Apple relaxing water damage restrictions for iPhone trade-ins this week

Do you have an old iPhone that has suffered light water damage, but still works just fine? Looking to trade it in towards the purchase of a newer model? Well up until now, you couldn't do that at an Apple Store. But that might be changing soon.

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, Apple will be relaxing its water damage restrictions for iPhone trade-ins this week. The site says that the trade-in value for handsets will no longer be affected by the device's Liquid Contact Indicators...

Report offers closer look at Apple’s renewable energy plant in North Carolina

Apple releases iOS 7.1 beta to developers: here is what’s new

Apple has released the first beta of iOS 7.1 to registered developers this afternoon. The update, which carries the build number 11D5099e, can be downloaded via Apple's developer center.

Today's release comes just one week after Apple issued iOS 7.0.4 to the public, which included a fix for FaceTime, and marks the beginning of developer testing for the next major iOS update...

Appeals court gives Apple another chance to ban Samsung devices

The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has vacated Judge Lucy Koh's earlier denial of Apple's request to ban 26 Samsung devices that infringed on its patent. The move will give Apple another chance to permanently halt the sales of these devices in the US.

Now the issue will be sent back to Koh's court, where Apple's lawyers will no longer have to prove that the patented features in Samsung's products were the sole reason for driving sales, but only that there is some connection between the features and demand for Samsung devices...

Apple reportedly purchases PrimeSense, the 3D sensor tech company behind the original Microsoft Kinect technology

Apple has reportedly purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli-based 3D sensor technology company, for $345 million. Rumors of the acquisition surfaced earlier this year, but Israeli news outlet Calcalist says the deal is now done, and Apple plans to announce it within the next few weeks.

PrimeSense is best known to most folks for its work with Microsoft, who used its technology, chips, and designs inside the first Kinect sensor for the Xbox 360. But the company sells its own 3D sensors and software for use in other markets such as as TV, mobile, retail, and robotics...

Apple implementing iBeacon tech in retail stores to assist with sales and services

Apple is working to implement its new iBeacon technology into its retail stores, according to a new report from 9to5Mac. The tech, which is new to iOS 7, can pinpoint a device's location within a few feet using low energy Bluetooth.

The iBeacon system will initially help Apple with sales, offering up pricing and information on products simply by a user walking up to them. And later it will be used to assist with services such as workshops and Genius appointments...
