Tim Cook caused quite a bit of commotion last week when he told investors that Apple "has some amazing new hardware, software, and services coming this fall." Most folks took it as we aren't going to see anything new from the company until then.

But that may not be the case, according to a purported leaked document from Japanese wireless carrier KDDI. The internal note, meant for sales floor staff, offers up plan pricing information and some details about the upcoming iPhone 5S smartphone...

Tim Cook talks new product categories, downplays chances of larger iPhone

Apple's Q2 earnings conference call just ended, and by most counts it went rather well. The company beat Wall Street estimates for iPhone and iPad sales, and revenue, and announced a huge initiative to return $100 billion back to investors by 2015.

So why has Apple's stock fallen from its huge after-hours spike back down to where it started? Well, it might have something to do with Tim Cook's comments on Apple's product pipeline. The CEO indicated that we won't see any new stuff until the fall...

iPad 5: lighter and thinner thanks to tweaked display assembly

Several supply chain checks are now pointing to Apple's fifth-generation iPad being lighter and thinner over its predecessor, the iPad 4. According to one display expert, Apple will achieve the thinner appearance in a lighter device thanks to advancements in the display department. For starters, in reducing the size of LED backlighting and improving its efficiency, Apple engineers will be able to reduce the overall weight of the device. Apple's Executive Profile page lists Jeff Williams as the Senior Vice President of Operations. But according to people inside the company, he's much more important than that. Some folks even refer to him as "Cook's right-hand man."

So it should come as no surprise that, according to a new report, Williams is in Beijing this week dealing with Apple's major PR fallout in China, after taking severe criticism in recent weeks over its warranty practices in the country...

New report claims Microsoft Office landing on iOS next fall

Over the last several months, there's been a lot of talk regarding the potential for an iOS version of MS Office. Folks particularly want to see it land on the iPad, as research shows the move could be worth some $2.5 billion to Microsoft.

But despite all of the chatter, we have yet to see any indication that Office is on its way to Apple's mobile platform. And it doesn't look like we're going to anytime soon. A new report suggests the app suite won't land on iOS until next fall...

Yahoo and Apple said to be in talks over deeper iPhone partnership

It looks like Yahoo could stand to gain from the war that has broken out between Apple and Google. Now that the iPad-maker has cleared nearly every trace of Google from the stock iOS experience (besides web search), it's apparently in the market for a new partner.

And that partner could just be the Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo. The web company already provides data for a few iOS apps, including Weather, Stocks and Siri. And according to a new report, it's in talks with Apple to take that relationship to the next level...

Report claims iPhone 5S coming in multiple colors this summer

The next-generation iPhone, believed to be the iPhone 5S, is widely expected to land sometime this summer. This, despite the fact that the iPhone 5 just came out in September of last year, and Apple typically waits at least 12 months to update its handset.

And another report is out today in support of that theory. This one comes from the Japanese blog Macotakara, who cites sources familiar with Apple's plans, in claims that both the iPhone 5S and rumored budget iPhone are going to be announced in July...

Apple's rumored S-upgrade to its iPhone, the iPhone 5S, is assumed to arrive some time during summer, possibly shortly after Apple presumably announces it at its annual developers conference in June or July (the company hasn't yet set the date for WWDC 2013). One analyst in a note issued to clients Tuesday wrote that supply chatter points to multiple screen sizes for the iPhone 5S in order to appeal to consumers who dig jumbo-sized handsets and improve its standing in the market...

As we move into mid-April, the odds of seeing Apple unveil a new product this spring continue to dwindle. It feels like we're getting close enough to its June developer conference, that any major announcements could wait until then.

There is, however, still a rumor floating around that Apple has plans for an iPad event later this month. But according to a new supply chain report, that's not going to happen, as 5th gen iPads won't go into production until the summer...
