We knew that the fun wouldn’t last forever, and it looks like the vulnerabilities used for the evasi0n jailbreak will be fixed in an upcoming iOS update. PlanetBeing, one of the founding members of the evad3rs team that brought us the long awaited iOS 6.x untethered jailbreak, reports that Apple has patched one of the five exploits that evasi0n uses to accomplish the jailbreak.

PlanetBeing, known as David Wang among close associates, briefly sat down with Forbes writer Andy Greenberg, and confirmed what everyone knew was inevitable. The evasi0n jailbreak will most likely be patched in iOS 6.1.3.

It is indeed sad, but that’s the way this cat and mouse game between Apple and the hackers behind some of the brilliant jailbreaks, has worked since the very beginning.

While PlanetBeing is still investigating the full scope of the fixes, he seemed pretty confident in Apple’s diligence to stamp out more than just one of the bugs that the exploit uses:

“If one of the vulnerabilities doesn’t work, evasi0n doesn’t work,” he says. “We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we’ve used when 6.1.3 comes out.”

Will iOS 6.1.3 be the nail in the coffin for evasi0n? The verdict is still out for that, but it’s certainly not looking very good. At any rate, we’ve had more than enough time to take advantage of the jailbreak, as Apple has taken its sweet time when it comes to providing a patch. With previous jailbreaks, the turnaround time for a fix has been much shorter.

Our advice? Just enjoy the jailbreak, back up your SHSH blobs in case a downgrade solution becomes available, and remain confident in the abilities of the genius hackers who are responsible for this and future exploits. Oh, and obviously, stay away from iOS 6.1.3 once it is released.

What do you think? Are you surprised it’s taken Apple this long to patch evasi0n?

I’m hearing because this exploit posed only a low level threat to iOS users, Apple was able to take its time closing it. I’m not too surprised.

  • It was only a matter of time. I guess I’ll be on 6.1 for a while 🙂

    • Is it a good idea to update to 6.1.2 right now?

      • Jeff

I always recommend being on the latest jailbreakable firmware.

      • But I am seeing on the Apple message boards, that 6.1.2 has been worse for battery life across-the-board. I’m not sure that going to that is ideal

      • pauleebe

On 6.1.2 JB and have no battery life issues.

      • Joe

I didn’t have any battery life issues prior to 6.1.2, but now it seems that 6.1.2 is even better than what I was experiencing before.

      • yusslayer

yes ..very stable jb at 6.1.2 n long battery life..

      • Look at any Apple message board about any firmware haha. People just like to complain for the sake of complaining.

      • really ? is that what you think ? How much battery life are you getting. Im talking usage ? ..

      • a smit

people claim worse battery life in EVERY single f’ing version

      • Claire

I think the reason everyone moans about their battery draining is the fact that when you upgrade its kinda like having a new phone & you’re just messing around with it alot more often!

      • Kurt

My battery drops fast. It was great (for an iPhone) on 5.1.1

        iPhone 4S here

      • check your usage!! or change xour battery…..

      • i think the same, i did research and decide to stay in 5.1.1 till is posible

      • I upgraded to 6.1.2 and i can confirm that the battery life is rubbish , i wished i had stayed on 6.0.1 but because there is no solution for downgrading on the A5 devices im stuck ;-(

      • sir can i ask something? what is the white circle thing that appear in the screen of iphone that when you tap the icon or swipe it and scroll it. please help i want it to. thanks sir

      • DosXX

        It’s DisplayRecorder

      • yusslayer

dispaly recorder or touchpose+ i think u get touchpose better..colouring touch

      • ok thanks.

      • Did that work-if not try this-Hi Karlo-on your white circle that is appearing on your iPhone, does it have a key in the middle of it? If so it is to do with your media player where you’ve had your ear plugs inlistening to music. If you will double tap your menu button where everything appears that is running in the background-that shows you what you’ve left up & running. You can close them if you are watching your data time so it won’t eat it all up. But scroll to the right until it comes to your music player-without your ear plugs in & you will see a button that is almost a circle with a lock on it-click it and it will unlock what has been locked accidentally. Not sure if that’s your problem, but it sounded like that was it. So I hope I didn’t step on anyone’s toes-was just trying to help and pay it forward as someone helped me when I had the same problem. Thanks!

