Apple’s iPhone event ended more than 2 hours ago, but we’re still trying to sift through the gobs of information regarding the new handset and its features. And we figured you were too.

So we went ahead and did all of the leg work for you, and uncovered just about everything there is to know about the new iPhone hardware. And we’ve put it in a single, easy-to-read list.

Here’s the iPhone 5 by the numbers…

Size

Though it looks a bit like its predecessor, the iPhone 5 is a whole different handset. Here are its measurements:

  • Height – 4.87 inches (123.8 mm)
  • Width – 2.31 inches (58.6 mm)
  • Depth – 0.30 inch (7.6 mm)
  • Weight – 3.85 ounces (112 grams)

Wireless

The iPhone 5 supports GSM, CDMA, LTE and a wide range of other wireless technologies. And here they are:

  • GSM model A1428*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 4 and 17)
  • CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)
  • GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
  • 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz and 5GHz)
  • Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology

Display

One of the first things you’ll notice on the iPhone 5 is its larger display.

  • Retina display
  • 4-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
  • 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
  • 800:1 contrast ratio (typical)
  • 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)

Cameras

The iPhone 5’s iSight still uses an 8MP sensor, but the system has been upgraded, as has the FaceTime camera:

  • 8-megapixel iSight camera
  • 1080p HD video recording at up to 30 frames per second with audio
  • FaceTime HD camera takes 1.2MP photos and 720p HD video

Battery

Despite the fact that it has a larger display and LTE, Apple says the iPhone 5 still has great battery life:

  • Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
  • Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
  • Standby time: Up to 225 hours
  • Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
  • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

Price

As usual, the iPhone 5 comes in both black and white, as well as three different storage options. And the price points are the same as well (remember, these prices are subsidized and require at least a two-year carrier contract):

  • 16GB iPhone 5 is $199
  • 32GB iPhone 5 is $299
  • 64GB iPhone 5 is$399
  • 16GB iPhone 4S is $99
  • 8GB iPhone 4 is free

If you’re wondering how the iPhone 5 compares to the previous models, we’ve got a post for that too. The new handset will be available for preorder on September 14, and will start shipping on the 21st.

  • Kok Hean

Why do people complain about the small upgrades? Isn’t that what Apple does for most of their products?

    • Thats what any company does . A new model of a car will still be a car and not an aeroplane

      • Emre SUMENGEN

Let’s just face it… Apple didn’t meet expectations this time… I’m sad to say this, but let’s get the truth out.

Whether it’s the growing demand and hype around Apple products, or just Apple getting lazy doesn’t matter… They did not nail it this time.

(I was really not excited during the keynote… That’s the second time for me, for an iPhone keynote!)

      • Miketyler

Well then I guess just pack your bags and move on… Its a phone man what do you want it to do? drive your car, Put the spoon in your mouth

      • fuckyou

Nope, i wanted 2mm of width to go along with the useless 9mm stretch.

      • That’s what SHE said!

      • Emre SUMENGEN

So is that the kind of words you understand???

        His was a legitimate wish… Yours is a dumb-*ss f*ck-mouth comment…

      • OMG bro I was making a funny. Don’t lose your sense of humor over it. πŸ™

      • WTH that was objectively funny. A scientist could examine that in the lab and the results would be crystal clear.

Measures of width and length and referencing inadequate size followed by that’s what she said = funny

I mean its not even debatable. If your not gonna use that’s what she said there then why even keep those words in the English language. Sheesh!

      • Emre SUMENGEN

Nope… I’m still onboard… Are you offended with people that speak how they feel? Or should people only talk if they are praising a product that you like?

        Respect a little…

      • Miketyler

Praising a product I like of course what kind of question is that

      • Emre SUMENGEN

        That’s not a question! WOW…

        Don’t read bad comments then…

      • Hyr3m

Oh because they met expectations with the 4S ? How ’bout the 3GS ? Hell even the 3GS to 4 transition was minor except for the “case”…

      • Emre SUMENGEN

3GS to 4 transition was minor?

OMG… 3 words: display, optics, speed… There was a big difference on these topics.

Yes, 4S was a little lower than that. And, people feel safe that Apple will do a major upgrade, then the next year there would be a minor/in-hood upgrade, then the next year would come a revolutionary new device.

      • Hyr3m

Wait… so you’re saying this iPhone 5 is revolutionary ?

Check out the specs of these 3 phones side by side.(3GS,4 & 4S)
Speed-wise and camera-wise the 4 to 4s was a bigger change: +400MHz vs +1GHz, +2megapixels vs +3megapixels. +retina is significant but altogether it averages down to about the same upgrade scale; They always to as small an upgrade as they possibly can.

I don’t know how anyone could have high expectations and wait for a “revolutionary new device” when there’s no way on earth it’s going to happen coming from crApple.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

What the hell are you trying to do here?

If you don’t like Apple, or Apple products, why on earth are you on an iDevice blog?

