Comex, Father of JailbreakMe, Has Been Hired by Apple

It was only a matter of time. 19-year-old Nicholas Allegra, better known as infamous iOS hacker Comex, has announced that he has accepted a job with Apple in Cupertino.

Comex has been responsible for many famous jailbreaks, most notably his web based tool called JailbreakMe. He is a well respected member of the jailbreak community, and we wish him the best with his future endeavors at Apple.

Comex announced the news on his Twitter account moments ago, and he seems to be receiving mostly positive responses from his followers. Other famous jailbreak developers, like MuscleNerd, have congratulated him on his new job.

Apple has been known to hire talent from the jailbreak community, with the Cupertino company most recently hiring developer Peter Hajas — as we uncovered first — for his work on a system of notifications for iOS called MobileNotifier. Peter is assumedly now working on improving iOS notifications in Cupertino.

It’s a bittersweet thing for the jailbreak community to lose Comex. In one way, we’re happy that he’s been given such a wonderful opportunity to showcase his talents and further his career. On the other, we’re sad to see such an invaluable jailbreak hacker go.

We don’t know what Comex will be specifically working on at Apple, but we can only assume that he will be assigned to fixing security holes in iOS. It’s funny to think that he will help patch the vulnerabilities he exploited. Everything comes around, I guess.

    This is terrible news for the jailbreak scene. For one thing, comex will most likely find and patch any future exploits before the public ever even sees the firmware…. another thing is that even if he doesnt patch them, he wont be able to tell us about them…. This is the beginning of the end for jailbreaking…

    Hey Jeff, android doesnt suck, actually it is much better than IOs, have youever tried android? it is awesome but I am with Iphone because I like I can jailbreak it. Probably wil buy a Galaxy S2 depending on how Iphone 5 looks like.

    And good for Comex but bad for us. Apple is killing jaibreak community while doing these strategic movements

      My mom has an g2x and even she wished she had an iPhone. From the constant crashing and overheating to the bugginess of android. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages. And also just jailbreak an iPhone if you want more functionality

    This here proves that the Jailbreak is headed for the shit hole. I think the same thing will happen to the iPhone 5 as happens to the iPad 2. I don’t think we will see many jailbreaks for iOS 5 too. Too bad it was fun wile it lasted. I wish we can go back to the first days of jailbreaking.

    I swear to god if there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 5 I will rip my skull off in anger, I’ve been patiently waiting hoping to hear a release date because right now I’m stuck with an iPhone 3G a jailbroken one at that, it’s slow, it sucks and I’ve been waiting for my contract to end in December and hopefully get an iPhone 5 if it does indeed come out an now this the only guy who had a clue and took the effort to jailbreak the iPad 2 is gone.

    Let’s be honest I doubt the dev team will come out with a jailbreak and if they did well it would take forever as usual, looks like my first proper iPhone is gonna suck.

    i’m gonna buy an ipad2, and i am going to have ios 5 on it with untethered jb. i guess now it’s going to be impossible :(
