How to jailbreak iOS 6 with RedSn0w 0.9.15b1

As we reported a couple of days ago, RedSn0w 0.9.15b1 is now available to jailbreak A4 devices and below running iOS 6. This latest version is a pretty massive update with a lengthy change log, but the most important aspect about the update is the ability to jailbreak iOS 6 and install Cydia.

Previous iOS 6 jailbreaks required users to install Cydia manually, but the latest public version of RedSn0w works just as you might expect it would. Take a look inside for our full tutorial.

List of iOS 6 compatible jailbreak tweaks

Though iOS 6 hasn't been officially jailbroken yet, there is a developer hack available for users on older A4 devices. It's tethered, and requires you to manually install Cydia, so it's not something we really recommend. But it exists.

And because it exists, we decided to try and find out which of our favorite tweaks have been updated to support the new software. Luckily, we came across this list of iOS 6-ready tweaks by theme designer Adam Insull...

iPhone 5 jailbroken

It looks like Grant Paul, aka Chpwn, is in possession of a jailbroken iPhone 5.

We can't really say much more, other than the fact that he posted a screenshot of Cydia running on the iPhone 5 a few moments ago. More details of the exciting news inside...

Unfold 2.0 now available for free on Cydia

Lost amidst yesterday's well warranted hype for the iPhone 5, was the release of Unfold 2.0 — a jailbreak tweak available on Cydia.

Unfold 2.0 allows for an accordion unlock style, in either a horizontal or vertical direction. It can be had for free on Cydia's BigBoss repo. Watch the video, and let us know what you think.

TVLocker Pro puts your iPhone to sleep tube TV-style

Some folks like to jailbreak their devices to add more functionality, and some folks do it just to change the look and feel of them. And if you happen to fall in the second category, you might be interested in this.

TVLocker is a new jailbreak tweak that adds a bit of old-school flavor to the way you lock your iPhone or iPad. So instead of your device just fading to a black screen, you get a tube TV-style animation...

IconToggles adds useful shortcuts to your Home screen

As long as Apple keeps the system toggles buried in the Settings app in iOS, jailbreak developers will keep coming up with new shortcuts for users to access them.

The latest tweak to fall into this category is IconToggles. Similar to Usefullcons, the utility adds icons to your Spring board that act as shortcuts for Settings toggles...

ProgressPercent gives you the status of your app downloads

Allow me to introduce you fine folks to ProgressPercent. It's a new jailbreak tweak that displays a percentage indicator under the icon of the current app you're downloading, giving you a better idea of its status.

The tweak is invisible. Once you've installed it, you won't know it's there unless you are downloading an application, or pop into the Settings app. There's just one option here, and that's to disable it...

MissionBoard: a replacement app switcher for iOS

Replacement app switchers have long-since been a favorite for jailbreak developers. Because while Apple's own implementation is solid, it's pretty basic, and leaves a lot of room for improvement.

We've seen a number of these app switchers recently — tweaks like Imperium and Aero, to name a few. And today, we're adding another one to that list. Ladies and gentlemen, meet MissionBoard...

New DietBulletin tweak makes notification banners smaller

When iOS 5 launched last fall, it brought with it a slew of changes. Among those changes was an all-new notification system, which included a pull-down menu and new banner-style alerts.

Admittedly, the banners are a huge improvement over the popups. But there's still one problem: they're too big. And this can sometimes intrude on your work space. Enter DietBulletin...

BiteSMS update hits Cydia with new features (and new temporary price tag)

I have a love/hate relationship with BiteSMS. On the on hand, it's my most used application and I can't seem to find a decent replacement that offers as many features, but on the other hand, it's the only application that sometimes often causes my iPhone to crash.

I've tried to replace it many times but I always come back to it simply because its feature list has been unmatched so far. Today, BiteSMS gets that much better with version 6.3 now available in Cydia...

We’re giving away 10 copies of BrowseInApp

A little over a week ago we reviewed BrowseInApp, an extremely handy jailbreak tweak that allows you to open URL links in apps like Messages and Mail without ever having to switch to Safari.

If you liked the tweak, and haven't purchased it yet, you'll be happy to know that iDB has teamed up with the developer to give away 10 copies of BrowseInApp to our awesome readers...

BrowseInApp: open links in-app without switching to Safari

When the developer for BrowseInApp contacted us, asking us to do a review of the tweak, I was a bit skeptical. I hadn't tried it before, and I feel like I've tried most of the jailbreak packages out there that are worth trying.

But boy was I wrong. After playing with BrowseInApp for a couple of days, the tweak has quickly become one of my favorites. It's well-built, convenient, and integrates seamlessly into iOS. Keep reading for my full review...
