How to Remove Cydia Ads

Sure ads in Cydia are the bread and butter of underground developers, but sometimes ads can just be a little too intrusive or overwhelming. Worse, it can alter the whole user experience by slowing down the performances of Cydia.

Our buddy over at FSM found a nice way to get rid of the ads in Cydia. If you want to increase Cydia's performance, this simple hack is for you.

SSH into your iDevice and browse to /Applications/Cydia/ and create two copies of package.js computer ( one is your backup and you will edit the other one ) . Inside that file search for var depiction = package.depiction .

Edit that line so that  depiction = package.depiction will become depiction = null .

Now save the file and copy it back to /Applications/Cydia/ , overwriting the original one. That’s it. Now restart Cydia and enjoy.

Pretty simple, isn't it? If you like this hack, make sure to thank @MurdaFSM on Twitter.

iPhone 3GS TV Ad “Copy and Paste” Is Stupid

I was watching TV yesterday night when I saw the Copy and Paste TV ad for the new iPhone 3GS. I had seen this ad many times before but it was the first time it stroke me how laughable this ad really is.

This is the new iPhone, and it lets you do some pretty incredible things... You can copy a phone number, and paste it in a text. You can copy an article, and paste it in an email...

What made me laugh is that they are using the copy/paste feature as a selling point. Of course this is a brand new feature for the iPhone, but you have to keep in mind that copy/paste has been available on all other smartphones forever. Besides, the copy/paste feature on the iPhone has nothing of revolutionary. If anything I think it is very clunky and intrusive. Yet Apple sells it as a technology breakthrough.

Then at the end of the ad comes the catchy phrase:

Copy and paste on the iPhone 3GS, the most powerful iPhone yet.

Well of course it's the most powerful iPhone yet; it's the latest one and there has only been 2 before that.

I think this ad is really deceiving.

What do you think of the latest iPhone ads? If you didn't have an iPhone yet, would they make you want to get one?

iPhone Apps From The TV Ads

I rarely visit the App Store but yesterday I wanted to check out new apps so I opened the App Store from my iPhone and I noticed that there was a new section in the store called iPhone Apps From TV Ads. I don't know how long it's been here but I thought it was a good idea.

I also think it's a great opportunity for the showcased applications to gain further exposure. I wonder how the applications that appear in ads are chosen. I guess it's a mix of top rated, staff pick, and randomness...

Anyway, so now when wonder what this app you see on TV is called, go to the App Store and look into the 'iPhone Apps From TV Ads" section and you'll find out.

New Apple iPhone Commercial “Read”

Apple has a new ad airing on TV called "Read". They use the same format/structure as usual, which makes this ad not really interesting. The moral of this ad? There is an app for everything!
