

      Megapixels. Donot. Matter. At. All.

  • Kevin Guzman

I know plenty of people who would choose the gold iPhone just because it will cost more (assuming it will be the only option with 128GB) – not that they’ll like the color, they will only choose the gold option because they’ll want to differentiate themselves from the rest who can’t afford them. I personally like the black slate color, so I’ll stick with that.

  • kahlil velayo

I’d like to give it a try. Gold color for a change. As for 128gb awesome.
