[digg-me]This guide will show you how to use QuickPWN to jailbreak your iPhone firmware 2.2.1. Please read carefully all the steps and warnings before attempting to use QuickPWN to jailbreak your iPhone. The following tutorial is for PC users.

I made it clear that I'm not a big fan of Ustream. One of the concern many of you have is that it doesn't work over 3G. Well, I've got good news for you. Thanks to this simple hack, you will now be able to watch Ustream over 3G, and not only rely on wifi.
In order to do so, there are some prerequisites:
Your iPhone must be jailbroken - see quickpwn 2.2 tutorial You must install the following apps from Cydia: Mobile Substrate; OpenSSH; VoIPover3G (reboot after install) You must not be scared of playing around with your iPhone files...Now comes the funny part! Note that from now on, I assume you are familiar with SSH. If not, there are plenty of tutorial on YouTube that will show you how to do that.
1. SSH into your iPhone and go to the root directory "/"
2. Navigate to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries
3. With a text editor, open VoIPover3G.plist
4. Look for:
Filter = {Bundles = ("com.Fringland.Fring", "com.apple.AppStore", "com.audiofile.Interstate", "com.apple.MobileStore");};
Now add this part: , "tv.ustream.player"
It should look like this:
Filter = {Bundles = ("com.Fringland.Fring", "com.apple.AppStore", "com.audiofile.Interstate", "com.apple.MobileStore", "tv.ustream.player");};
Don't forget the "," and the quotation marks!
5. Save the changes you just made and upload the file back to its location: /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries
6. Now go to your springboard and delete the Ustream application. Reboot your iPhone and reinstall Ustream from the App Store.
7. You're good to go! Ustream should now work over 3G!

[digg-me]Below are instructions on how to unlock your iPhone 3G using Yellow Sn0w. Unlocking your iPhone 3G will make it possible for you to use any cellphone carrier.
Before you go any further, make sure to READ EVERY SINGLE WORD OF THIS TUTORIAL. If you think you're too cool for school, then go directly to the instructions but please, do not complain if you mess up your iPhone during the process, which is very unlikely to happen anyways...
First things first. In order to be able for you to use Yellow Sn0w to unlock your iPhone 3G, you have to be on a jailbroken iPhone that runs the latest firmware 2.2 with the latest baseband 02.28.00. To find out what firmware you're on, go to Settings > General > About and look for "Modem Firmware". It should say 02.28.00.
If you have not jailbroken your iPhone yet, you have to now in order to unlock. To jailbreak your iPhone, follow the QuickPwn 2.2 guide that I wrote a few weeks ago.
If you have already jailbroken your iPhone using PwnageTool to preserve your baseband, sorry but you have to restore and rejailbreak again in order to have the latest 02.28.00 baseband.
If you have updated to the latest firmware 2.2 with its latest 02.28.00 baseband, then you're good to go.
So from now on, I assume that you are on a clean firmware 2.2 with firmware 02.28.00 and that your iPhone is jailbroken.
1. Go to Cydia and install this new source: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ (note that snow is spelled with a zero, not an "o"). To install a new source in Cydia, go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add, then type in the source http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ and tap "Add Source".
2. Once the source has been added, tap "Return To Cydia", then tap "Done".
3. Now tap "apt9.yellowsn0w.com from the list of sources "Entered By Users".
4. Select Yellow Sn0w, then tap install nad confirm.
5. Once the installation had been successfully completed, return to Cydia.
6. Hard reset your iPhone. To do this, hold the home and power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until the phone shuts off by itself (ignore the "slide to power off" message)
7. Insert whatever SIM card you want! Wait a few seconds and you should be good.
8. Done!
See, that wasn't too hard at all. Users that are already familiar with Cydia and sources shouldn't have any problem at all. But first time jailbreakers might be a little lost, which is why I detailed this tutorial a lot.
Now there are a few known issues with Yellow Sn0w and I highly recommend you either read my previous post about it, or go directly to the Dev Team's blog.
Troubleshooting:
1) If you are on tmobile USA you should disable 3G in Settings or sbsettings. 2) YellowSn0w does not work with a SIM PIN. You must disable your SIM card pin lock.
At any rate, I would really appreciate it if you could digg this post, then write a comment, then go to the Dev Team's blog to thank them for their great work.
Yellow Sn0w, the soft unlock created by the Dev Team is now available from Cydia or Installer. Instead of rewording what the Dev Team has to say about it, I will simply copy/paste their entire post from their blog.
I don't like copy/pasting large amounts of texts from other sites, but in this case, I find it really necessary. I really recommend you go over to the Dev Team's blog, read the post from there, and write a nice thank you comment.