        TROLL!

      • Hyr3m

I like the jailbroken 4th generation iPod touch that I got for free. Just because I don’t buy religious-like BS doesn’t mean I’m a troll…
The iPhone 5 is far from revolutionary. Apple uses meaningless terms like this so we can’t call it false advertising. You can’t bring it back and say “it’s not revolutionary like you said it was, I want my money back”.
Apple’s success is 80% marketing, 10% luck, 5% self-made leader that loosers want to identify to and 5% having more-or-less acceptable products to back the rest up.
They borrowed a few old recipes, called them their own and mixed them up together. Then they had the balls to go out and describe their crap with meaningless superlatives and people believed it like they believe most of the BS they’re fed every day by the media corporations and governments all over the world. They’re like a really good used cars salesman that you could sell you an old used lada for more than the price of a brand new prius.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

So you’re basically saying that millions of people are idiots and are buying Apple products just because of their marketing… Is that right?

And, you are much more clever than those millions, I assume.

It’s all fine with me, if you want to play the game like that. There’s only one thing I have to tell: WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HERE?

You know, we are idiots that buy Apple devices no matter how bad they are, just like a religion. So, stop wasting your valuable time and bright brain cells here with us, go buy and use whatever you think is not marketing but pure bliss…

Your comments are not creative. You’re definitely not here to point out issues or things you like and/or dislike, because obviously you don’t like anything about this product. This makes you a troll, as you’re still constantly pushing the comments with a flaming tongue. That is basically the definition of a TROLL!

PS: No salesman could sell me an old Lada for more than a price of a brand new Prius. If that’s what you believe, or what you’ve experienced, then I’m sorry for you. It’s not my fault there!

      • Hyr3m

To what does apple owe it’s success then ?
You’re not giving any argument so if there’s a troll here it’s you…
I suggest you hit the first result of the google search “ted apple success” (without quotes). It’s a TED talk by Simon Sinek and it’s very interesting.
There are billions of people on earth and most of them are no Einsteins if you see what I mean… I don’t see what’s wrong with a statement like “millions of people are idiots”.
[troll mode ON] BTW I’m pretty sure you would buy a Lada for more than a Prius if Apple was selling it… they would say it’s “revolutionary” and people like you would jizz in their pants and stop thinking by themselves.[troll mode OFF]
I have a potty mouth and I don’t give a shit about respecting religiously indoctrinated people’s point of view but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

        Wow man… You’re incredible..

All those people are also customers for other companies as well, you know that, right?

And, seeing how you believe “others” are dumb and you are mostly superior so that you can clearly see every trick, I really see no value in trying to reason with you.

You really have a ** mouth, but whether you think it’s “religiosly indoctrinated” or not, you’d learn to respect other’s ideas, views and beliefs. And, it really means you’re wrong to me… Even though the things you say MAY be right, YOU ARE WRONG, as a person.

And finally, about the Lada, I’m barely keeping myself… Waiting for the iLada 44… Happy? Now, could you please leave this incompetent and under-intelligent crowd of Apple Fans alone?

    • techreviews1

The only reason people are complaining is because this update should have been a complete redesign / upgrade (based on how Apple have done things in the past with iPhone); however the only things that have really changed are the insides (slightly), just like what happened with the 4S last year.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

And, I’m angry that I won’t be able to use my existing cables and I have a few…

The converter is just another joke, with it’s size and price…

Also, wtf was wrong with the sim card? just a few centimeter-squares… Was that worth to force people change their sim cards, all over again? Duh! Not good, not good…

      • pegger1

When have they done a bigger redesign than this? They completely changed the size of the screen, they’ve never done that before.

The problem is the rumour mill creates such a stir and raises people expectations to something unrealistic.

      • techreviews1

Um… from the 2G to the 3G and the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Both of these upgrades involved internal and external upgrades. I’d constitute that as a bigger redesign than the 4S to the 5 (seen as though the design is pretty much identical apart from being slightly longer and featuring a two-tone back…

      • pegger1

So you want them to redesign the shape of the phone just for the sake of redesigning. And you consider increasing the screen from 3.5″ to 4″ as insignificant in comparison. It’s also thinner and lighter. The back is now aluminum instead of all glass.
If that’s not a redesign I don’t know what is.
The processor is twice as fast as the previous, they’ve never made that kind of jump.

        You’re expecting way too much.

      • goofygreek

who gives a crap about the back, chances are people are just going to have a case covering it. iphone 4, single core, iphone 4s, dual core. Im not a genius, but i think thats a pretty big jump.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

Dual cores are good for things… Better instruction sets and dual/quad cores are good. Higher clock speeds are also good. GPU is good, more GPU cores are better…

So, it’s really not a single parameter to decide if it’s going to make a big change or not.

As far as I can see with the videos, the speed/performance difference from 4S-to-5 is more than 4-to-4S..

