LimeRa1n: A New Jailbreak-It-All By Geohot

limera1nA few weeks after teasing us with a video showing an untethered jailbreak for all devices, an iPad jailbreak and an iPhone 4.0 jailbreak, GeoHot is now rumored to be releasing a new jailbreak called LimeRa1n in the next few days.

The rumor started when iHackinTosh got tipped about a new website called LimeRa1n.com. After checking the whois info, it appears that registrant info for both LimeRa1n and BlackRa1n is in the name and address of GeoHot.

The questions on everybody’s lips is now when will GeoHot release LimeRa1n and what device will it allow to jailbreak? LimeRa1n should be available in the next few days and it should work on all devices, including the iPhone and iPod Touch 3.1.3, as well as the iPad.

A jailbreak for these devices has been around for a while now but they’ve never been released in order to prevent Apple to patch the exploits in a future OS update.

While, LimeRa1n has no set release date, you can still jailbreak you iPhone with BlackRa1n, PwnageTool, and RedSn0w.

    @jayjay my bad then haha… @rudi… we are aware of that and thats why we are waiting patiently for either this limera1n or something similar to come out… cuz i remember reading somewhere i think maybe it was @musclenerd that some other program might come out soon and that its going to be all idevices and such… and to be honest they actually show and update some kinda progress which i cannot unfortunately say the same for limera1n… so im in a pickle here not really sure what to believe anymore lol haha

    As far as Im concerned, the “leaks” on youtube are all shit and fake. Seriously, geohot does NOT “leak” things. He puts them out on his website, and announces it himself when it is ready.
    If you hear anything else from other people, they are lying. If you see websites offering it for a small fee or payment, they are scams.

    Seriously. Its not that hard. you want real info, go to Geohots twitter page, or his iphone blog. just google geohot and there is all the info you need.

    Alright, so here is what I am gonna put out for all of you, a jailbreak is available for 3gs users who upgraded to 4.0. This jailbreak comes directly from the iphone dev team, which is another good place to go for your jailbreaks. Just google iphone dev team, and you will find them.

    Their jailbreaking tool is called pwnagetool 4.01, and it jailbreaks your iphone 3gs and everything you need is on there. You must have a mac(pwnagetool 4.01 does not work on PC)
    and itunes 9.2

    Follow the instructions and viola! you have a jailbroken phone.
    This is for all you who are impatient or just simply tired of waiting for Limera1n.
    I havent used it yet, but a lot of people have given it good reviews. I might use it by the end of july if limera1n still isnt out.

    well unfortunately for me… im a windows user so this pwnagetool is of no use to me… because trust me ive seen it around a couple of times and was anxious to use it myself when the surprise hit me that it was only mac user friendly…so i was distraught haha oh well… patiently looking for alternatives to limera1n or something on @musclenerd for a potential jailbreak… haha

    Well for PC users there is Redsnow, which can be found on the Iphone Dev Team site. But redsnow is known for being tricky…
    Hence more for advance users, and people who like doing workarounds.

    well i have been aware of redsn0w for the pc but unfortunately they havent come up with with an MC model jailbreak yet… and i found a link to download a version for MC models but the link was broken or maybe just taken down… so tough luck for me unfortunately…

    Well… it does look like GeoHot has officially retired from the iHacking community…

    BUT! He said something on his twitter page 5 hours before taking it down, to follow Mike Cohens twitter for all future jailbreak releases.

    So I dont know if he is taking a break, or he has permenantly retired.

    So as of right now, limera1n looks like it is either scratched, or indefinitly on hold

    As of right now, for PC users there is redsnow, and for mac users, there is Pwnagetool 4.01

    And apparently us mc model users are officially faked in the arse lol until some good time in th future wh they eventually make the mc model releases which can honestly take a pretty long time seein to it that the majority of people eithe have an mb model or are luckily to have bought a newer version than mine hahaha

    well i can understand it if he wants to retire on something but make it clear on a release dont ya think? i know it may sound somewhat selfish or whatnot but think about it…. why on earth would u tease people about making a “jailbreak it all idevices” and that you will be releasing it in time and then all of a sudden just say “ooh no well people ask for too much so im not going to do anything anymore…” my thoughts would be release limera1n or whatever it is he’s going to release and leave it said clear, “this will be my final release of anything pertaining to JBing because i do not want to deal with all the constant naggers and blah blah blah…” leave the scene with something u had mentioned u would be releasing lol… those are my thoughts on the case what about everyone else?

    @Russ: He did do it. He even had the jailbroken phone at Paris hacking convention this year. As to why he doesnt release it, I am not sure, but I think it has to do with everyone bugging him. You piss him off enough he will feel tempted to piss all of us off because of all the naggers. I know thats how I would do it.