BASICS
The unlock works exclusively with baseband 02.28.00. This baseband is provided by the latest firmware update (2.2) from Apple. You’ll need to upgrade to this release using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to activate etc. There are plenty of tutorials about this on iclarified, bigboss, and other established tutorial sites. Because it works on 02.28.00, it is available to everyone on the planet. This means we don’t need to unnecessarily expose holes in earlier basebands, which is an important concern. The application is a small daemon that is launched on boot. It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset. You won’t notice anything about it other than that your third-party sim now works. It’s a small program and unobtrusive. There is no GUI (this is by design). You can add the application using the sources outlined below (coming soon). There are Cydia and Installer sources available, so use whichever you are comfortable using. yellowsn0w is completely removable through Cydia, the command line, and iTunes.DETAILS
There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus. These menus are usually items such as “top up” “get credit” “lotto numbers” etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes. Removing and reinserting the SIM once after reboot (give it about 10 secs 60 seconds (with v0.9.1) after you see the slide to unlock widget) fixes this issue. We’re working on a better fix. For those of you using SIM cards without STK menus, the application has some optional arguments that will make the unlock much faster for you. So either experiment on your own (use “yellowsn0w -h” for usage) or wait for a customization writeup. After you install yellowsn0w via Cydia, you should return to the Cydia main menu then reboot your iPhone with the 3rd party SIM installed. Wait for the slide to unlock screen, then wait 10 or 15 secs more. If you don’t see your carrier name pop up, then remove your SIM, reinsert it, and wait 10 secs more. This is the step we’ll be working on eliminating next.RANDOM
The application is version 0.9 0.9.1. This is considered beta software, you use it at your own risk. You know the score. The application is released on a non-commerical basis. Please do not accept pirates and scummy ripoffs of this software. We license this software for single use and in a non-commerical environment (meaning you can’t charge for it). Soon you’ll see yellowsn0w 0.9.1 in the repos. It uses a much longer delay to let your SIM card initialize. If you have problems with 0.9.0, try this one and wait a full minute after you see homescreen, then reinsert sim card. We need both success and failure reports to tune this across the world, so please be patient (but please also report result!) If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings. Also if you are good with the command line, you can make it much easier by adding the line <string>-q</string> right after the /usr/bin/yellowsn0w line in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.iphone-dev.yellowsn0w.plist (that’s and advanced tip, hopefully someone will make a boosprefs type of tool for it) No PIN support yet. Remember how we said this was beta? Well we’re still working out the flow for SIMs with PINs enabled. Please disable any PIN you may have on that SIM before trying yellowsn0w, for now. The unlock will silently quit on anything other than baseband 02.28.00. It detects the wrong version and just quits to avoid any damage. Please double check your Modem Firmware setting in Settings->General->About.If you're an iPod Touch owner and you feel that you've been left alone with the Google street view feature, I have some good news for you. iPodTouchFans.com user timmyj9 reveals a hack that will allow you to get Google street view on your iPod Touch.
To do so, you will need some very basic skills. Here it goes:
1. get this file via ssh: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N45AP.plist 2. convert to xml at http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml 3. add

4. save then using that website again reconvert to binary 5. rename original file N45AP.old 6. copy new N45AP.plist in (make sure permissions are 644) 7. reboot ipod all new Maps features work however you get a searching for service (replaces the word ipod in the top left) and waiting for activation message that pops up occassionally, music settings disappear also music slot in prefs disappears (hjrry)

Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Update or restore your iPhone to firmware 2.2 using iTunes. Restoring is the preferred way to do it as it won't waste space on your iPhone. Plug your iPhone and make sure iTunes has detected it. If you’re iPhone is already jailbroken, you may want to remove all the apps that you have downloaded from Cydia. Certain applications such as Winterboard, Categories and more cause trouble. You will be able to reinstall them later. Create a folder called “QuickPwn” on your desktop. Download your appropriate iPhone 2.2 firmware from here. Also download the QuickPwn 2.2 from here, the bootloader files BL 3.9 and BL 4.6 from here too. Place these files in the newly created QuickPwn folder on your desktop. Extract QuickPwn zipped file. Launch QuickPwn and select your iPhone version. You will be asked to select your iPhone firmware. Select the firmware you downloaded in Step 1. If the firmware you selected is valid, QuickPwn will show a green checkmark. Click Continue. You will then have the opportunity to select Cydia, Installer, custom boot logos and "unlock iPhone". You have to select Cydia and "unlock iPhone". You may also choose to install Installer. Click Next. You will now be asked to select your bootloader files. Click the Browse button and select the 3.9 bootloader from the Pwnage folder on your desktop. Likewise do the same thing for the 4.6 bootloader file. Then click the blue arrow button to continue. QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm that your iPhone is connected. Click the blue arrow to continue. QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode. Watch the prompts carefully and follow along. Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode, it will start the jailbreak process. Finally, QuickPwn will let you know that pwnage process was completed successfully. Done![digg-me]Let us know how it goes!

This QuickPwn 2.2 tutorial will be short as I have already posted a QuickPwn guide before. This guide only shows you how to jailbreak. If you want to learn how to unlock your iPhone 2.2 firmware, please read my iPhone 2.2 QuickPwn unlock tutorial.
The following is not applicable anymore since you can unlock your iPhone safely with this method.
IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE DEV TEAM:
If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.
Before doing anything, I suggest you read this important message from the Dev Team.
What does that mean? It means that you can only use this method if you don't care about unlocking your iPhone in the future. If you're a "legit" AT&T iPhone user and you have no interest in unlocking your iPhone in the future, then this is for you.
On the other hand, if you're not a "legit" user or if you do want to be able to unlock your iPhone in the future, then this is NOT for you. If that's the case, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone using PwnageTool, which will preserve your baseband.
Note that you are pwning your iPhone at your own risk… Success is not guaranteed!
Create a folder called “QuickPwn” on your desktop. Download a copy of your iPhone 2.2 firmware from here. Also download QuickPwn 2.2 from here. Place all these files in the newly created QuickPwn folder on your desktop. Unzip QuickPwn. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes. If you have to update to the latest version of iTunes, I highly recommend you restart your computer after the update. Not restarting my computer after updating iTunes caused me trouble in the past... Plug your iPhone and make sure iTunes has detected it. If you’re iPhone is already jailbroken, you may want to remove all the apps that you have downloaded from Cydia. Certain applications such as Winterboard, Categories and more cause trouble. You will be able to reinstall them later. As an alternative solution, you may want to read by post about upgrading a jailbroken iPhone without using AptBackup, which saves your Cydia apps settings. Update or restore your iPhone to firmware 2.2 using iTunes. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone. Right after restoring your iPhone, launch QuickPwn. It should recognize your device automatically.You will be asked to select your iPhone firmware. Select the firmware you downloaded in Step 1.
If the firmware you selected is valid, QuickPwn will show a green checkmark. Click Continue.
You will then have the opportunity to select Cydia,Installer, and custom boot logos. You have to at least select Cydia. You may also choose to install Installer .and check to BootLogos box if you want to replace your boot logo. Click Next.
QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm that your iPhone is connected. Click the blue arrow to continue.
QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Firmware update 2.2 surprised a few people who accidentally updated their iPhone. If that happened to you, you now have 2 choices: either stay and 2.2 and wait for the Dev Team to come up with a jailbreak method for 2.2, or you can try to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1.
I personally don't have this issue. I haven't updated to 2.2 but I figured that some of you guys may have, so I started looking for a solution to post here. The problem is there doesn't seem to be a solution that works for one main reason: 2.2 updates your baseband and once your baseband is updated, you can't downgrade it to 2.1 (not as yet anyway).
From what I read, only 2-3 people were actually able to get their iPhone back to 2.1 without issues but it is very unclear what they did exactly... Now let's have a look at these different methods that supposedly show you how to downgrade from iPhone firmware 2.2 to 2.1.