  • Dmonney2907

Can you use the iphone 5 for t-mobile when the iphone 5 comes out and what will be the Internet Speed will be?

    • you can buy it unlocked

    • Dmonney2907

What are would be the Internet Speed be 3g or 4g?when you get it unlock?

      • goofygreek

if tmobile’s 3g/4g radio signals are listed in the supported signals that the iphone picks up, then it will support 3g/4g. If they are not listed, then no support.

      • Emre SUMENGEN

        3G is already supported.

For LTE, goofygreek is right.. You’ll have to check what frequencies T-Mobile uses vs. your iPhone’s support documenatation (prefer the website).

  • fuckyou

Guess ill keep my iphone 4s for another year and wait for worth while upgrades.

    • Hyr3m

There’s no such thing as a “worthwhile” upgrade from crapple. They think of people are milk-sheep so they’ll always try to change as little as possible to still be able to claim it’s “all new”. To me this is false advertising and they should be punished for it (legally or by consumers).

      • Apple don’t force you to buy their products. WTF is fair advertising. Don’t cry here . Go and get a phone by a company who claims their phone is not best but is just good ( fair advertising ) . You will not get a phone in your whole life

  • Mahjikk

I’m just sad that this phone was released in it’s entirety like 3 months ago. No surprises. That’s what made Apple events so fun.

  • iPhone 6 in 2013 needs to leapfrog. They can’t just keep refining and tweaking with the competition they’re facing.

    • GazaIan

      You mean iPhone 5S.

    • Hyr3m

You wish πŸ™‚ How much do you bet it’ll still have a crappy 8mp camera, no NFC, stupid-ass bought-off siri, no micro sd, it’ll still use itunes etc…

      • techreviews1

Why would they introduce a micro sd slot? A 16gb iPhone with a micro sd slot essentially kills off all of the other models (32gb / 64gb) because you can buy a micro sd card for a lot less than the increase in price between 16gb, 32gb and 64gb iPhones. This would significantly decrease Apple’s profits. Use your brain…

      • Hyr3m

Because that would be a leap in the right direction… which means they’ll never do it… which was exactly my point (and yours, kinda) πŸ™‚

      • GazaIan

        64+64 == 16+64. That is all.

  • Andy

does anyone know how many iphones can usually be preordered at a time, if you have two lines that can be upgraded on AT&T?

  • maurid

Yeah, iPhone 4S’s also had a “greatly improved battery life”.

  • VATekMan

You know why they had to call this the iPhone 5, even though it was such a small upgrade, because they were worried what calling it the iPhone 4SS would look like… Since that is basically what this is… πŸ™‚

Come on, you know they can still call everyone back and say… wait, just one more thing….

    • rohta

Sorry man, only Steve did this “one more thing”. It was his trademark on all keynotes.

    • My thoughts exactly, it really shows how the iphone takes after the blackberry phones.. Lack of innovations will eventually make them obsolete. It’s really disappointing how come it took them almost 2 years to build this kind of (MINOR UPGRADED) phone. No innovations whatsoever. Nokia has outdone them w/ innovations. I find the iphone 5 mediocre judging by today’s standards. Sad.

      • Hyr3m

I completely agree with you, but you have to admit that blackberries nowadays are not as crappy as iPhones (except for third party apps)…

      • Emre SUMENGEN

Your motto: If it’s not an iPhone, I’ll say I LOVE it!

      • Hyr3m

Don’t get me wrong, Blackberries are crappy; just not as crappy as iPhones.

    • Emre SUMENGEN

I genuinely felt that way, right after the keynote… Really…

But then, I thought, what could they have done with the 4/4S design, that people would say “wow, it’s a new device, not an iteration”?

Nothing really… Not at this point.

I remember the raindrop designs all over the place, before 4S launch… Oh my god, I’d say, if for example that was the design of the iPhone 5. THAT would make me switch away from the iPhone.

Macbooks are looking very similar for years, but they have evolved very much inside… Does it make them legacy? Does that make a macbook an old laptop? No, not really…

Base point is, if the design is already good enough, it might be better to stick with it, rather than change it drastically just to make a change…

By the way, I’d still be happy if the device looked just the same. I LOVE the design of iPhone 4/4S… It’s still the best design available in the market, for me.

  • rohta

Almost all new features were already announced by media, before this event.
I guess the only “surprise” is that iPhone 5 doesn’t have NFC, as was speculated…

  • So very happy with this upgrade. I loved the iPhone 4 form factor. The new iPhone 5 screen increase while maintaining the form factor is ideal. Just a bit bigger and thinner and battery lasts longer. Gotta love it a lot.

All the internal changes, new features, are a big big change.

Didn’t anyone tell you that beauty is skin deep and the real beauty is on the inside?

Well, you got both here!! πŸ™‚

  • sasan akbari

Apple’s products are so expensive out of the USA. πŸ™
