iPhone 5 renders look quite believable

By , Jun 13, 2012

For a company known for its secrecy regarding unannounced products, there sure seems to be a lot of information floating around about Apple’s next smartphone. We’ve seen schematics, back covers, and now this.

A set of pictures surfaced on the web this morning have gotten a lot of folks buzzing with excitement. Relax, these are just renders, but quite believable. The images depict a device which matches up with the recently leaked next-generation iPhone parts

UPDATE: this story has been updated to reflect that these images are just clever 3D renderings and do not represent the allegedly fully-assembled iPhone 5. In case you were wondering, these absolutely gorgeous concept renders are created in Rhinoceros 3D and credited to Flickr user Martin uit Utrecht.

MacOtakara points to the photos, which were originally published on a Chinese iPhone blog.

iPhone Chinese Web post several photos of new iphone, which seems to be fully assembled. New iPhone, called as iPhone 5, considered to has been leaked as parts by parts.

While this iPhone photo shows live iOS running, we don’t have idea if this photos are computer generated rendering or composited by Photoshop. iPhone Chinese Web tells that they are not confirmed it is true or fake.

The handset features the rumored elongated 4-inch display, smaller dock connector, and centralized FaceTime camera, above the earpiece. It also sports a similar back cover to the one that’s popped up in several recent reports.

That being said, we’re not at all convinced that these images are legitimate. In this day in age of photoshop and other trickery, there are a thousand ways these photos could be faked.

But, we’d be remiss if they turned out to be something and we didn’t mention them. After all, a lot of folks thought that initial iPhone 4 photos were fake until Gizmodo went hands on.

If nothing else, these images make for a nice concept of what the new iPhone could look like should all of the current information materialize.

What do you think?

no way! this looks ugly! this is definitely not the new iPhone (6th gen)

    • http://jtarrio.tumblr.com jtarrio

Ha! That’s *exactly* what everyone said about the iPhone 4 when it leaked! :P

    • http://www.facebook.com/luisreyespr Luis

I remembered hearing this exact comment 2 years ago from different people; when the iPhone 4 was leaked. They even said cheap chinese copy. So I’ll hold my opinions until I touch it.

    • M_AlO

Maybe not, but I think it looks good.

  • http://twitter.com/jc_ru ilya kazakov

    yeah, looks pretty scary

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Omar-Chaves/100001793380349 Omar Chaves

    maybe !!!!!!

those would be some out of the ordinary Photoshop skills

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2JFDZXSTUH2HWGIM6NSZX66KWA Kurt

there are finger prints, smudges, and scratches. only thing that looks fake is that table.

man that is one ugly phone. it looks like its for the swat team all in black. why the need for camouflage? hold on, let me puke

  • Imran Mitha

Don’t think apple will make something that bad, they need to get back into the competition with samsung and they’re gonna have to do better…that being said, this cannot be the next iPhone

  • http://djterm.de/ Robo Term

    fake images increase the expected.
and in fall they all gonna cry out…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000751549076 Dávid Cselovszki

it won’t be the new iPhone. Apple has never leaked a photo of the whole iPhone bedore the announcement of it.(as far as i know)

    • http://jtarrio.tumblr.com jtarrio

Who says it was Apple who leaked it? I remind you that’s what everyone was saying when the iPhone 4 leaked: this can’t be it…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1060000726 Omer Climor

    This doesn’t look like Apple…

  • http://twitter.com/Reelin101 Aaron Magnus

    Trollololololo

  • http://www.facebook.com/allen.henry Allen Henry

It has to be fake. Two reasons, it’s running a version of iOS that presumably hasnt been released yet, even to those who assemble the phone. and secondly, the status bar shows that it’s connected to the AT&T network, hard to do if you’re in China.

    • http://jtarrio.tumblr.com jtarrio

Look at the Maps icon. That’s not iOS 6. Which makes it even more suspicious… The new iPhone could not possibly run iOS 5… I think.