If you have Cydia, install Quickgold and Poof to unhide the iconsInstall SBSettings and unhide any apps that are hidden
Launch the Settings app and disable/reenable restrictions. Doing this should unhide all the hidden apps
If Cydia is hidden, you can use Apt-get and install Quickgold from the SSH prompt
Worst case scenario, if nothing works, you can use iPhoneBrowser and delete the files located at /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist and the reboot your phone

[digg-me]After playing with my kids iTouch's it became clear to me how much the iTouch is lacking in functionality. Before buying one I considered it just an iPhone without the ability to make calls. The lack of camera was the biggest surprise, because I can't figure out why they left it out. The GPS and Camera would have been really nice to have even if I can't use it as a phone.
So would it still be better to buy an iPhone and use it just like an iTouch but with camera and GPS? I found a thread on one of the iPhone forums where a guy, who was going to college and couldn't afford the $30.00 a month data plan, but wanted an iPhone anyway. He was on campus where they had a robust wifi connection all of the time and didn't really need the data plan. He already had an AT&T cell phone (a Razor), and just wanted to get a used iPhone and put his SIM card into it.
After giving the guy a hard time, a good samaritan responded with a way to do just that. He pointed out a cool service offered by unlockit. It is an APN Changer for 3G iPhones. It lets you turn off the Edge and 3G data service on your iPhone. This lets you use an AT&T SIM card with your iPhone but lets you use it without adding the iPhone data plan.
To use this service do the following:
Put the AT&T Sim card in the already activated iPhone. Make a wifi connection to a local wifi source. Navigate to this page. Click "Continue To The Next Page". Click Disable Data (Fake APN). The Install Profile window appears. Click Install. Another Install Profile window will popup warning you that authenticity of this profile cannot be verified. Click Install on this window too. You should now see a message stating "Could not activate Cellular Data Network; You are not subscribed to a cellular data service.You should now be able to make phone calls and be able to use wifi to access the internet. When you aren't connected, you should get an error.
To remove the 3G/Edge block, simply go to your Network settings and removed the Fake APN profile.

[digg-me]Clear, legible, and ordered, Helvetica was developed in 1957 at the Haas Foundry in Munchenstein, Switzerland. It gained immediate, worldwide acceptance among typographers and designer folk. Today it's everywhere. All over London and New York, on storefronts, street signs, subways, planes and trains, income tax forms, postboxes and BMWs, print and television ads, billboards, letterhead, everywhere. And there are no half-measures: designers either love it or hate it.
Helvetica is the default font on the iPhone and it kinda bores me so I chose to replace it with another font. I did some research online to find a way to replace the font on my iPhone and although I thought I would find many sites talking about it, I didn't...
However, I came across James is bored and found a way to replace Helvetica with a font called NeoTech. Note that this will not replace the font called Marker Felt, which is used for the iPhone's Note application (we'll get to this later).
How to replace the default iPhone font with NeoTech:
Download NeoTech Font iPhone 2.0 and extract it to your desktop Connect to the iPhone with iPhoneBrowser or WinSCP Navigate to the following folders on your iPhone and backup the following files, adding .bak at the end (this is just a precautionary measure, you don't ever wanna lose your original files) /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/Helvetica.ttf /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/HelveticaBold.ttf Copy the files you extracted in Step 1 in these same folders Restart your iPhoneThis hack doesn't replace the ugly Marker Felt font used for iPhone Notes though. I did a lot of research and didn't find any trick to replace this font. Before the 2.0 firmware, this workaround used to work but it doesn't work on 2.0 or 2.1. There is also another workaround to get Arial for your Notes but it's just a workaround... meaning that it's not a real fix to your problem as you have to manually change the Notes settings every time you create a new note.
Please let me know if any of you guys know how to permanently replace the Notes font. Thanks.
Most of the themes you have for WinterBoard often comes with a bunch of new cool icons, carrier images, logos, badges, etc... WinterBoard makes it very easy for you to customize your iPhone but sometimes I want to change one little icon and apply it to all my themes. So how do you do this? Well, you need to know the location of the icon or image inside your phone, SSH into the phone and "manually" change the file.
