Apple’s new iPhone 4 TV ad titled “Longer” has been airing for a couple of days now. It makes an emphasis on the great battery life, telling you that the iPhone 4 new lithium polymer battery lets you work, play, and talk longer.

I do believe the iPhone 4 battery is a great improvement from the iPhone 3GS’. I can now go through a day of average usage without having to charge the battery at every occasion I have…

In case you think the iPhone 4 battery life is not that great, you might want to check out these tips to optimize it.

    I don’t Think it’s that great – i can’t go a hole day ón one charge…
And I’ve done everything you suggested…
    With out luck…

  • I can attest to the battery life the iPhone 4. Is it perfect? No. Is it probably the best on the market for a touch screen device, you bet. As a person who uses, troubleshoots, and trains others on several android, blackberry, and palm devices on a regular basis, I can honestly say the iPhone 4’s battery life CRUSHES them. My work phone, a motorola droid 2, will make it from 9am to 5pm with maybe a combined total of 90 minutes talk time, no wifi, no Bluetooth, and will be on it’s last bar by the time I get home. And i see similar patterns with other android devices, my curve 3G would last well into the night and the next morning but never 2 full days. Now just yesterday i set out on a ridiculous car trip from Nebraska to Texas, a 10 hour trip, for the holidays. And I wish i would have documented it with screen shots or something, but I set out with about 98% battery life. And between continuous use of google maps and the built in gps, several phone calls and text messages (I pulled over I swear ;p), probably 8 hours of mp3 playing (My rental did have sirius radio), and even fairly frequent use of the camera to send location updates to friends and family and I’m telling you this phone power cycled off about 25 miles from my destination. Yes i had car charger with me but after seeing how well the battery was doing mid way through the trip I decided to let it go to see what this battery was really worth. I even noticed when I plugged it in and it and it powered back on that Bluetooth had been in standby the entire time as well, not a huge deal but worth noting. Hands down he iPhone 4 is the best I’ve seen, and sometimes i feel like I’ve seen em all!

Just recently I installed an app called System Manager for iPhone. The first app that shows ALL the processes running in the background, allows termination of them individually, gives a detailed info about memory usage and availability. But most importantly, and finally relevant to the article, System offers battery management, i.e.: charge cycles, accurate time to charge display, monthly trickle charge reminder, full charge notifications to prevent harmful overcharging, etc etc.
All in all, it might be a Little irrelevant to the topic, but I’m sure a lot of users may find System Manager to be very useful.
