Samsung is offering some extra goodies to people interested in participating in its Ultimate Test Drive program which seeks to persuade iPhone users to test-drive the Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy Note5 or Galaxy S6 edge+ for 30 days in exchange for just one dollar.
Now the South Korean company is tempting would-be switchers with $100 of Google Play credit for buying apps, media and other content and an additional cheque for $100 if they traded in their iPhone to their carrier or retailer, as per AndroidCentral.
Samsung is taking another hit in the battle for profit and market share, with a bill of materials for the new Galaxy S6 Edge pegged at about $290 for the 64GB version, as reported by Recode. For comparison, the more expensive iPhone 6 Plus money can buy only costs Apple $263 to build. Of course, this doesn’t take into account cost of R&D, marketing, etc, but it still paints a dark picture for Samsung who’s had a few rough quarters due to its mobile division bleeding profits. Spending more to build a device that will be sold for less doesn’t seem like the best idea either.
Samsung just took the stage at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday to unveil its answer to the iPhone 6, its new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge flagships. Succeeding the Galaxy S5, which Samsung had trouble selling, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will ship April 10 on all four major US carriers.
Samsung is remaining mum on pricing for either handset, but has revealed specifications for the devices. Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge feature a 5.1-inch quad HD display, 2.1GHz quad-core processor, Android 5.0 Lollipop, 16-megapixel OIS rear-camera, and 5-megapixel front-camera.
The introduction of both handsets wasn’t in the company’s typical fashion. Samsung’s event at Mobile World Congress wasn’t a theatrical affair, instead the South Korea-based company got to the point when it came to ushering in its reinvigorated product line. It was quite refreshing.