Hi Jeff; just one question; is it normal to have no shsh 6.1.2 on TinyUmbrella and it shows me that it’s saved on cydia and no shsh 6.1.1 on cydia; with my i4S witch i updated for the 3 last firmwares (6.0; 6.1.1 ; 6.1.2) i’m up to date with all (itunes; TinyUmbrella-6.10.03a; evasion etc…)

      • lukas aspe

        use ishshit:)

      • Yeah absolutely. I’m just a typical example of “Do what I say but don’t do what I do” 🙂

      • I’m not complaining, but iOS 6.1.2 has killed my iPad 2 battery, lasted a lot longer on iOS 6.0.1 :S

      • yusslayer

restore n setup new device not backup..

      • That’s what I did, I did a fresh restore yet my iPad still has bad battery. Should have stayed on 6.0.1

      • Yuss Slayer

I think it didn’t work on iPad .. It many bug on iPad …

  • I’m not surprised about how long it has taken apple to patch the jailbreak. it wouldn’t suprise me if iOS 7 is jailbroken within a few months of it’s release. I’m not sure why I think this, iv’e just got a strange feeling about it.

  • SimonReidy

Damn, now I have to decide whether I should upgrade to 6.1.2 and rejailbreak my 3 iDevices while I have the chance, or whether I should just stick it out on 6.1. Has anyone upgraded from 6.1 to 6.1.2 and jailbroken? and if so is it worth the trouble for a relatively minor update?

    • minor microsoft exchange update only if u have meetings synced…
if u have an exchange account there is ahuge battery impovement..
Oh obviously update your iPhone 4S if ur not on ios 6.1.1, because there is a huge problem with 3G on iPhone 4S on ios 6.1

    • I migrated my iPad to 6.1 from 5.1.1 and from there to 6.1.2, all using evasi0n.

Given that 6.1.2 might be the very last chance we have to be at the latest OS level for a loooong time, it was a no-brainer for me to spend my weekend updating/JB’ing my 3 iDevices (iPhone 4/iPhone 5/iPad 3).

  • FlamingOzone

    But killing is illegal 🙁

  • Boss

I’m still on 6.1.1 is there any point in going to 6.1.2?

    I don’t like iOS 6.1.3

    • me to ツ

    • You mean ios 6.1.3 is out for you guys? It’s not out here? It tells me both of my devices is up to date at 6.1.2. I haven’t done the jailbreak yet. I’ve still been doing all the reading and watching videos on it.

  • Love the iPhone 4 limera1n exploit. Unlimited downgrades.

    • Yeah, but is impossible to stay with iphone 4 forever, will be obsolete soon

      • iDon’tWantToShareMyDetails

Are you sure??? Its great device and the last one with bootrom exploit. To me its golden.

      • I JUST upgraded my 1 and only iphone 4 – i take care of my device and it has served it’s purpose all this time – only reason – niche – got the mini and want it in a retina display so bad that decide to get the phone instead. I only get one device a year – or 2 – but the iphone4 turned out to be so good and i took it out of the otter box yesterday – cleaned up the dust – looks as new as the day i bought it – and it’s been dropped thrown and stepped on with mud – couldn’t have asked – rocks music – and gps with tom tom – that’s the reason i kept it – it’s now my ipod – lol and UNLOCKED – straight talk plan if i want sometime for travel or something – it’s a great device and I agree 100% Getting the Mophie Air for iphone 5 to protect and a harder front screen protector (Thicker anyways)

      • i love iphone 4 to, but when the new generation of iphone will come out, the 4 will be obsolete…

      • Obsolete??! Not for a while mate! I got an iPhone 5 on release day – since it was useless for Mirroring in a vehicle, I have just “downgraded” back to a 64gb 4s and I love it! Sure, side by side the 4s looks dated, but in reality what am I missing? about 5mm extra height on my screen, and 2mm thickness difference…. The 5 looks alike a slicker sleeker phone, but for me they work just the same 🙂 It won’t be obsolete for a while yet! Enjoy it while it’s still cool! 😉

      • leart za jmi

i am not saying that the obsolete is 4s but the 4.
i had a iphone 4 and to be honest, the 4s is 2 time faster than the 4.
now soon will come out the 5s and and obviously the support for iphone 4 will decrease, making him obsolete.

    • It also give unlimited lockscreen code cracks too.

      • SO? so is the iphone 5? until the iOS is fixed!

  • Hopefully there is a restore to 6.1.2 just in case we need to restore and re-jailbreak

    • jose castro

i was wondering the same thing. i don’t know if you can yet.

