Apple responds to Businessweek’s Chinese hacking story

Earlier today, Oct. 4, Bloomberg Businessweek published a lengthy story about apparent hacking that took place against some of the biggest companies in the United States at the hands of China, including Apple and Amazon. The iPhone maker has now gone on record to discount much of what the story said.

Imagine buying a 2018 MacBook Pro only to find it can't be updated to the latest operating system, macOS Mojave. Instead, you receive a weird error message during the installation process. This issue is affecting various users who have posted messages about their woes in recent days on Apple's support forums, according to AppleInsider. 

Wi-Fi is adopting a simplified naming scheme based on version numbers

The various implementations of the ubiquitous Wi-Fi wireless protocol used to be denoted by inscrutable letters and numbers, like 802.11b, 802.11ac and so forth, confusing a lot of people who do not follow technology on a daily basis. But that's changing as Wi-Fi Alliance, the non-profit that manages the implementation of Wi-Fi, has now simplified the naming scheme by adopting comprehensible version numbers, such as Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6.

The new products Apple could announce this month

For those patiently awaiting the arrival of a new iPad Pro or next-generation Mac, the first nine months of 2018 have been disappointing. Except for the lightly updated MacBook Pro announced in July, Apple hasn't released any new products in either lineup this year. That could soon change, however.

Twitter brings data saver feature to iPhone app

Twitter's iPhone and iPad app on App Store was updated this morning with a new data-saver feature designed to minimize the app's cellular data consumption on the go. The company has been testing this feature in the iOS app since May of 2018, and now it's ready for prime time.
