Unofficial iPhone 3.0 Beta 3 Jailbreak Available

Earlier this week, we talked about the new iPhone 3.0 Beta 3. It didn't take long to iPhone hackers to update an unofficial version of QuickPwn to jailbreak the new beta firmware.

As usual, this QuickPwn is not the official release by the Dev Team and using it might prevent you from ever being able to unlock your iPhone using YellowSn0w.

So far, this jailbreak only works with iPhone 2G, 3G and 1st gen iPod Touch. It's also worth noting that this version of QuickPwn will not install Cydia on your iPhone. Instead, it will install Icy, a Cydia "competitor".

I do not recommend using this jailbreak. As a matter of fact, I don't even recommend installing the 3.0 Beta as it is still a little unstable and will most likely prevent you from unlocking in the near future. That's just my opinion anyways and you are obviously free to do whatever you want.

You can download QuickPwn for 3.0 Beta 3 and read the QuickPwn tutorial for instructions.

Apple Rejects Peekababe: Too Sexy App

Apple has once again shown its inconsistency and its limit on creativity by rejecting the iPhone’s sexy new app Peekababe, as first discussed on Download Squad.

You can check out Peekababe on YouTube, and the only thing you see is that the user can take the clothes off the beautiful models to leave them in their seductive lingerie. You can also save these hot pics for your iPhone’s wallpaper.

Peekababe doesn’t have any kind of nude or pornographic pics. So why did Apple reject it??? An insider commented that Apple rejected the app for claims of excessive sexual content. Oh, so it’s not OK for Peekababe’s models to show some skin and their lingerie, but it’s OK to kill, dismember, and chainsaw a game character on the iPhone?!

A special thanks to Tom for sending this in :)

Annoying iPhone App Helps Me Have A Good Night Sleep In Costa Rica

For those of you who follow this blog, you already know that me and my fiance are in Costa Rica for a couple weeks. For those of you who don't follow the blog, well, now you know...

Costa Rica is a brautiful country. It's very green, even though it is currently the dry season. Animals here are nothing you are familiar with if like me, you live in the States. The most common animal in Costa Rica is the iguana. They are everywhere. Another animal that you see less often than you hear is the howling monkey.

Howling monkeys are little monkeys that kinda look cute when you see them laying down on the branch of a tree but God knows how annoying they are at night.

So Tina and I are staying in nice little cabins in Manuel Antonio. The cabins are pretty much on the beach, a few trees surrounding us. In brief, it's a paradisiac place.

The problem comes at night when the monkeys start howling. It is such a lound noise that it will wake you up. Howler monkeys are actually considered the loudest land animal. Tina is a real positive person. She always see the good side of things. So when the monkeys started howling in the middle of the night, she said to me I should embrace the howling instead of just going nuts as I was.

Freaking out on things is just the way I operate. I am working on it but I still have much progress to make... So it's about 3am and the monkeys are howling like crazy. I am in the room, looking throught the window trying to figure out where they are. It's dark out so I can't see anything. I am so freaking pissed at these monkeys that prevent me from having a good night sleep after such an exhausting surfing day.

Then all the sudden, I have a brilliant idea. I grab my iPhone and launch the most annoying app known to man: Sound Grenade. It annoys everyone I know in less than 10 seconds, so maybe it's gonna work on these monkeys.

Right on!!! I started the annoying sound right in the middle of a howl and the monkey stopped right away. I then opened the door to get closer to them and I heard 2 or 3 of them moving from tree to tree. Mission accomplished! The monkeys moved to another area. I could still hear them but they were very far away and the sound was much more bearable. I went back to sleep and had a peaceful night.

It's a very stupid story but I am so glad I had this the Sound Grenade app with me.

Do you have any story about how an iPhone app saved your butt? If so, share it with us in the comments :)

Gone Surfing!

Hey everyone, I wanted to write a quick post to let you know why the blog hasn't been updated for quite a while. Me and my fiance are in Costa Rica for a couple weeks and the internet connection is very limited here. Today is actually the first time I found a reliable internet connection that can get me on Gmail in less than 10 minutes... Yeahh!!!

So, for those who care, we have started a blog called Traveling Puffins where we try to tell some of our travel stories. We're in Costa Rica for the wedding of my friend Michael, but most importantly, we're here for surfing!

The water is warm, the waves are good, and the beer is cold ;)

I really want to apologize for my lack of posting but I'm sure you understand the situation.

I checked my RSS feed reader and I have 774 articles in there I haven't read yet... I'll have some serious catch up to do when I get back...

Alright friends, time to go back.

Pura vida!

Find Relevant Landmarks Near You With Landmark Finder

The following is a guest post by Mike Damian from midVentures.com, a Chicago-based tech firm who developed the Landmark Finder app for iPhone.