      • @google-f6b49f08a85bdd4f860e13c6a1c9df81:disqus you can restore if you backed up your system before you did your jailbreak. Just FYI

    • smtp25

you can’t – you can’t downgrade ios yet once they stop signing the old one which they do the same day 6.1.3 comes out

      • leart za jmi

not downgrade, restore the same ios

    • Rick Hart

      yeah!!! restore not downgrade

    • @Rich Hart-you can restore if you backed up your system before you did your jailbreak. Just FYI

  • David J Delgado

That stinks, I will make sure to restore my iPhone the day 6.1.3 comes out, and ride out 6.1.2 jailbroken until a new jailbreak comes out.

  • thats alrighit i dont JB anymore i done the evasi0n one but my ringer buttons have a mind of their own ever since even after a full restore so i highly doubt that i will JB ever again, childhood is over lol iphone it perfect by itself

    • sambuzzlight

yep seems your phone is the only one with its mind of their own

    • you are old…hahahahhah

  • zune

im on 5.1.1 jailbreak on ipad 3 can i update to 6.1.2

    • yes!!! do it now before its too late

    • Yes 6.1.2 can be jailbroken

    • Damani Brown

  • Was really hoping NCDismiss was updated to support 6.1x before I upgraded from 5.1.1. Now I guess I can’t wait.

  • damn i have to get on 6.1.2 now sooouch work

  • Does anybody knows if 6.1.2 fixes the problem wifi connection?

  • Nice article, Jeff. 🙂

  • smtp25

Wait wait !! So you mean evasi0n giving interviews and talks on the exploits used wasn’t a good idea and actually made apples job easier?? I for one am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you

    • Jordan

They are a 400 billion dollar company who hates when people hack their devices, do you really think it would be hard for them to find thr exploits? Nd the timezone bug was obvious, it can be seen right after you finish the jailbreak

      • Damani Brown

Yes. Just think how long it took the Jailbreak team to do it. They are more skilled than Apple. It’s been less than a month. It was iDownloadblogs fault.

      • I’m sorry…but are you genuinely stupid?
How is the jailbreak team “more skilled” then Apple?
Do you not think that Apple already had people investigating ways to patch up what the team did?

      • Damani Brown

They are more skilled than Apple. Apple isn’t a god. Those retarded Apple developers can’t even get maps right. LOL. Why do you think they hire these Jailbreakers? because they aren’t skilled? LOL if they had someone better they wouldn’t need to beg the jailbreakers to work for them. OWNED. Take it up the butt. LOLOLOL. Sorry, bud. HEADSHOT b*tch. You just got OWNED.

      • Damani: “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” — Mark Twain

      • Damani Brown

That was a pretty good quote if I do say so myself. But, luckily I’m not a fool.

      • You keep blaming iDownloadblog. How old ARE you? You must be 14 or something. You must be a trolll, because nobody is stupid enough to really think the iDownloadblog was a big help in Apple’s patching of the exploits. You have to be so naive to even think that.

      • Damani Brown

You sir are retarded if you think that article didn’t help Apple. Bet you barley know how to use a computer yet alone understand coding.

      • Jordan

While you’re insulting other people, u dont realize how easy it would have been to find the exploits? They could just look at the code of evasi0n…

      • why are you feeding a troll ?

    • Damani Brown

We told them. What idiots write how the jailbreak worked. LOL

  • Wow! I jailbroke just in the nick of time. Apple really needs to integrate a lot jailbreak tweaks natively to its OS. That way, we wouldn’t be so keen on jailbreaking.

  • Good news for security-hungry people like me. Another bug closed, iOS is more secure. Thanks, Apple.

    • No, thank the Evad3rs.

    • irlydontknow

Yes, because there are people out there to gain control of your iPhone via USB?

    • Security hungry my ass……Apple needs to integrate more tweaks and usable apps in its iOS ….this then would deter most peeps from jail breaking their devices….

      • What does this statement have to do with what Muhammad said?
How will integrating more tweaks fix the security bugs?

    • Damian W

i am guessing it is Sarcasm?

  • ridonkulous

I hung onto 5.0.1 for a loooong time so I think I can hang onto 6.1.1 for as long as I need to…

  • sambuzzlight

i guess i will stay on 6.1 since ios 7 is around the corner..

