Today at WWDC 2020, all new upgrades were announced for macOS, including the ability to download and install iOS and iPadOS apps on upcoming machines featuring ARM SoC architecture. On stage at WWDC 2020, Apple senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi announced updates to iOS 14. The new software will bring advancements to the handheld device, including Home screen widgets for the very first time. As with all new versions, iOS 14 wallpapers for iPhone and iPad are included in the release. We have the six different versions ready for download today, without needing to install the developer beta to your device.

How to turn your old MacBook into a glowing light

I was not always such an Apple fanatic, but using my early 2008 15-inch MacBook Pro was a first-time conversion experience. In honor of that, I could not convince myself to ship off the device to e-waste. Holding a special place in my tech heart, I wanted a way to immortalize my shift to Apple fanboy status, which ultimately lead both my personal and professional career in a different direction.

Taking the LCD panel out of the monitor shell and unhinging the keyboard allowed for a permanent ambient glowing Apple logo for my office, which is HomeKit controlled. I call it the MacBook Lamp.

Sonos S2 operating system upgrade, for compatible speakers only

Sonos' wireless speaker system is receiving the Sonos S2 operating system update this month. It will bring "new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward... to enable higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater." But, not all Sonos products will receive the benefit. More concerning, if you have a collection of mixed compatible speakers, you may need two apps to enjoy your hardware.

I am finally overcoming my iCloud Photos fears

Since the dawn of iCloud Photo Library and the ability to store an entire set of photos in the cloud, I avoided giving up local control of my images. I think this fear spawned from a switch to Apple Music, when my local music library got mashed up with cloud music and ultimately led to essentially losing track of my actual song files in a series of computer hardware upgrades. With some encouraging, I stepped into iCloud Photos and I'm quickly loving it, but it was a little daunting.
