Pimp Your Screen 1

If you want a new look to make your iOS device look just as good on the inside as it does on the outside, there’s an app for that.

Pimp Your Screen is a popular wallpaper app that features hundreds of Retina display quality images so you can make your iPhone or iPad dazzle. The developer recently updated to version 2.0 with great new features, including an improved user interface, a new Themes section, and daily updates to content…

I’ve never been that excited about apps that feature wallpaper images. I figure I can take my own pictures for free that look just as good. I just don’t buy into apps that have sweet graphics. Again, a quick Google search would yield results that are just as good.

Pimp Your Screen is different because it does more than just feature a bunch of brightly colored pictures of nature, electronics, or pretty ladies. The app is set up to help you create a customized look for whatever mood you are in.

Version 2.0 features a newly designed interface that gives users access to content through a menu screen that organizes the wallpaper images into types, like Themes, App Shelves, and Icon Skins. Images are categorized as Abstract, Cartoon, Sci-Fi, Animals, Sports, Nature, and Holidays.

The app also features a Lock screen maker and a Home screen maker, which let you create your own image overlays from any of the included wallpapers, skins, shelves, and texts. You can even add your own photo and layer icon skins or shelves over it for a personalized look.

Themes include two-image packets. One is for the Lock screen, and one is for the Home screen. Most of the Home screen wallpapers in the Theme section will include app shelves or icon skins.

The app shelves and icon skins are special layers on top of an image that makes it look like either your apps are sitting on top of shelves, or surrounded by a special skin, like a glow or funny character.

The Home screen maker lets you choose from hundreds of included images, or add your own photo, and pick from a huge selection of different shelf or icon overlays.

Pimp Your Screen 3

The Lock screen maker features hundreds of different wallpapers to choose from, or you can add your own photo. Once you’ve chosen a background, pick a frame, like falling leaves, or a monthly calendar view for the current month. You can also add your own text and change the font style between 18 different fonts, increase or decrease the text size, and change the font and background colors.

Currently, there appears to be more iOS 6 style wallpaper images than iOS 7. Hopefully, the daily content updates will start to reflect Apple’s upcoming mobile software update design so that apps and backgrounds will look good together.

Pimp Your Screen is available for half off at only $0.99 in the App Store. It is a universal app, so you can have different skins for your iPhone and iPad. Download it in the App Store today.

Since when the hell do you guys do sponsored reviews? This app is bullshit, everyone knows it!

    • ic0dex

THANK YOU!!! This crap has been on the App store for years now and it is the worst App out there.

      • Have you even tried the app before saying it’s bullshit? The app has an average of 4.5 stars with over 55,000 reviews on iTunes. I used the app a year or so back to find wallpapers and I found it really good. When we were told there was an update for it, I asked Lory to do a post about it. That’s all there is to it.

      • Hugo Peters

Yes, I tried it. It’s basically a wrapper for a Google Images search. It only has so many downloads and reviews because of the shitload of ads it has (like this one). I don’t think it’s even legal, there’s no mention of copyright of the images, the author, whatsoever.

      • See the developer’s answer below. All wallpapers are designed in house, so you won’t find any of these wallpapers on Google.

In iDBs defense this app has some popularity. However any iDB reader worth their salt also knows this is garbage but reviews like this bring traffic to the site, which in turn should improve our experience. Ad revenue keeps the site here and the traffic that reviews like this bring…That translates into the willingness of developers to offer up their products for review.

A small price to pay for the impartial quality iDB on the most part offers.

EDIT: @Hugo Peters and the following sub comments.

      • Hugo Peters

You have a point there. They still could’ve reviewed an app worth mentioning, though.

      • iosPixel

        Hell yeah.

      • Gorgonphone

this app is for noobs and there are millions of noobs

      • Gurudas G

It may be for noobs but have you tried out the new update? The new UI looks wayyy better than the old one

      • Gorgonphone

Nope and i wont caus im jailbroken lol

      • Gurudas G

and what does being jailbroken have to do with using a wallpaper app?

    • Sean Cua

      I think she’s a new writer.

Edit: Nope she’s not. Should be kicked out for doing this.

      • iosPixel

        Thats a little harsh?

She doesn’t choose the apps to review, plus although not required by most users here, she does present a good guide.

        2 Cents.

      • Gorgonphone

ololoo you are too emotional also

    • Dontwannaknow

Don’t be so serious. S/he might be new writer. If you know that app already, just ignore. I myself also saw it very long time ago and also wonder why they just post it now. Anyway, relax.

    • Mohammed Sahib

As long as I remember! They need to make money, you know? If you aren’t interested, ignore such posts, I sometimes do!.

      • Gorgonphone

yeah i ignore 50% of what is on here

    • This is not a paid review. We rarely do paid review and when we did, they are always clearly labeled as sponsored. Read our disclosure page for more details http://www.idownloadblog.com/disclosure/

The fact that you believe we would sneak paid posts in without making it clear to the readers is borderline insulting.

      • dpacemaker

Don’t you guys typically do a giveaway when it’s a sponsored post. At least that’s what it seems like. Haters gonna hate, you guys rarely if ever do sponsored posts. This isn’t MacWorld.