How often do you find yourself with time to kill and nothing to do? How would you like to take your friends and loved-ones on a memorable weekend getaway without spending lots of money?

Landmark Finder is an app that geo-locates your iPhones position and displays relevant landmarks on a Google map or list form. We use Landmark Finder all the time to:

See where famous people lived Discover where important battles were fought See where championship teams played Experience where natural disasters took place Discover great works of architecture, interesting neighborhoods, and exciting infrastructure! Marvel in exotic parks Witness Engineering marvels Learn about museums, parks, and hotels to spend the night

Landmark Finder covers the entire US including: New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Austin, Philadelphia, Orlando, Miami, San Francisco, San Jose, Detroit, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, and many more cities!

Landmark Finder is perfect for weekend getaways, layovers at airports, people who often take business trips, who knows, you might even learn something about the city you live in!

We also plan on aggressively updating the app with social bookmarking features, the ability for people to add landmarks and have the crowds approve them, and other social features when iPhone OS3 comes out.

Landmark Finder is available from the App Store for $0.99, so think about checking it out, and keep your eyes peeled for a feature-rich update in the future.

CyDelete Uninstalls Cydia Apps Directly From Your SpringBoard

CyDelete is a new application available in Cydia that aims at making your Cydia apps uninstall a breeze. Currently, deleting a Cydia application from your springboard is a 7 step pain in the ass: start Cydia > Manage > Packages > Look for the package > Modify > Remove > Confirm.

By installing CyDelete, you won't have to go through this process anymore and you'll be able to uninstall Cydia apps just as easily as you delete App Store apps. Simply hold down the icon, wait for them to start wiggling, and tap the X.

CyDelete is still in beta so it might crash on you every once in a while, but so far, it's worked perfectly for me.

How do you like this new app?

My New Favorite Site To Browse App Store Applications

I would like to introduce you to a great site I found to browse App Store applications. It's called www.AppChimp.com and it is the closest thing to an online version of the official Apple App Store. You may think that after AppShopper, 148Apps, and other similar sites, there is no more room for one more online App Store... Well, you are wrong because App Chimp comes with features that these other sites are missing!

The main reason why I like App Chimp is because it is very similar to browsing the App Store. When you get on the homepage of this online App Store, you are presented with easy to browse sections: categories, latest price drops, high rated apps, top free apps, and top paid applications.

My favorite feature of all has to be the search function which is very powerful. You can browse applications by price range, and you can sort the results by price, by date (date added in the store), and by rating. You can also turn on the "Price Drop Filter" to only show applications that are currently on sale.

Do yourself a favor and try out this App Chimp online App Store and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

iPhone 3.0 Recap – Everything you need to know is here

It's been pretty crazy for us since iPhone 3.0 was unveiled yesterday and we've been blogging and testing like mad men! But hey, we're not complaining; it's all we love...

We've written several posts about the new iPhone 3.0 within the last 24 hours and I thought it would be nice to do a little recap of everything that's been said. This post is aimed at making it easier for you to browse through what we wrote about 3.0 so you can access the information you're looking for more quickly.

iPhone 3.0 roundup: a summary of the most important new features of OS 3.0 (MMS, copy/paste, push notifications, etc...) iPhone 3.0 let downs: 3.0 sure is great, but it's still missing a lot of features that most smartphones already have iPhone 3.0 event video: the full video of the event iPhone 3.0 jailbreak: believe it or not but firmware 3.0 can be jailbroken undocumented iPhone 3.0 features: some new features that haven't been documented, and some that have exclusive iPhone 3.0 hands on: we got our hands on 3.0, and we're sharing it with you... screenshots included! iPhone 3.0 speed test: see how the beta 3.0 compares to 2.2.1

We're most likely gonna write a little more about 3.0 within the next few days and we'll update this post as the news come.

iPhone 3.0 Jailbreak Confirmed

UPDATE -  iPhone 3.0 jailbreak and unlock tutorials now available:

Jailbreak iPhone 3.0 using PwnageTool for Mac Unlock iPhone 3.0 using PwnageTool for Mac Jailbreak iPhone 3.0 using RedSn0w for Windows Unlock iPhone 3.0 using RedSn0w for Windows

That was quick! Apparently the Dev Team already got a hold of the new iPhone 3.0 SDK and confirmed that you will be able to jailbreak iPhone firmware 3.0 when it's available.

With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers.  If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW.  You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices.   It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.

Translation: if you have any interest in preserving your ability to use YellowSn0w, wait for the GO from the Dev Team to update to 3.0!

iPhone OS 3.0 Event Video

Today Apple unveiled details about the iPhone OS 3.0 software and released the new iPhone Software Development Kit for developers.

You can either read my summary (and my complaints) of the event and/or watch the full video on Apple's website if you feel like it.