  • But look the good side, nobody will update to it

  • I am getting in 6.1.2 right now on my ip5 my ipad will stay on 6.1

    • smtp25

Of course you should .. If you use exchange from it.. Last chance

  • Damani Brown

This blame goes on you guys. Thanks for telling them how the Jailbreak worked. You’ve just ruined it for everyone. They thought it would last until IOS 7. But, you helped speed up the patch. Thanks iDownloadblog for ruining it for everyone. Your excuse for posting was because they have more than one. Well guess what, looks like the patch is fixing ALL of them. So those reserves just got wiped out. Next time DON’T post about how the jailbreak works. I don’t know what you guys were thinking. Who ever wrote that article should be FIRED effective immediately.

    • You don’t think Apple puts their best people on reverse engineering the jailbreak to figure out exactly what holes were exploited?

    • SimonReidy

I don’t think you understand how reverse engineering works. One of Apple’s security specialists would have discovered exactly how the jailbreak works by analysing the code and jailbreak process, hours after it was released. Therefore it made no difference whatsoever for the Evasi0n guys publicly discussing how the jailbreak worked. The hackers that work on jailbreaks and iDownloadblog know this, so to suggest its their fault is ridiculous.

Apple have patched every single jailbreak ever released, whether its been publicly revealed or not, so it’s not like this one was out of Apple’s reach. And they would have discovered ALL the exploits the jailbreak uses in the process, because that’s how the jailbreak works and Apple would be certain to discover this, and patch all the security holes the jailbreak uses.

      • Damani Brown

Do you think anyone cares how the Jailbreak was preformed? Do they not know their audience. It’s very basic material in English class. Half the people on this blog have not a single clue what they were talking about in that article. It ONLY benefited Apple, and possible jailbreakers.

The thing is… LET Apple work for their pay. Don’t tell them how it’s done, let them do the hard work required to solve the problem. That article should have never been posted.

I don’t know why you justify the article. What were they trying to do? teach people how to jailbreak? sadily it didn’t work. But it did aid Apple in the patch. Thanks iDownloadblog.

      • I’m going to echo the words typed by people before me…

You really think someone sat on this web site and hit refresh every few seconds WAITING, HOPING that someone will spill on how the jailbreak was done?

You honestly don’t think someone at Apple was pulling apart the evasi0n App or whatever you call it and see how to undo what it did?

If you really believe that, why wouldn’t it have been fixed when 6.1.1 was released?

      • SimonReidy

      • Damani Brown

Apple is always watching these blogs. If you think they are not, you’re a fool. Where do you think they get all their improvements from? They implement a lot of jailbreak tweaks in these updates. Where else to go to get that information? How about the blogs that post about them all day? They are always watching. I’m sure they were taking it apart? But, do you think reverse engineering is an easy task? It’s not. Why wasn’t it fixed in 6.1.1. Well they didn’t blog about it before 6.1.1.. o_O now 6.1.2 it still wasn’t fixed. Well guess what? It takes time to fix it obviously. Coding isn’t easy. With them KNOWING the problem after the blog. It took a mere week to fix. Imagine if they didn’t have that information from the article? Probably would take them a month 😉 LOL

      • SimonReidy

Do you really think hackers would publicly post how its done if they thought it would help Apple fixing it? They spend months of their life looking for workable exploits so they don’t go handing them out for nothing.

Not to mention this is is the internet. You’re acting as if only iDownloadblog posted how it was done. They simply reposted the story that hit every major tech site out there. Everyone of relevance posted it, including big sites like The Verge and ArsTechnica. So if you’re going to blame iDB you may as well blame half the internet.

This is how it works in the real world – Once an exploit is used, Apple finds what it is, by analysing the code and how its injected, then they develop a software update to to patch it as soon as possible. Whether its 5 exploits that are used in the jailbreak or 1, is irrelevant. The exact process is revealed through analysing the jailbreak process to find the security holes, which I can assure you they are more than capable of doing.

Just to be clear there is no connection whatsoever between the information about the jailbreak process being posted on the net and Apple’s ability to find and patch the exploits being used.

      • Damani Brown

It was iDB’s fault. Take it.

    • Yea…. I wondered why it was necessary to “explain” how the exploit worked!

    • Wow, you’re stupid. Apple would’ve figured it out WITHOUT the stupid article. Do you really think all these hackers are just stupid and reveal how everything was done just for fun? Because they love it when Apple patches their jailbreak? These hackers know how easy it is for Apple to reverse engineer their jailbreak. Seriously, grow a brain. You obviously have no idea how things work in the real world.