      • We don’t always do giveaways when we do sponsored posts.

You can see all our giveaways here http://www.idownloadblog.com/tag/giveaway/

You can see all our sponsored posts here http://www.idownloadblog.com/tag/sponsored/

      • Gorgonphone

dude you are too easily insulted..lolo life is heard humans are animals if you are gonna run a public social site like this you have to expect haters just role with it and be strong stop being insulted all he time.. you guys got emotional and banned my last account during one of you silly “feeling insulted” episodes just let it go and be men..lolo

PS this was not meant to insult you just to toughen you up a little .. 😀

  • xD

    The poor mans jailbreak lol.

  • Felicia Gordon

Besides copying your posts from 9to5 Mac, redmondpie etx, which is already cheap, you have started this cheapness.
M off from your nonesense now.

    • Dontwannaknow

If u think iDB does not meet your requirement, you can read other websites. There are many other websites out there. But usually I notice Redmondpie posts article after iDB posted. Or maybe I am wrong.

      • Hugo Peters

        “Anyway, relax.”-You

      • Dontwannaknow

thanks. I am taking rest. And you too. 🙂

    • Felicia. How insulting of accusing us of copying posts from other publications, but I believe you’re missing a big point. We never copy anything from anyone and we always credit the publications we source are news from when applicable. This being said, if iDB doesn’t mean your standards, please feel free to not visit this site again. While I can understand the reader’s frustration from time to time, I feel extremely insulted when people accuse us of doing sponsored posts when it is not true. I feel as insulted when we are wrongly accused of copying other websites.

      • dpacemaker

I love this site, and appreciate when you cite your sources as you should. I appreciate it because it allows me to go there and read it for more detail you may have omitted for certain reasons. As for this post I have yet to see anything similar this morning. As expected when big news happens or like yesterday when Betas come out, of course every Apple site/blog is going to post on it. All I know is that iDB is the first place I go for Tech/Apple News and opinions. Keep up the awesome work.

      • Hugo Peters

Come on man, you can do a free wallpaper search on Google and get the same images as in this PAID app. It’s completely nonsense, and only made to rip people off. The fact that you guys are supporting this app (what I would not have thought) makes me believe that this was sponsored. I’m sorry if I have insulted you.

      • Gorgonphone

“I feel extremely insulted” – dude you are a dude, you feel too much hahahha!!! leave all that feeling stuff for girls like Felicia lol… its your site post what you want and ignore the haters…

      • Felicia Gordon

Sebastien I didn’t mean to offend you guys in anyway. I still can’t convince myself about the ingenuity of this post but since you are so much emphasizing on it, I apologize for my comments.

      • Dani Hayes

It is not that they are accusing you of copying but rather reporting the same things. Even when you do the majority of your staff cites the website.

  • Mohammed Sahib

LOL the iPhone 5 in the pics have the old ‘iPod’ app. Weird.

    • Adedayo Ogunde

It’s a fifth gen iPod not an iPhone 5

      • Mohammed Sahib

I don’t think so. Looks like an iP5 to me. Even the iPod touch has the ‘music’ app not the ‘iPod’ app.

  • Gorgonphone

    perfect for noobs..

  • Gorgonphone

    OMG here come the e-detectives…hahahhaha

  • Pako Jauregui

Girls get insulted too easily and love drama you can tell, enough said. Not very professional to show emotions and make them public it is better to defend yourself by not writing anything at all how unpleasant and unprofessional. I’m out. Microsoft also has over 1.000.000 positive reviews that being said it doesn’t mean they are good at all.

    • Did you just call Sebastien a girl?

    • Dani Hayes

    Hi Guys,

Makers of PYS here. The article comes in time – we’ve just released version 2.0 which features very slick user interface (we have skipped 14 versions internally here before we came up with the current one) and themes (graphics that match your home and lock screen).

For the avoidance of doubt, the content in the app is created by our in-house artists – we are literally working day and night creating the most stylish wallpapers out there. Lots of other apps try to copy the wallpapers that we create, with some of them even published on web sites. Clearly, the efforts we put into this app pay off – it’s one of the most popular iPhone apps out there and it’s getting rave reviews by our users on the newly released version. So check out version 2.0 which has just came out – send us an email if you don’t like it. I’m sure you won’t be dissapointed – there is lot’s of love in the app.

  • Pitchy

Looks like a cool and easy to use idea, but I just refuse to download anything with “Pimp” in the title.

  • Pako Jauregui

Who was this written by…. Lory!

  • Pako Jauregui

Did you just read the question you just ask? That is exactly what I was talking about.

    • Pako, You wrote the following: “Girls get insulted too easily and love drama you can tell, enough said. Not very professional to show emotions and make them public it is better to defend yourself by not writing anything at all…” I hadn’t commented at all prior to that statement. To whom were you referring?

  • Ariel

theres a whole industry of fake followers. its pretty obvious that the same thing has been done in the reviews, if you’d look at the reviews for the app you’ll see what i mean…
