I’ve never been that excited about apps that feature wallpaper images. I figure I can take my own pictures for free that look just as good. I just don’t buy into apps that have sweet graphics. Again, a quick Google search would yield results that are just as good.
Pimp Your Screen is different because it does more than just feature a bunch of brightly colored pictures of nature, electronics, or pretty ladies. The app is set up to help you create a customized look for whatever mood you are in.
Version 2.0 features a newly designed interface that gives users access to content through a menu screen that organizes the wallpaper images into types, like Themes, App Shelves, and Icon Skins. Images are categorized as Abstract, Cartoon, Sci-Fi, Animals, Sports, Nature, and Holidays.
The app also features a Lock screen maker and a Home screen maker, which let you create your own image overlays from any of the included wallpapers, skins, shelves, and texts. You can even add your own photo and layer icon skins or shelves over it for a personalized look.
Themes include two-image packets. One is for the Lock screen, and one is for the Home screen. Most of the Home screen wallpapers in the Theme section will include app shelves or icon skins.
The app shelves and icon skins are special layers on top of an image that makes it look like either your apps are sitting on top of shelves, or surrounded by a special skin, like a glow or funny character.
The Home screen maker lets you choose from hundreds of included images, or add your own photo, and pick from a huge selection of different shelf or icon overlays.
The Lock screen maker features hundreds of different wallpapers to choose from, or you can add your own photo. Once you’ve chosen a background, pick a frame, like falling leaves, or a monthly calendar view for the current month. You can also add your own text and change the font style between 18 different fonts, increase or decrease the text size, and change the font and background colors.
Currently, there appears to be more iOS 6 style wallpaper images than iOS 7. Hopefully, the daily content updates will start to reflect Apple’s upcoming mobile software update design so that apps and backgrounds will look good together.
