Pixelmator 3.0 FX now available with Layer Styles, Liquify Tools and new Mavericks features

My favorite Photoshop Mac replacement, Pixelmator, has just received a massive 3.0 update. Now rechristened as Pixelmator FX to reflect the newly acquired capabilities, it brings the much needed Layer Styles and Liguify Tools, both building on top of the recent 2.2 update which dates back as recently as two weeks ago.

Pixelmator 3.0 also supports new features introduced in OS X Mavericks (a free upgrade) and introduces a new image editing engine which the team claims make Pixelmator "a top-quality, full-featured image editing app for the Mac”...

Apple updates Smart Covers and Cases for new iPads

Although there wasn't any mention of the rumored Surface-like keyboard cover at today's iPad event, Apple did announce updates for its current line of cases that will launch alongside the two new tablets.

Both the iPad Air and new iPad mini with Retina display will get a new set of Smart Covers and Smart Cases. The Covers, again, just cover the screen of the iPad, but the Cases offer wraparound protection...

Previous app versions coming to Mac App Store, too

A little over a month ago, Apple started letting customers download older versions of App Store apps. This handy new capability was designed to allow folks on legacy hardware to download the last compatible app version for their outdated iOS build. Up until then, the most recent app version available had used to render all of the previously submitted app builds inaccessible in the Mac App Store.

The same 'Previous Versions' feature is now coming to the Mac App Store, writes Apple in its memo to the registered Mac developer community, adding devs can now "let users download an older version” of their apps. I've got more information right below...

Relive every moment: you can now stream the iPad keynote from Apple’s website

Apple's iPad keynote video is now available for streaming straight from its website. It works on mobile or desktop, and through a web browser, but you'll need the QuickTime plug-in installed in order to enjoy the presentation on beige Windows boxes. If history is an indication, the clip should hit YouTube and iTunes in a couple days tops.

These feel-good clips featuring Apple execs like design guru Jony Ive also pop up on Apple's YouTube channel, though usually a few days following the event.

In my personal opinion, the iPad Air promo is definitely worth sharing and even though one can always stream this particular clip straight from Apple's website, I've decided to make a YouTube version for easy embedding, have a look below...
