For fans of James Bond, especially the character as played by Daniel Craig, then the good news is that the latest feature film installment is still scheduled to release in theaters later this year after a lengthy delay. And it turns out Apple wants to get in on the fun, too. Apple seeds sixth beta of macOS 12 Monterey to developers

macOS Monterey beta

The march towards a public release of macOS 12 Monterey continues. And, of course, the wide release of the other major software updates. And to get there, we must stay on the beta seed train.

Today, Apple has seeded the sixth beta of macOS 12 Monterey to developers. While this is obviously late in the beta process, it's still worth saying that downloading and installing the prerelease software still shouldn't be done on your primary computer. It's possible the software is still a little rough around the edges as Apple continues to tweak the formula ahead of a public launch later this year. What's more, this is the developer beta, so it's meant for registered developers.

Instagram will now require users share their date of birth to use the service

In an effort to make its platform a generally safer place for its younger users, the Facebook-owned Instagram has confirmed a relatively big change for the service moving forward. The social network has confirmed that it will require a bit of information for its users if they want to continue to use the service.

Today, Instagram confirmed that, moving forward, users will need to provide their date of birth if they want to keep using the photo- and video-sharing platform. The company is now asking users for the information if they haven't already shared it. The company says the change will "create safer, more private experiences for young people."

Apple acquires Primephonic, a classical music streaming service

Apple is known to acquire companies from time to time, and sometimes some of those acquisitions are big enough to warrant a press release from Apple itself. Today marks one of those days. The company has sent out a press release officially announcing that it has acquired a new music streaming service, which will only bolster the catalog of Apple Music itself.

South Korea delays voting on bill that stops Apple and Google from forcing developers to use each store’s in-app purchase system

Last week, we reported that the South Korean government was looking to vote on the Telecommunications Business Act, a bill that includes an amendment that aims to force Apple and Google to make some sweeping changes to their digital storefronts. In South Korea the bill is known in short-hand as the "anti-Google bill," but obviously a lot of the focus is more on Apple's App Store. Generally speaking, though, the South Korean government believes this bill should help reign in any company with a monopolistic, or dominant, market position.

Even if Apple’s forced to change App Store rules, will you keep using it the same way you do now?

Some people believe it's a negative that Apple controls so much of the iPhone experience. Some of those people would point to the Mac and say, "See? They don't have to have such a heavy-handed approach" and maybe they're onto something. But a lot of folks out there don't see it the same way, calling Apple's "guiding hand" just one less thing they need to think about on a day-to-day basis.
