Make sure you check out these apps this weekend

iPhone 5 apps

This was a big week for iOS games and apps. Some old favorites received major updates and some epic console games were given the iOS treatment. There are plenty of reasons to pretend you are too busy to go visit old Aunt Gertrude.

Whether you are looking for fun new photo and video apps, epic fighting games for the fanboy in you, or an app to help you find something to do this weekend, we’ve got a list of apps we think will keep you occupied until the wee hours of Monday morning…

Clipper IconClipper – Video Editor

Do you have a bunch of 20-second clips of your three-year-old daughter dancing to her favorite Yo Gabba Gabba! hits, but you don’t know what to do with them? This video-editing app lets you create montages out of your memories. Select as many clips as you want from your iPhone and let the app do the editing. Each video that you include will be cut into three-second snippets. You can use music from the app, or add your own. You can even add video effects to really make your montage shine. This app is available for $0.99.

Analog Camera IconAnalog Camera

If you are looking for a stripped-down camera app that takes great pictures, but doesn’t bog you down with all the bells and whistles that other camera apps have, then you need to go analog. This app lets you snap photos in rapid succession, see filtered images in real time, and layer effects for fun and exciting images that can be easily shared to various social networking sites. There isn’t a bunch of grids, focus features, or other tech-heavy camera doodads to figure out. The interface is clear and uncluttered, leaving you with a simple and convenient way to take pictures.  This app is available for $0.99.

Calendo IconCalendo – Find Facebook and Meetup events nearby

If you spend a lot of time looking for something to do and not as much time actually doing it, you may need a better event finder. This app uses a specially designed algorithm to find events from Facebook that you might be interested in. By scouring the sea of Facebook events for things your friends are interested in and things nearby, Calendo suggests events that you might want to go to. If it sounds fun, bookmark it. If it sounds lame, skip it. The more you bookmark and skip events the more the app focuses in on events you are likely to attend. This app is available for free.

Mextures IconMextures

So, you’ve got your video montage maker and a minimalist camera app, now all you need is a top-notch photo-editing app that gives you unlimited options for creating stunning pictures. This app is rich with editing features that will let you turn the most mundane piece of cake into a photo good enough for a gallery wall. Add layer upon layer of textures to create Formulas that you can save for future use. Don’t have the creative drive to make your own Formula? That’s O.K., there are more than 40 premade ones that were created by popular iPhoneographers to help you out. This app is available for $0.99.

Worls War Z IconWorld War Z

In 2006, Max Brooks wrote a book about the history of the “zombie wars” that was so realistic that it practically redefined the genre. This year, World War Z will make it to the silver screen and to celebrate what is sure to be the next big zombie movie, Paramount has launched a first-person shooter game based on the story of the zombie wars. This game is much more than just a shoot-em-up, body piling game. There is enough story and plot to keep you interested, while the undead action will have you on the edge of your seat. Whether you are a fan of Max Brooks, Zombies, or first-person shooter games, you are in for a real treat. This game is available for $4.99.

Warhammer Quest IconWarhammer Quest

That’s right all you Warhammer nerds, the epic adventure board game from Games Workshop is now available in all its glory for iOS. Battle against orcs, goblins, and all manner of underworld enemies as you lead a balanced group of fighters through dangerous dungeons. This is the first licensed Warhammer game to launch in the App Store. Players encounter random events, quest through the Warhammer world, and fight against enemies in heroic adventures that will make your palms sweat. Now you can have all of the fun of playing the 1995 board game without having to worry about stepping on one of your lost miniatures in the middle of the night. This game is available for $4.99.

KOTOR IconStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I couldn’t call myself a Star Wars fan if I didn’t include this fantastic addition to the App Store. This BioWare adventure role-playing game made its way into the hearts of fanboys in 2003 and has been ported to so many different platforms it is hard to keep them straight. This week, iOS gamers got a real treat with the launch of KOTOR for the iPad. Now, you can carry your Jedi (or Sith) powers with you wherever you go. This gigantic bad boy takes up a whole lot of download space, so be sure to be on Wi-Fi and have about 3 GB of free space. This game is available for $9.99.