    • Pukka12

Lol this is definitely a rendering. What kind of table is made from Popsicle sticks? Either way I do believe this is probably what the new iPhone will look like and I actually think it looks awesome

    • http://twitter.com/ReyATX Christopher Garcia

iOS 6 beta is available to Devs. However I was thinking the same thing! If you are in China how the F are you going to get AT&T service? Good eye sir!

Looks pretty much like a Blackberry 10 to me :-?

  • http://twitter.com/76erXL Tweezy HD ツ 

I’m pretty sure, thats the iPhone 4S with a custom cover.

    • http://twitter.com/iPhoneHrvatska iPhone Hrvatska

Can be fake, but it’s not the iPhone 4S, look at the dock

  • http://twitter.com/ValentCheung Valent Cheung

That’s not made with Photoshop, look at the upper and lower parts, they are stickers.

  • http://adam.hbang.ws/ Adam D

It couldn’t possibly be called the iPhone 5, considering the current iPad’s name doesn’t include the generation.

    Ad@m

  • Richard Nagy

It is. Nice 3D render. :) (The wood pieces are way too small for that size)

    • http://www.facebook.com/zeboulon Sebastian Ströbeck

Yeah, must be. Otherwise they would be 1cm wide.

    • pegger1

How do you know what size the wood pieces are supposed to be?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000112990434 Soroush Bi

I say if apple already had a perfect iPhone like this, they would just announce it at the last WWDC (or what ever). I’m really disappointed that they didn’t introduce any new iphone :|

    • pegger1

They announce a couple weeks before release. Which isn’t yet. iOS6 is still in beta, they’d want to iron out the bugs in that before they release it with the next iPhone.

  • Wael Abdo

i think that the source that took the pics had enough freedom to pose the phone at will and photo it, this is similar to the gizmodo issue, but back then gizmodo had the real device and gave a full report regarding hardware software specs, so i’ll assume this is a fake due to not enough details while it can be easily said if available.

    • pegger1

That’s exactly what I was thinking. They have the device and they take these lame angle shots. And they have not just one device but 2

  • http://profiles.google.com/avi1695 Yash Sharma

I for one think it is fake.
If you look carefully at the Calendar App, you’ll see it says “7th, Monday”. June 7th was not a monday & unless this photograph was taken last month(highly unlikely), then it is positively a fake.

  • http://profiles.google.com/avi1695 Yash Sharma

If it was taken last month, why is the picture being released now?

  • http://twitter.com/pod18g pod18g

    No

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1145407698 Oliveira Andre

    it looks very good!!

  • Loopthree

Real or not, considering all of the photos that have surfaced, I bet this is exactly what the new iPhone looks like when it’s released.

  • http://twitter.com/iSaveBitches Bram

Looks like a 3D render to me..

  • http://www.gadgetsteria.com The Gadgeteur

So easy to spot that this is fake. The “i” and “e” of iPhone seemingly disappear behind a simple shadow that in real life, wouldn’t completely obscure the lettering. Also, the two dark shadowy streaks that are supposedly shadows are way to matte considering there would be some gloss on the back of the device, even if it too were matte material.

The edges of the display around the outer perimeter and earpiece cutout look really uneven, almost as if this mockup were made of cardboard, and then photoshopped an iphone display on top of it.

  • Patrick Brusell

i think this is one Asian rip. seen a few in my days :-)

  • http://twitter.com/BenHoenes Ben Hoenes

Seems like it could be somewhere close to the actual iPhone 5.

But the top and bottom gloss parts on the back just conflict with that nice black aluminium finish, and a someone already pointed out, the camera and flash section looks like a sticker.

  • http://twitter.com/chin2793 Darshan Patel

Headphone jack on the bottom seems inconvenient…….

    • http://www.galaxytabs.com Kyle Dornblaser

I always thought that too, but it is how most of the other companies are moving. The logic is you put your phone in your pocket upside down.

    • pegger1

Heaphone jack on the bottom is the best place for it. I’ve been wanting that for a while. Using the phone with the headphones out the top, the cord hands with an akward bend. Out the bottom the cord hands more naturally.

