How to Create Text Shortcuts in iOS 5

One of my all-time favorite jailbreak tweaks is Xpandr, a simple tool that lets you create a library of shortcuts for snippets of text that you use frequently, such as addresses, URLs, and standard replies.

There is no jailbreak for iOS 5 yet, which means no Xpandr for me. Fortunately, Apple has implemented this very same feature in iOS 5. This is how it works...

A Week Later: My iPhone 4S Review

I know I'm late to the whole iPhone 4S review thing, but to be honest, I never really understood how you could give a good review of a device after using it for two days – that's why I take my time. I've been waiting for over a year for this new device so I really didn't want to rush into a quick review without having fully used it for an extended period of time.

Now that I have been able to play around with virtually every feature of the new iPhone 4S, I think it's time for my late review. There is some good, some bad, and yes, some ugly…

RedSn0w Jailbreak Gets Much Faster

One of the biggest complains people have about RedSn0w is how long it takes to go through the jailbreaking process. This is due to the fact that RedSn0w spends a lot of time "stashing" applications on your device.

Due to the demand for a faster tool, the Dev Team announced today that they have made the RedSn0w jailbreak process 60% faster by releasing version 0.9.9 beta 7. But it's not without a caveat...

Facebook Messenger Now Available Everywhere

Facebook Messenger has quickly become one of my favorite apps for the iPhone. Before Apple released iOS 5 and iMessage to the public, Facebook Messenger was my client of choice to communicate with my friends scattered around the world.

The problem was that most of my friends overseas couldn't use the application. It seems that this is not an issue anymore, as Facebook has brought support for 12 additional languages, and is releasing the app in many more countries...

How Apple Improved the iPhone 4S Location Feature

Right before Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S on October 4th, The Next Web published a story where they claimed the new iPhone would have "more definitive GPS features." Turns out they were right, even though it hasn't been officially confirmed.

I don't know if you've noticed, but location services on the iPhone 4S are sharper than ever. That's because Apple added support for some Russian technology to the mix...

Apple Releases Apple TV 4.4.1 Update… Again

Yesterday we reported that Apple had released iOS 4.4.1 for the Apple TV. Unfortunately, minutes after pushing the update, many users reported that the new software was actually "bricking" their device, which let Apple to pull the plug and stop the release of 4.4.1.

It seems that Apple has fixed the issue and has started pushing iOS 4.4.1 for Apple TV again late last night...

List of iOS 5 Compatible Jailbreak Tweaks

With a jailbreak available for iOS 5, many of you have been asking us to publish a list of jailbreak tweaks that are compatible with Apple's latest mobile operating system.

So, instead of reinventing the wheel, we dug around the internet and found a user-generated list of jailbreak apps and tweaks that do work with iOS 5...

You can also edit the list via Google Docs, if necessary.

Samsung Uses iOS Screenshot in Promotional Image

Oh Samsung! You're making this easier and easier to call you out on your plagiarism of Apple products.

We've seen our fair share of images showing how Samsung goes out of its way to become an Apple copycat, but this one might be the most interesting. After adding Apple's App Store app icons to its own company stores, Samsung is now using screenshots of the iOS Maps app into promotional documents...