    Any chance someone can point me to a downgrade? I jailbroke with sn0wbreeze on new bootrom and didn’t save my 3.1.2 shsh cos… Well…. I just didn’t. Any way I hate ios 4 the backgrounding makes it a pain to close apps, I can’t use any of my old themes, apps keep crashing, less than half my cydia apps work and safari crashes atleast once out of every 5 pages I view. Even apps that did work on ios 4 just all of a sudden won’t get past the loading screen. Who cares if geohot dosent release a jb. Why should he have to. If I’d put so much effort into something why would I give it away to people who whinge and bitch but contribute nothing to the scene. I personally don’t have the skills to contribute yet so I sit quietly and learn what can until someone is nice enuf to share their discovery. If everyone keeps pressuring hackers for jailbreaks and unlocks and demanding developers update FREE apps to work with new firmware updates the scene will die out quick as you can say geohot

    Get real people. U know how much money is in jailbreaking. How many expensive apps are there that can only be used after jail breaking. Contribute? Hello! Costly jailbroken apps. Geohot either one – sold out or two can’t create a superior working product. Its simple economics people. Why would someone not want their hack to be running on thousands if not millions of systems. Oh George suddenly decided he was gona be righteous. Don’t be naive. The next hacker will accomplish it instead. He would accomplish nothing except being the one who didn’t do it and we wait another day. Like I said, sold out or failed.

    Sorry but it sounds like the person who needs to get real is you. He didn’t fail(that’s already been proven that he jailbroke it), he GOT FED UP WITH WHINERS AND BEGGERS. he said so on his twitter page, and quite frankly it makes sense. I’d be fed up too with all the pressure.

    and yes it has already been proven that he has successfully jailbroken and unlocked iphone 4 and jailbroken iOS4… he clearly said so himseld in a post i recall reading… its just the matter of the point that he would get countless amounts of emails bugging and nagging about his next release because they want to unlock/jailbreak iOS 4… im with geo on this one… if people bug alot then to hell with them…. although ill admit it would have been nice for him to release limera1n or any other name he could have come up with and leave it clearly said that the release of that would be his final one because of the constant nagging and flaming emails which all say or i should say ask him when his next release is coming…

If you cant see then then you are seriously confused. Watch a keynote or two. There were ten million iphones in existent BEFORE the iPhone 4. Geo IS getting something…and if he hasn’t made money then he is not very smart. You guys keep saying he has jailbroken the phone because he said so. Well lets say he is telling the truth. That doesn’t mean he developed the product we were expecting.. In fact far from it. Their is a big leap from jailbreaking a phone and developing a product that can jailbreak every idevice with each unique configuration. Geo sold out. IF he truely developed limera1n then he let down a lot of people by not releasing it. And for what? He showed us! Otherwise he failed to even get it done. There is more goin on here. You kids just don’t understand how the world works.

Hate to say it bust most people in the community are not greedy assholes out to make a buck other wise they would charge for all apps. And why don’t these people deserve money for the programs and hacks THEY created. Would you work for free? No? But your saying u would allow thousands of people who have spent months and months annoying you to download and use software u created that could very well have taken weeks of personal time( given sometimes only hours) on the chance that afew of them will donate to you.

    Alright, so here are some possible good news based on the information that he left on his twitter account before he closed it.

    1) He told his followers to follow a certian someone on twitter for all future jailbreak releases. (Does this mean that THEY will be taking and continuing HIS work???)

    2) People like Russ need to get their facts straight cause us loyalist have been on here and following this topic longer than he has. iOS 4 has been jailbroken…

    3) He is still active, his blog is now posted as private, but he is still posting info.

    Unfortunately this, let’s just call this a temporary setback, happened and therefore it will not be as quick as we had hoped but something will get done eventually…. And until that day comes from anywhere really we are all here patiently waiting

    well it worked for me (the link i previosly posted) but it is glitchy as hell! ios 4.0 ipod touch 2g 8gig mc model , I recently used spirit jb but it crashed so i went from ios 3.1.3 to ios 4.0

    @all of the pains of the world: you guys gone of and done it, Geo took out all of the IP ports on all of his sites. He won’t be doing anything, jailbreaking or otherwise. For all the ones who say they could jailbreak any IO4; Go make your own site and release your work. Me I just jailbroke my IOS4 iPod touch 2nd gen mc with Koncoror, but it is so glitchy and turns off half of the time so I won’t bother sending out the fifty files it took to do it. Well I sugest to all of the ones bitching and moaning on a jailbreak.., build on of your own you dumb@$$. Seriously once you try to do it and see how time consuming it really is, then you have the right to complain. Hell it takes me 6 months just to get my Programs to work slightly on windows and I have a Linux computer which is much closer to windows than mac’s are.

    guys im not being a hater, but really just give up. there is no limera1n coming out. How long has it been since they said the release is “just a matter of days”? it has been a MONTH AND A HALF. And the hacker dude said he was giving up cuz every1 kept on bothering him. If it really is coming out, it (the update) was major, i mean look 3.1.3 to 4.0.1. It will take them at least a month MORE to complete the update.
    Hey part of the reason i jailbroke my mc model ipod touch 2 gen was cuz i could download youtube videos. u can do that with firefox!! download it and download the “download youtube videos” add-on. then when u go to watch a video it has a download option, download it as a mp4.

    A jailbreak is for I devices like the itouch ir the iPhone, not for Nintendos systems. Plus I don’t think the DS has enough space in the system for a modded firmware. Sorry to say but it will not.