      • Damani Brown

You sir, are a compete moron. I bet you were the idiot behind that article. If you didn’t know the jailbreakers thought the jailbreak would last until IOS 7. Meaning they did not think Apple would patch it so quickly. Who do you think aided in that patch. 😉 There’s a reason they want to hire the jailbreakers…

    • JamesR624

Gotta agree here. As soon as I saw the article everywhere about how the jailbreak worked, I screamed, “WHY? WHY WOULD YOU OPENLY REVEAL THIS ONLINE?? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU????”

  • This sucks, probly won’t be able to get an iPhone 5 in time

  • 4p0c4lyps3

I’d rlly like to spew some venomous words at apple, but I won’t. I’ll spare everyone the sentiment. They just piss me off so gd much. Wld they even be aware of these volnurabilities if it were not for evasi0n. Lol, losers!

    • 4p0c4lyps3

Also, if the evasi0n team spoke openly about the exploits employed, then they are some of the most righteous fck’n losers everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

      • Aww, look.
Grandpa is having a cry over not being able to jailbreak his poor iPhone…also learn to speak/type English arsehat!

      • 4p0c4lyps3

Efficient n effective typing. Sorry it’s a concept well beyond your faggot ass. Much love, retard. Kiss, kiss.

  • Kyle Willis

Why would anybody in the jailbreak com want to upgrade to 6.1.3 anyway ? unless there’s major upgrade incentive with built in tweaks Apple are wasting there time,we all know these nuggets just make up bug fixes to entice people

  • Nith Man

is there a way to bavkup my packages before i update to another jailbreakable firmware?

  • You preferring ios 6.1 or 6.1.2?

I prefer iOS 5.1.1 to the buggy, battery draining iOS 6

  • John714

Tinyumbrella needs to update, so that I can save my IOS 6.1.2 SSHH blob

    • you_fook

Just use iSHSHit, it’s been updated for 6.1.2. Download from Cydia, save and email yourself the blobs.

You just made my day. 😀

  • Is it a good idea.

iphone users to update to ios 6.1.2 .. ios 6.1.2 saves your battery ツ

    • SimonOrJ

It fixes the passcode glitch where people can stalk onto contact list without unlocking the iPhone. It is a good idea, therefore.

    • smtp25

why do people say things like this? it doesn’t break the JB and it fixes bugs why would you not – And if what you say is true it improves battery life?

      • I’ve overclocked ios 6.1.2. and dispose of the app is not in use

      • batter my iphone 4s battery very save on ios6.1.2.
before use ios 6.1.2. i running ios 6.1 and 6.1.1 battery drai..
now ios 6.1.2 my battery 1% drop 13minit for 1%.. so good ツ

    • yup

  • Don’t worry iPhone users….whatever apple does……upgrade to whatever firmware….one can most of the time jailbreak their iPhones and even hacktivate them using a custom built firmware from Sn0wbreeze (using the ifaith option.)
So…..the message is start saving your shsh blobs !!! NOW !!!

    • leart za jmi

      I was thinking the same

  • now my iphone 4s running ios 6.1.2.. ios 6.1.2 is battery life..

how do you overclock with ifile ?

      • overclock mobileterminal ツ.

        ifile not sure

  • I got a question – Since 4.0 I’ve been an SHSH BLobbin Saver – only a few times did they come in handy and ulternatively it was my own unfamiliarity with the jailbreak and the newness of it all anyways that an error could occur. But as it’s nearly fool proof now in the proper fw release window – how do/are SHSH BLobs going to help, and why do you have to pull them off a device while APPLE is still signing them ? Additionally, is there going to be a legit way to downgrade with a tweaked ios image I would get it using like ifaith or whatever tool does that. Either way, it seems irrelevant that they’ll ever be of use.

    • “bolbs” are no longer useful they are from the old school of jailbreaking.

  • Jonathan

Im angry with Apple not letting you choose which version to use on your phone!!!! Does anybody know if it is possible to do a “erase all content and settings” on an evaded (jailbroken) iPhone 5 ?(6.1.2) or to do a full restore to the same version (6.1.2) once 6.1.3 comes out ?
Asking for future reasons, like what’ll happen if I need to erase everything and start over but won’t want to lose the jailbreak.

I have an iPod Touch 5, and Cydia saved a bunch of SHSH (including 6.1, which is what I currently have) I open TinyUmbrella, turn off “save all available SHSH” and “request from Cydia” I save the SHSH, but Apple stopped signing it (uh-oh!) So I tried to request it from Cydia, but it won’t work! Can anybody help me?
