iPhone 5c outsold Galaxy S5 in the UK

I'm sick and tired of hearing armchair analysts repeatedly proclaiming Apple's unapologetically plastic iPhone 5c a failure just because sales numbers don't meet their wet dream targets.

I bought an iPhone 5c for my Mom's birthday. My friend owns one. Yes, I even see it used in public.

To this date, not a single iPhone 5c owner exhibited a case of buyer's remorse.

I mean, you never hear anyone complaining about Apple's practice of keeping past two iPhone generations on the market at reduced prices whenever a new model comes along. The strategy has served the company well and that's exactly what the iPhone 5c is - a previous-gen iPhone repackaged inside a plastic chassis, sold at a discount.

A lot of ink has been spilled to paint the iPhone 5c a dud, but time and again real world numbers simply don't corroborate this notion. A good example is a new Kantar survey proving that Apple's mid-tier handset beat Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S5 in terms of sales in the United Kingdom...

Apple predicted to sell 36.5 million iPhones in June quarter

Apple is poised to have another record-breaking quarter for iPhone sales, if a new prediction proves to be true. According to Wells Fargo Securities analyst Maynard Um, the addition of new carriers and several promotions will help drive iPhone sales to 36.5 million for the June quarter. Um predicts that Apple will have quarterly revenue of $38.2 billion, beating the Wall Street prediction of $37.9 million…

Mobile-exclusive Civilization Revolution 2 now available on iOS

As promised, publishing label 2K Games and developer Firaxis today released Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2, a mobile exclusive game filed as the long-awaited sequel to the iOS and console port of the 2008 PC original, Civilization Revolution, which was a turn-based strategy game.

The game is now available in the App Store as a premium $14.99 download for the iPhone and iPad.

With new units, new technology, new buildings and wonders, updated 3D graphics and new historic events and battles available in the Scenario Mode, Civilization Revolution 2 is a no-brainer for true fans of Sid Meier's sim games...

Apple cuts maximum iPhone trade-in value to $225

Less than 24 hours after extending its in-store and online iPhone trade-in program to Italy (and coming to Australia later this week), word on the street reaches us that Apple Stores have now slashed the maximum trade-in value of eligible iPhone models, as part of its Reuse and Recycle program, to a new low of $225 for good condition iPhone 5 units...

Vine updated with Loop Counts, revamped Activity section and more

Twitter-owned Vine's mobile app hasn't received a lot of important new features lately as the team focused on making the web interface more functional and prettier.

Today, Vine announced a cool new feature addition: Loop Counts. Now available in the just-updated Vine for iPhone version 2.1, Loop Counts indicate how many times people have looped a video, including on Vine and in embeds across the web.

Vine also contains a cleaner feed with bigger videos and a revamped Activity section with new account milestones and more visual notifications and other perks...

Readdle’s Scanner Pro now half price to celebrate 6M downloads, iOS 8 app in the works

Scanner Pro, one of the best apps for quickly scanning and saving a digital version of a paper document, has passed six million downloads since its App Store debut in December of 2009.

It's a noteworthy milestone in my book given the software costs seven bucks and has thus far gone temporarily free only once, as Apple's Free App of the Week in January.

To celebrate the milestone, Ukrainian developer Readdle has temporarily shaved 50 percent off Scanner Pro's asking price, now available for a limited time for just $2.99...

Apple extends AppleCare+ purchase window to 60 days for iPhone and iPad

As we outlined in a report earlier this month, Apple has gone ahead and doubled the AppleCare+ purchase window for new iPhones and iPads. Customers are now eligible to purchase AppleCare+ for their new iPhone and iPad up to 60 days after purchasing the device, whereas it was previously 30 days. AppleCare+ extends Apple's 90-day complimentary support to two years and includes accidental damage coverage.

AppleCare+ costs $99 for both the iPhone and iPad plans, purchasable through the Apple Store both in-store and online. Apple has updated its website to reflect the new 60-day policy that is now in effect in all regions outside of Japan, where the 30-day window remains. These changes do not apply to Macs, iPods or any other Apple products outside of the iPhone and iPad…

Apple launches iPhone trade-in in Italy, coming to Australia later this week

Last August, Apple Stores in the United States started accepting customers' older iPhones (iPhone 3G and up) in exchange for a credit redeemable against the purchase of a brand spanking new iPhone.

The iPhone trade-in has since expanded to Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany and has now gone live in Italy. Furthermore, the initiative is set to expand to Australia in the coming days.

Customers in Italy can now trade in their older iPhone model for an Apple Store Gift Card worth up to €220, which works out to about $300. Folks can then use the store credit towards the purchase of a new iPhone, helping bring upfront payment down to a more bearable level...

Pebble 2.3 firmware now live with notification skipping with a double-click

Nearly a month into its most recent firmware update which has brought out a much-needed music volume control and Launcher item ordering, the maker of the Pebble smartwatch on Tuesday issued another firmware update while refreshing its companion iOS app with smaller changes.

The Pebble 2.3 software update brings improved Bluetooth performance and, more importantly, enables the ability to quickly skip to the next notification by double clicking, in addition to other tweaks...

Apple’s Back to School launches with free $100 store credit on Mac purchases

As predicted, Apple on Tuesday launched the 2015 Back to School promotion in the United States and in several countries around the globe, depending on their respective educational calendars.

Somewhat similar to last year's Back to School promotion, Apple this year is providing students with a $100 Gift card with the purchase of any new Mac model.

Students who opt for an iPhone or iPad will be treated to a free $50 Apple Store gift card. However, this is the first time that Apple's Back to School promotion is offering gift cards, redeemable against any Apple Store item purchase...

New images show alleged iPhone 6 display covers

MacRumors is reporting that Apple is set to launch its annual ‘Back to School’ promotion in the US and several other countries beginning tomorrow—Tuesday, July 1st. The company runs the promo at various times in different regions, depending on their respective educational calendars.

According to the site, Apple will be offering up iTunes Store/App Store gift cards to students that purchase a Mac, iPad, or iPhone. Similar to last year, it sounds like students will receive a $100 App Store gift card for the purchase of a new Mac, and a $50 card for new iOS device purchases...
