Cydia news and information: read the latest development about Cydia, including jailbreak tweaks.

A Quick Look at the New Cydia

When Cydia acquired Rock a couple months ago, Saurik acknowledged that Cydia was in great need of a facelift, and said that Chpwn was actually working on it to make it look better. Things aren't going as fast as we'd want them to, but there is still some progress made by Chpwn.

MuscleNerd tweeted this screenshot of the new Cydia earlier. That was pretty exciting until I saw this tweet from Chpwn who basically said it was all they had done on the new Cydia for the time being...

Repurpose an Unused iDevice as a Media Server

Don't feel like shelling out the money for an iTV? Well if you have an old iDevice laying around, you don't have to! Introducing iPod Remote Controller and iPod Remote Server.

The iPod Remote Controller app is a two-trick app for jailbroken devices. It will access and control any iDevice that is running the iPod Remote Server. You can select songs, shuffle, and play the songs in an interface that closely resembles the iPod app for the iPhone. It will also allow you to connect via WiFi or Bluetooth for those who don't have a WiFi connection...

NotesFont brings iOS 4.2-esque Font Features to the iPhone Notes App

Although I'm not a developer, I have been able to play around extensively with iOS 4.2 on my iPad. Let me just reiterate the sentiments that it is indeed worth the hype. With new features like AirPlay, it's understandable that that ability to switch your fonts in the Notes app is playing second fiddle to all of the other enhancements.

Although iOS 4.2 is right around the corner, Apple has been one-upped with the release of the jailbreak tweak, NotesFont. Not only does this tweak bring the ability to change fonts in the native Notes app, it offers a lot more fonts than what Apple is planning to offer...

thRuler is Proof that iPhone Rulers Don’t Quite Measure Up

Just how useful can a ruler app be on the iPhone's 3-inch screen? Well, I guess it's pretty useful if you have an occupation requiring you to measuring a kitten's pinky toes. And who doesn't love measuring a kitten's pinky toes?

If you need to measure anything of significance though, you'll probably just want to stop being ridiculous and grab, you know, a real ruler...

More Info About the iOS 4.2 Jailbreak

With the release of iOS 4.2 just around the corner, everyone is wondering when and what kind of jailbreak we'll be getting. Even though LimeRa1n and GreenPois0n can't supposedly be patched without hardware modification, the risk of getting a tethered jailbreak still remains.

Comex brought up a bit of clarification about the iOS 4.2 jailbreak in a series of tweets. There is some good and some bad news...

Enable Photo Privacy with SwapCamRoll for iOS 4

Never mind the reasons why you want to hide some pictures, we're just telling you this jailbreak app makes it easier to do. SwapCamRoll is an app for iOS 4 that essentially gives you two camera rolls on your iPhone. Only one is active at a time while the inactive one hides on the "flip side", completely inaccessible on the phone until you activate SwapCamRoll. (You can navigate to either folder through SSH though).

So if you have some er, private pictures that you don't want others to see when they're scrolling through your photos, then you can create an entirely new camera roll that can be swapped out for the default. For some, it just might be the app you never knew you needed!

So how does it work? The app is pretty bare bones, but does have some options that may be confusing to new users. Read on for the breakdown:

MarkThatMessage is the Definition of Too Much Information

I've always loved the way text messaging worked on the iPhone, and that love was increased with the advent of the jailbreak app BiteSMS. That app added just enough customization to the mix to make SMS messaging a truly enjoyable experience on the iPhone.

Of course, there are also plenty of tweaks available for SMS messaging as well, some better than others. MarkThatMessage is one such tweak that falls into the others category. Is it really necessary to know the exact time that I sent every single SMS message?

MiddleWhat Makes it Easy To Enable FaceTime on Region Restricted Phones

A couple days ago, Sebastien reported on a hack called FaceTime Hacktivator, which is a tweak that allows you to use FaceTime in areas where it has been banned. There are reportedly a few places in the Middle East that have restricted Apple's video calling feature, so this will prove most useful to those using iPhones in those areas.

MiddleWhat does the same thing as FaceTime Hacktivator, with one small difference. I guess you could say it takes the "middle man" out of the equation. That is, it's featured on the stock Cydia repos, so there's no need to add a separate repository just to get access to this hack. Although, if you were too lazy to add the repo reported in yesterday's article, chances are you don't care that much about FaceTime anyway.

Scrobble iPhone Tracks to Last.fm in Real Time

To scrobble is the act of sending information of a currently playing track, or song, to Last.fm. Last.fm is a free service that recommends and suggests music by discovering new music based on the music you play. In short, it's a social network that focuses on music and artists only.

Like other social networks, you find and add friends in order to share your musical tastes with other people and to discover the musical tastes of friends...

Can’t Run APT-GET from SSH/MobileTerminal? Try this

After jailbreaking for 4.1, many of you will notice you can no longer run apt-get commands from the command line, whether SSH or MobileTerminal. This is mind boggling, and none of the support sites or forums seem to have the right answer. The most common suggested solution is to delete some sources from Cydia and re-add them. This doesn't work.

After a few hours of troubleshooting, I gave up and assumed it was a limitation of greenpois0n. However, today I accidentally found the answer, and it's quite simple to make this work again.

Jailbreak App Adds Extra Control Volume to Your App Switcher

This is a boring day for the jailbreak community. After checking out the somewhat useless EZDecline this morning, we're now having a quick look at App Switcher Volume, a new jailbreak application that adds a volume slider to the "now playing" bar of your app switcher.

That's all it does and really, for $0.99, I sure hope it does it well...

Does that look interesting enough to download?

This Jailbreak App Let’s You Easily Decline Phone Calls

EZDecline is a new jailbreak app that let's you easily decline phone calls. If your phone is locked and you receive a phone call, the only thing that will show on your screen is the "Slide to Answer" option. EZDecline tweaks that a bit by adding the buttons to "Decline" or "Answer".

Priced at $0.99, I don't find this mod much useful because this feature is already available under a different form on your iPhone...
