Apple Stepped Up Their Game to Combat Jailbreaking in iOS 5

When Apple announced iOS 5 a few weeks ago, there was some speculation that its hundreds of new features would deter a lot of folks from jailbreaking . In fact, iOS 5 was thought by some to be a jailbreak killer.

While it doesn't look like the promise of new features has phased the jailbreak community, there are some things in iOS 5 that are troubling. The Dev Team recently posted a report on some things they are seeing in iOS 5 that are making them nervous...

iOS 5 Jailbreak Could Be the End of Pirated Apps

Stefan Esser, better known as i0n1c, is a prominent member of the jailbreak community. His untethered exploit was responsible for the jailbreak that lasted from iOS 4 to 4.3.3, and he has been contributing to the Dev Team for quite some time.

i0n1c's untethered jailbreak may have been killed in iOS 5, but he's got a new and very controversial idea for another iOS 5 jailbreak in the future: blocking access to pirated apps.

iOS 5 Beta 1 Tethered Jailbreak Now Available

RedSn0w, the popular jailbreak tool by the Dev Team, has been updated with support for a tethered jailbreak on the iOS 5 developer beta. It's been less than a week since Apple got iOS 5 Beta 1 into the hands of developers at WWDC and across the world, and a tethered jailbreak is already available.

The news was announced by Dev Team frontman, MuscleNerd, and version 0.9.8.b1 of RedSn0w is now available to download for those with access to the iOS 5 beta. To get the iOS 5 beta legally, you must have a registered developer account with Apple.

MyGreatFest Confirms P0sixninja as Speaker for London Event, MuscleNerd for USA

Things are shaping up very nicely for the world's first jailbreak and iDevice convention. MyGreatFest will hold its first gathering this September in London, U.K. for fellow geeks and the iDevice community.

Among other prominent speakers, like Jay "saurik" Freeman himself, the MyGrestFest team has managed to snag famed hacker and Chronic Dev Team member, Joshua Hill (P0sixninja) as a speaker for the upcoming event. The jailbreak and unlock wizard, MusceNerd, has also been confirmed as the keynote speaker for MyGreatFest's event next year in the United States.

iOS 4.3.3 Jailbreak Tools Updated to Address iPhone Vibration Issue

The iPhone Dev Team has just pushed out an update to its Redsn0w and PwnageTool jailbreak utilities for iOS 4.3.3. Redsn0w rc16 and PwnageTool 4.3.3.1 address the side vibration/ringer switch issue for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS owners. The bug is only present on iOS 4.3.3 jailbroken devices.

The bug fix was found by famous iPhone hacker @i0n1c and he doesn't even have an iPhone. For those of you that have already updated to iOS 4.3.3 and jailbroken your iDevice using redsn0w rc15 or PwnageTool 4.3.3, you can install this fix simply by running redsn0w rc16 over your existing 4.3.3 jailbreak. Just uncheck the “Install Cydia” option and check any other options you want. Simple as that...

Everything You Need to Know About iOS 4.3.3 Jailbreak

Apple released iOS 4.3.3 (4.2.8 for Verizon iPhones) last Wednesday, less than three weeks after the previous software update. The new firmware included a fix for the location tracking file that Apple has gotten into so much water over (is that considered Cider?).

Chances are, most of you didn't consider 4.3.3 big enough to update from 4.3.2. But with the Verizon iPad 2 problem fixed and the infamous tracking bug patched, we may not see another update until iOS 5 is released. If that's the case, then this will likely be the last jailbreak for several months, so why not update?

How to Jailbreak iPhone 4.3.3 with PwnageTool [Tutorial]

Three updates, and three jailbreaks using the same exploit; that's got to be some sort of record.

For those of you interested in preserving your baseband with this latest jailbreak, you're obviously going to want to stay away from RedSn0w.

PwnageTool is the jailbreak tool to use when you're interested in creating custom firmware, and most importantly, when you need to preserve an unlockable baseband. Even if your baseband isn't unlockable, you may want to preserve your baseband in case a future unlock is found.

The good news is, the choice is yours. Without further explaining, here is the tutorial that will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone running iOS 4.3.3 and preserve your baseband with PwnageTool...

UltraSn0w iPhone Unlock for iOS 4.3.3 Released

Just about 2 weeks after releasing the previous version, the Dev Team released today UltraSn0w 1.2.3, a software unlock for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Like its predecessor, this newer version of UltraSn0w doesn't unlock the latest basebands.

UltraSn0w will only work for the older iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00, and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 4.26.08, 5.11.07, 5.12.01, 5.13.04, and 6.15.00...

PwnageTool Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 Released

With the release of an updated iOS 4.3.3 untethered jailbreak, the Dev Team has also released an update to PwnageTool for Mac OSX users.

PwnageTool 4.3.3 incorporates i0n1c’s updated iOS 4.3.3 untethered exploit. PwnageTool 4.3.3 will allow you to safely restore to an already jailbroken iOS 4.3.3 firmware and preserve your current 1.59.00 baseband so that you may use UltraSn0w to unlock your iPhone…

RedSn0w Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 Released

It has been less than three days since iOS 4.3.3 was released by Apple and the iPhone Dev Team has already released an untethered jailbreak for the latest iOS firmware.

As we stated earlier this week, for some odd reason Apple still has not patched hacker i0n1c's untethered exploit in iOS 4.3.3. Redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 provides an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.3 for the iPhone 4 (GSM), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 1, and Apple TV 2G. This jailbreak does not support iPad 2 users.

The State of the iOS 4.3.2 Jailbreak

There are now several ways to jailbreak your iPhone running iOS 4.3.2. RedSn0w, PwnageTool, and Sn0wBreeze will all jailbreak the iPhone on 4.3.2.

4.3.2 hasn't been out for that long, but i0n1c's untethered exploit has already been implemented into three of the most popular jailbreak tools.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 4.3.2 with PwnageTool [Tutorial]

The Dev Team has updated the popular jailbreak tool, PwnageTool, with an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2. PwnageTool now joins RedSn0w and Sn0wbreeze as the third tool that can jailbreak iOS 4.3.2.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to use PwnageTool to jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.2 while also preserving your baseband. PwnageTool is for Mac OS X only and is the only way to preserve your baseband to make sure you can unlock later…
