Apple updates iBookstore for authors with larger in-book images and more

Apple sent out an email to authors and publishers last night, announcing that it has updated the iBookstore with a number of backend improvements including versioning support and increased pixels limits for book images.

Evernote and Adonit introduce new fine-point Bluetooth stylus

Evernote and accessory-maker Adonit announced today that they have teamed up to create a new Bluetooth stylus called the Jot Script Evernote Stylus. With its fine 1.9mm tip, it's supposedly noticeably more accurate than capacitive styli.

The digital pen uses Adonit’s newly-developed Pixelpoint technology, which utilizes a combination of the device's built-in accelerometer, Bluetooth, and Adonit’s frameworks to communicate the location of the stylus tip to compatible apps...

Apple has raised $65 million for (Product) RED charity

Apple has raised more than $65 million for the (Product) RED organization—a charity spearheaded by U2 frontman Bono that aims to fight preventable and treatable diseases like AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

(Product) RED is unique, in that it raises money by licensing out its brand to partners like Nike and Starbucks, in return for a percentage of their sales. Apple, for its part, has been selling RED products since 2006...

AT&T launches LTE in 9 new cities, now in over 400 markets nationwide

AT&T iPhone and iPad customers will be happy to hear that the carrier has rolled out LTE to 9 brand new markets this week. The 4G tech allows for download speeds of up to 10x that of the average 3G network.

Folks with an AT&T smartphone or other LTE-flavored device should notice substantially faster download speeds in the new markets, which include cities in Texas, Washington and Nevada. Full list after the fold...

Apple TV updated with Major League Soccer and Disney Junior channels

It's incredible how different the Apple TV's main menu looks compared to a year ago. There's so many more channels. Just in the last 6 months Apple has added a ton of content including WatchESPN, SkyNews, and more.

Workaround allows Touch ID to recognize more than 5 fingerprints

One of the features of Touch ID is the ability to capture and save up to 5 different fingerprints. This not only allows you to unlock your iPhone with both of your hands, but it also allows you to give multiple users access.

Try to save a sixth fingerprint, however, and you'll find you're unable to—the option to add a new fingerprint gets disabled after 5 saves. That is, unless you use this little workaround to register multiple prints to each save...

AT&T announces Pebble partnership, will start selling smartwatch Friday

Despite all of its missteps following its record-breaking Kickstarter run, Pebble has done quite well for itself post-crowd-funding. In addition to landing a retail deal with Best Buy, it announced in July that it had surpassed 275k pre-orders.

Amazon introduces new Kindle Fire HDX tablets

Amazon today unveiled a slew of new tablets, all based around its third generation Kindle Fire: the Kindle Fire HDX. As before, there's a 7-inch model, an 8.9-inch model, and both of them come in Wi-Fi-only and 4G configurations.

Following user backlash, Realmac Software reinstates original ‘Clear’ app

Realmac Software has decided to reverse course, and reinstate its original 'Clear' todo list app to sell alongside its all-new universal app it released for iOS 7. It originally planned to discontinue the iPhone-only app.

But that plan has obviously changed over the last week or so, following user backlash. Original Clear purchasers were upset they'd have to pay again for the app, despite the fact that they didn't need an iPad version...

EA denies reports that Apple paid to delay Android version of Plants vs. Zombies 2

Electronic Arts-owned studio PopCap released the highly anticipated sequel to its popular Plants vs. Zombies game on the 16th of August, and it only took them two weeks to rack up a staggering 25 million downloads.
