The new iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak tool will likely be called Absinthe 2.0

With the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak right around the corner, work has apparently started on packaging the exploits into a tool that your average iOS device owner can utilize.

Tools like GreenPois0n and RedSn0w take 99% of the guess work out of the jailbreaks, making it so that almost anyone can take advantage of the benefits that jailbreaking brings to the table.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that the highly anticipated 5.1.1 jailbreak will follow the same pattern. Judging from a conversation I had with an iOS hacker close to pod2g, it appears that the latest jailbreak tool in the pipeline will retain the Absinthe name.

In other words, I'd say it's totally reasonable to expect an Absinthe 2.0 iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak sometime within the next few days...

123D Catch: capture 3D photos using your iPad

So this is pretty cool: Autodesk, the maker of the popular 3D design software AutoCAD, has just released a new app for the iPad called 123D Catch. The software enables you to capture 3D images of things using your tablet's camera.

No, you won't need any glasses to view these pictures. Simply use the app to snap photos of almost any object (it doesn't work well with glass) from multiple angles, and let Autodesk's 3D rendering software take care of the rest...

9to5Mac made the discovery just a few moments ago, pointing out that the one time named 'iPad Wi-FI + 4G' tablet model has been renamed to 'iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular' in Apple's online store...

iOS 5.1 jailbreak still “some weeks away”

Talk regarding the iOS 5.1 jailbreak has really picked up in the last 24 hours. Shortly after pod2g announced that he was running an untethered jailbreak on his third-generation iPad yesterday, he posted a video of the hack.

But all of this talk can be a bit of a tease without any information on when the exploit will be available to the public. So knowing that, pod2g gave us a little bit of information last night on the ETA of the 5.1 jailbreak...

Upcoming version of RedSn0w will allow you to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and the new iPad

Awesome news for those who accidentally updated the firmware for their A5 device (iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and the new iPad aka iPad 3), possibly resulting in the loss of the precious untethered jailbreak. MuscleNerd has announced that an upcoming update to RedSn0w will allow users to downgrade their firmware.

The only catch is that you have to have your SHSH blobs saved for the firmware that you wish to downgrade to. That means that if you purchased your iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1 pre-installed, there's no way to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 so that you can enjoy the benefits of pod2g's untethered jailbreak...
