Facebook just posted a significant update for its iOS client, bringing the app to version 6.4. The update brings about a number of new features and improvements, including support for the social network’s new hashtag feature.

Version 6.4 also includes a new feature that allows users to make restaurant reservations from within the Facebook app. So if you see a place you’d like to try in the local business Pages, you can set that up with a single click…

Here’s your full 6.4 change log:

• Search for hashtags or tap them in posts to see what other people are saying about a topic
• Make restaurant reservations directly on participating Pages in the US
• Faster loading and a cleaner design for timelines on iPad
• Fixed a bug that was causing some people to see red notification badges when there weren’t any new notifications

Facebook just recently added hashtag support as part of a greater push to help it and its users keep track of trending topics across the popular social network. It works just like Twitter’s hashtag option, with pound signs indicating tags.

The OpenTable integration is part of a bigger relationship between the two companies that allows Facebook users to make restaurant reservations right from within the mobile app using ‘Nearby Places,’ as well as restaurant fan Pages.

Facebook reported amazing numbers for its latest quarter, signaling that the company is finally figuring out its ad business and capitalizing on that. And this new hashtag initiative and OpenTable deal will only bolster those efforts.

As always, you can grab the latest version of Facebook from the App Store for free.

How about making the FB app FASTER!!!

Yes, I’m on an older iPhone 4 – waiting for the next phone to upgrade – but FB has become so incredibly slow, that I only use the FB App now when I’m away from my computer and it is vitally important that I “update my status” (sarcasm intended)….

    • Om

I totally agree with you. I use an iPhone 4, and as soon as I open the Facebook app, I have to start on a white screen with a blue bar for like 2-3 minutes. Ain’t nobody got time for dat! 😛

      • Jason Dennery

        Time to upgrade.

      • Om

Aha thanks for the advice, Jason! I’d love to upgrade to an iPhone 5, heck even an iPhone 4S. But no $$$, ya know!

My iphone 5 takes 4 secs to load facebook

    • Susan

I often can’t even open FB! I am getting the white page with blue bar at top, then it automatically closes after 5-10 seconds & returns me to my desktop. Sometimes deleting the app then rebooting & reinstalling it helps…

I have a question. I tried to update my apps and it won’t work. Why is that? Even when I delete an app and install it again still won’t work. I’m running ios 7 beta 5 on iPhone 5

    • David Gitman

in ios 7 its updated by it self

      • Charles

        Ya it’s not doing that.

      • David Gitman

        because its already updated

      • Charles

I’m still having the problem. And I still can’t download apps. All it does is sit there and says “waiting…”

      • David Gitman

maybe you have problems with your WIFI. try 3G/4G/LTE

      • Charles

I did. I’ll just wait till the next software update comes out.

How do I search for friends now? Access my profile? Access account settings and privacy? Geez. So annoying. The whole left side of the app is gone.

    • Aaron

i had to delete the FB app off my iPhone 4S and then re-download it because the same thing happened to me. First it was working, then I noticed like you that the whole left side was gone, then I deleted it and re-downloaded it from the App Store.