  • Kenaan20

    Stop these
    Iphone5 .. Iphone5
Stop these myths in the latter we get a naive ios6

  • http://twitter.com/intelxtreme Khan

    lol very funny

  • http://twitter.com/workaholocaust Michael

Everyone who is saying “no” loves the iPhone 4 which was called a lot of names, until it was released. It will be okay guys. Accept it, the next iPhone is going to look like this. You’ll see ;) I’m not touching it though. iPhone 4 & 4S look better than this.

  • http://twitter.com/Jasonzai95 jason

    rumors cannot believe :)

  • http://twitter.com/Mrozzy123 Ozzy h4xker

Apple wont make this.. Apple likes to keep the apple logo on the back nice and bold & not plain black.

  • http://www.geekfori.com/ Geekfori

I will stick with my iPhone 4 before upgrading to that thing.

  • http://twitter.com/Dongiuj DonGiuj

Ok, I was pretty negative about the next iPhone design but I think this looks kind of ok ish. The metal and antenna being black kind of suits it.
    Hmmm

  • Roni Isometsä

I think it’s ugly. The next iPhone (iPhone 5) must be maybe bigger BUT white or black. Sides must be “steal”… AND same design but bigger.. max 4inch screen :D

  • Ryan Hicks

Everyone needs to stop complaining about how this thing looks. If it’s real, it’s obviously an early prototype that WILL be updated before released. Doesn’t anyone remember when Gizmodo got hold of the iPhone 4 prototype? It didn’t exactly look pristine.

  • http://twitter.com/MCaudebec Maxim∑

What horrible camera angles for this photo…. No aerial shot so I don’t believe it

  • http://www.facebook.com/pubquiz Dave Small

There are too many photoshop geometric leaks in grey across the pictures when you zoom right in to pixel level. The back plate has evidence of photoshop smear/smudge tools. The screen discplay does not quite fit the shape AND the silent button is offline with the angle of the phone. Add to that that the volume down button is closer to the back plate that the volume up button, this is clearly the work of someone with too much time on their hands.

  • jackjohnbrown

They’re renders, as it says at the beginning of the linked article: “While the original report was duped by the pictures, they originally stem from a Flickr user, who explained they were modeled in Rhinoceros 3D and are an authentic looking forgery.” They also include a link to the Flickr gallery, where he talks about fooling Gizmodo.

  • http://twitter.com/ArmenMomejian Armen Momejian

    It’s cute hahaha :p

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000036257084 Umut Saglam

It’s ok for a unfinished product… I am sure that the final version of this will look slightly different and so be ‘perfect’ like the previous apple iPhones.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chai.j.lee Chai Julius Lee

    It is! It looks sickkk.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674643598 Jul Lagz

the dock connector looks odd to me!

  • http://twitter.com/danielsolfa Daniel Solfa

The new iPhone can look like SHREK…but IM SURE its going to sell LIKE WATER!!This is the apple power!

  • http://twitter.com/iRawk4God Thomas C. Gehman

    Meh.

  • http://twitter.com/Chindavon Chindavon

Too many seams you can see.  Apple has better designers that that.  And the two-shade look makes it look like a plastic android phone.  FAKE FAKE FAKE.

  • http://twitter.com/brains530 Brains Alesci

I think that looks awesome! How is everyone saying its ugly?

  • kumar714

they were able to get not one but two? lol this gotta be fake

  • http://twitter.com/Asad_1nfam0us ᗩsad ᔕhahab (Wild ᗩ)

It looks good but its the same design as 4 and 4S..
I, personally, don’t think Apple would release the next iPhone matching the previous two in design.. I’m basing that conclusion on 3G, 3GS and then 4.

  • http://twitter.com/derekuro Derek Lam.WJ.

the only thing i dont like is the dock… i’m lazy lol. i dont wanna keep changing plugs so i can charge my ipod/ipad and my iphone .
