Apple releases iTunes 11.2.1 to fix hidden /Users folder in OS X 10.9.3

Apple tonight released a minor update for its iTunes desktop client, bringing the app to version 11.2.1. The update doesn't appear to offer up any new features, but it does seem to fix the hidden /Users folder bug.

Following yesterday's release of OS X 10.9.3, some users complained that their /Users folder had disappeared. We passed along a simple workaround for the bug earlier today, but now an official fix is available...

Apple being sued over long-standing iMessage issue

A former iPhone user has filed a lawsuit against Apple over a long-standing iMessage issue. The complaint was filed yesterday in San Jose, California by Adrienne Moore, who says the company's messaging system is interfering with text messaging on her new Android phone.

This issue has affected a number of former iPhone owners, who have switched to Android or another device. The problem is that when a person switches handsets, other iPhones still associate that phone number with iMessage, thus hampering their ability to text message...

MOG founder suing Beats for more than $20 million

As Apple moves closer to finalizing its Beats acquisition deal, a new report is out on a recently-filed lawsuit against the headphone-maker. The plaintiff is David Hyman, founder of music service MOG (now Beats Music), and he feels that Beats owes him a lot of money.

In the suit, shared by The Wrap, Hyman claims that he was offered a stout compensation package when Beats purchased his company and made him the CEO of Beats Music, which he never received. So now he's suing the firm for at least $20 million plus interest...

EFF report praises Apple for efforts to protect consumer data

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (or EFF) issued a new report this week entitled 'Who Has Your Back.' The document discusses major tech companies and their user privacy policies, and ranks them on transparency and other categories.

Interestingly enough, Apple was one of nine tech firms awarded a perfect score by the EFF. The Cupertino company received a star in each of the 6 categories, for a total of 6 stars—a remarkable improvement over its 1-star rating just last year...

Instagram update removes option to share likes and activity to Facebook

Instagram updated its iOS client last night, bringing the app to version 5.0.11. The update is small—the change log only mentions one alteration—but significant, as it takes away the auto-sharing of activity to Facebook.

More specifically, users will now only be able to share images deliberately to Facebook using the in-app share button. So the change should go a long way in decluttering News Feeds, a common complaint amongst users...

For those unfamiliar with Kayak, it's considered by many to be the top mobile travel app. It essentially works as a search engine for hundreds of travel sites, allowing you to compare prices for things like flights, cars and hotels, as well as book them...

Canalys: 34% of smartphones sold last quarter had displays larger than 5-inches

This fall, Apple is rumored to unveil not one, but two new iPhones: one with a 4.7-inch display, and a larger 5.5-inch model. The move doesn't really echo the company's previous handset strategy, but it's not hard to see why it would make sense.

When it comes to smartphone displays, big is in. According to a new report from Canalys, sales of smartphones with displays 5-inches or larger grew 369% last quarter, and they accounted for more than 1/3 of all smartphones sold worldwide...

Apple’s Beats acquisition may not be finalized until next week

Following the flurry of reports late last week regarding Apple's plan to acquire Beats Electronics, a lot of folks expected the iPad-maker to comment on the matter after the long weekend. But Monday came, and went, without a single word from Cupertino.

As it turns out, that may be because it isn't a done deal yet. Citing people familiar with the transaction, Recode's Peter Kafka is reporting that Apple's Beats acquisition is taking longer than originally expected, and it may not be finalized until next week...
