‘Hands-Free Control’ Takes Siri to the Next Level

By , Jan 21, 2012

The potential is startling. Once you play with Hands-Free Control in a true Siri environment on the iPhone 4S, it really hits you how much potential jailbreaking adds to Siri. Truly, the sky’s the limit here as far as voice recognition and the like are concerned.

Imagine laying in bed with your iPhone half-way across the room. Problem: You forgot to set the alarm. Actually, no problem at all. With Hands-Free Control, Siri is always at your beckoning call…

We’ve previously covered Hands-Free control, but that was prior to the iPhone 4S jailbreak, and hence, prior to it tightly integrating with Apple’s personal assistant. It’s much better now than it was then, and our imaginations are running wild with the possibilities.

I know some people will be mostly concerned with battery life, but the developer of Hands-Free Control says it’s always listening in low-power consumption mode. For whatever it’s worth, I didn’t notice any outlandish battery usage in my hands-on time with the tweak, but your mileage may vary.

If you want to give it a shot, and you have a jailbroken iPhone 4S, head over to Cydia and download it for $2.99. It also works with Spire, and Voice Control, but it’s certainly not as good as a native Siri on the 4S.

Check out the video, and let us know what you think.

  • so when is that siri to iphone 4 port coming aye 😉

  • anyone having problems with the locations service?

    • Yes i do, but was there before hands free, it came with assistant extensions.
What is the date today siri?

I would like to know if anyone has had any problems once “Spire” has been installed? I really would like to know how I could get my apps to stop crashing?

  • This is pretty awesome. I am just waiting for some other add-on’s that we can use with Siri, In Australia we are still waiting on location services for Siri, so its only text, calls and then random questions. When we can start using it more for daily tasks this looks like it could be a game changer, I can actually see apple using this.

Now all we need is a GlaDOS voice option and we’ll be set for world domination

  • Really great video thanks for it, I buy it now 😀

  • Woohoo!! I now respond to text messages (and have Siri read me my text messages) when I’m in the shower without having to grab my phone and risk wetting it.

All we need is a SBSetting toggle so that we can turn it off when not needed.

so now anyone can control your iphone….imagine everyone walking around and yelling siri, siri; especially in a circle of friends. Another “just for the heck of it, but not for everyday use.”

  • I can’t use it! Every time I get in the car it will be audio through my cars Bluetooth.

  • i am having a few issues with this tweak that i have started to like.
    1. no keyboard sounds
    2. some apps are muted like tweetbot

    anyone experience this issues???

    • Yeah, I had this problem too. But I did also download it from another repo for free to try it out and the version was only 2.1-2. I’m assuming that had something to do with it.

    • i got the same issues: no textmessage sound, no email sound etc.

I’ve been having the same issue in apps like Tweetbot and Downcast. Also the side volume buttons will not change the ring volume if I am on the homescreen. They will only adjust the speaker volume. For now I have the app installed but the service off. That took care of the problem. Hopefully an update will address these issues.

  • “it’s always listening in low-power consumption mode”
Thats the biggest BS ive heard, it makes my iphones battery run down 10x faster

    • Anonymous

10x? Second biggest bullshit I’ve heard. I’ve done a test and it only drops 3% more an hour.

      • bull i leave my phone on during school it goes from 100% to 13% or 8% so test again

  • iamse7en

lol, as if my my 4S didn’t already have poor battery life…

It works for me one or two times, but then stops working until I turn it off and back on again. It’s really frustrating, because when it works it works so well.

Can anyone help me? Whenever I install it, my phone doesn’t vibrate for anything. I can go into “Sounds” in the settings app and set a vibration pattern and it will do it but for a phone call or a text message it doesn’t vibrate. Anyone find a fix? or have this problem?

  • Diego Insausti

Some sounds are affected after installing this package. In my particular case, new mail, sent mail and a few others do not play. After removing this package, they start working correctly. Hopefully a patch will be released soon.

  • Stay Frosty

Promising but buggy. Crashes the mail app and it stops functioning after some use. Experienced the same issues on the iPhone and iPad. Needs more work then it’ll be awesome.

  • Neat but at $2.99 IDK!

  • After recent update via Cydia the issue with sound for email, SMS, and other is fixed. I love it. Great job !!!

  • can this tweak installed on ipad 2 ?

  • can anyone help? i turned on the response, and then turned it off, now siri has no sound, only when hands free is turned on, and i dont want it anymore. ive tried unistalling, repringing, rebooting, leaving it on when unintalling, and every thing else i could think of, i emailed the developer but hes not responding.

  • JUST..bought it..& I <3 it..i think this is an AWESOME Tweak!!!! Def..one in my top 5 of Siri tweaks.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask my questions, but people who, as I did use this tweak may know a solution for my problems too.
My problems are these: I have successfully had siriport dot ru working, until it stopped answering 11 days ago. The servers are up, so there must be something else wrong.
Uninstalled it and followed the free way to get it with a different certificate via the tutorial on how to get Siri via Spire from the Cydiablog.
This one is, so far, unresponsive as well.
My question: is it at this time at all possible to have Siri for free via one of the two methods I described or should I just forget it?
Doing it the way as described in the tutorial in the main article above goes beyond my limited capabilities.
Any usefull advice is VERY welcome!

  • If there was an option to only have this on when i4s is plugged into a power source then this would be an instant buy. It would be nice to not have to touch the phone in the car or when in bed.
