Runtastic Pro, which normally sells for $4.99, has gone free exclusively through Apple's free Apple Store application for the iPhone and iPad (not to be confused with the App Store). The official Apple Store app is a sleek and awesome way to browse thousands of products carried on Apple's online and brick-and-mortar stores. It also offers exclusive deals: not just to Apple Store visitors, but to anyone who has downloaded the software to their device.

Case in point: last week, the gorgeous Rise Alarm Clock went free in the Apple Store software. This week, the app is offering Runtastic Pro free for a limited time. Again, this offer is exclusive to the Apple Store app: Runtastic Pro still costs money if you download it directly from the App Store. Autodesk’s SketchBook apps go free for the first time in Apple’s Free App of the Week promo

For the first time ever since debuting on the App Store back in the summer of 2013, a pair of excellent drawing and painting apps for the iPhone and iPad by Autodesk have gone free.

Both SketchBook Mobile — a professional-grade painting and drawing application designed for the iPhone and iPod touch — and SketchBook Pro for iPad— an authentic, natural drawing experience based on the same paint engine as its desktop counterpart — are available free of charge, for a limited time, courtesy of Apple's weekly Free App of the Week promo on the App Store.

That's a cool $7 saving right off the bat as SketchBook Pro normally sells for $4.99 and SketchBook Mobile is regularly $1.99...

Notifyr app goes free: receive iOS notifications on your Mac

Today seems to be the day for app discounts, as Apple is giving away Rise Alarm Clock, and now the developer of Notifyr, an app for receiving iPhone push notifications on your Mac, is giving his app away for free every other day for a week.

We first wrote about Notifyr on its launch back in May, and it took the tech community somewhat by surprise, as many thought Apple would remove it from the App Store per one of their many regulations. Regardless, it's been available for download at a $3.99 price tag up until today, as Notifyr has gone free for a limited time.

IGN names ‘The Walking Dead: Season 2’ its Free Game of the Month

IGN has named Telltale Game’s 'The Walking Dead: Season 2' it's Free Game of the Month for August. We named the game one of our ‘Apps of the Week' for the iPhone and iPad back in March, and it normally retails for $4.99.

Apple has named Hipstamatic's just-released video-capturing app Cinamatic its App of the Week for this week. This means that through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the title for both your iPhone and iPad, for free—a modest savings of $1.

For those unfamiliar with the app, it essentially does for videos what Hipstamatic does for photos. Users can record short clips, between 3-15 seconds, and turn them into short films. Tools like lighting filters and social sharing are just one tap away...

IGN has announced its Free Game of the Month for July to be OTTTD by SMG Studio, a tower defense game for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 6 or greater. The app, available for free with IGN's promo code, is currently priced at $2.99 (regularly $4.99) and holds a 4.5 star-rating in the App Store.

OTTTD — which stands for Over The Top Tower Defense — is a step above typical tower defense games, with features including dozens of enemy types, a 25-level storyline campaign, an endless mode, and much more...

Apple offering Xcode 6 beta for free on new Swift blog

Apple today launched a new blog on its developer portal for its Swift programming language. The company introduced the new language at WWDC last month, and it says this will be a way to keep devs up to date on its progress.
