Ever wondered what the most downloaded free application was? What about the most downloaded pad app? Well, if these questions ever kept you up at night, now rejoice because Apple is sharing this information with us.

As the company is counting down to the 10,000,000,000th app sold, Apple created a new page on iTunes that shows the top app downloads of all times. Spoiler: Facebook is #1…

Apple broke it down into 2 categories: free and paid apps:

  1. Facebook
  2. Pandora
  3. Google Mobile App
  4. Shazam
  5. Movies by Flixster
  6. The Weather Channel
  7. Google Earth
  8. Bump
  9. Skype
  10. Paper Toss

Some of them are surprising. Google Mobile was unexpected, as was Movies by Flixster. Bump wasn’t shocking, but only because of the exposure it got in an iPhone ad a couple of years ago. Otherwise, the rest of the free apps, and pretty much all of the paid apps were pretty much what I expected.

  • 1 game in free, and all except 1 are games in paid, both in the end of respective category?

    What does it tell?

I though Angry Bird will be Top paid app.

    • VnABC

No, Angry Bird was released after others on top of it, in the long run, it may be the number 1.

It makes sense. Most of the best selling apps are games because the most useful and interesting apps/tweaks are on Cydia, not in the Apple Store.

Pocket God sucks! I bought like ten years ago it is boring like hell

  • Dadditude

10 years ago? What? Were you some super-secret pre-alpha tester? Considering that the iPhone has only been out for not quite four years and the App Store won’t celebrate it’s third anniversary until June of this year, I call bullshit on you.

Found this great site that has paid apps for free but only for a limited time. They usually revert back to paid apps within 24 hours so it’s best to check back twice a day.
