unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release updated with initial support for tihmstar’s v3ntex exploit

Renowned hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd has issued a new revision to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release Friday morning; beta 28 is now the latest version available for public testing purposes.

In a Tweet shared just minutes ago by Pwn20wnd, we learn that unc0ver v3.0.0 beta 28 adds provisions for timstar’s iOS 12-centric v3ntex exploit; on the other hand, the tool only supports the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 with the v3ntex exploit at the time of this writing. Support for more devices will come later:

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd dropped the 27th revision to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release on Monday, and it's said to significantly improve the reliability of Brandon Azad’s voucher_swap exploit on supported iterations of iOS 12, including 12.0 through 12.1.2.

Pwn20wnd announced the revision via Twitter Monday morning, incorporating a link to the official GitHub repository where it can be downloaded:

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd appears to have been busy this weekend, revising the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release jailbreak tool at least five more times since Saturday afternoon. Betas 22-26 include the brand-new rootfs remount that surfaced yesterday afternoon compliments of hacker and software tinkerer @MiscMisty.

It was only yesterday that hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd added official support for tihmstar’s v1ntex exploit to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release, but another revision issued just this morning delivers some important v1ntex-related bug fixes and refinements.

Citing the changelog from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository, the 21st beta of the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release sports the following changes:

In what appears to be a pleasant surprise for the jailbreak community on Friday, hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd revised the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release to its 20th beta with official support for tihmstar’s voucher_swap-like v1ntex exploit.

It wasn’t too long ago that hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd released unc0ver v2.2.6 to the masses and dropped subsequent revisions to the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release for public testing, but Pwn20wnd is known for being quite the active developer and he appears to have revised the pre-release again since our last coverage with additional micro-updates.

According to the changelog published at Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository, betas 18 and 19 of the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release comprise of the ensuing changes:

Hot off the heels of adding rootlessJB 3.0-like partial support for iOS 12.0-12.1.2 into the unc0ver v3.0.0 pre-release, hacker and unc0ver lead developer has announced yet another revision to the tool Monday evening.

Talented hacker and software developer Jake James took the jailbreak community by surprise this weekend after releasing rootlessJB 3.0, a developer-focused rootless jailbreak tool for A9, A10, and A11 devices running iOS 12.0-12.1.2.

James announced the release of rootlessJB 3.0 via Twitter on Saturday, perhaps unsurprisingly stirring up quite of a bit of attention among his following:

Tihmstar releases v1ntex, a voucher_swap-like exploit for 4K devices (16K support coming soon)

Just a couple of days ago, security researcher Brandon Azad released his voucher_swap exploit for 16K devices (A9[X], A10[X], A11[X]), but the exploit didn’t support 4K devices (A7[X], A8[X]), resulting in some devices being unsupported by the recent updates to the Electra and unc0ver jailbreaks.

On a more positive note, hacking guru tihmstar seems to have a solution. Thursday morning, he Tweeted his version of the voucher_swap exploit, subtly named v1ntex. Astonishingly, the exploit supports 4K devices, whereas Brandon Azad’s exploit did not:

Despite the relatively small number of redecorations the Cydia app has received over the last several years, it continues to be a reliable package manager today. Fortunately, Saurik (Jay Freeman) empowered developers to tweak and modify the Cydia app under Cydia Substrate starting in 2015.
