Apple’s free app of the week: Perchang

Apple on Thursday updated its App of the Week promotion with the game Perchang. This means that for the next 7 days, you'll be able to download the popular puzzler for free on both iPhone and iPad—a solid savings of $2.

Perchang is kind of a cross between pinball and a physics puzzler that exercises your brain and tests your coordination. Use flippers, magnets, portals, fans and other gizmos to guide tiny marbles to their goal to win each level.

7 USB-C cables you might need for your new MacBook Pro

There's a lot to love about Apple's new MacBook Pros. They're sleeker, smaller, have a larger trackpad and better speakers, and feature all-new USB-C ports. Unfortunately, these new ports also mean you're probably going to need to purchase some new cables.

Want to plug in your iPhone? You'll need a new cable. Connect your MacBook Pro to a non-Thunderbolt display? Yep, cable. You get the idea. So with this in mind, we decided to put together a list of some of the common cables you're probably going to need.

Refurbished iPhones now available on Apple’s website

Apple on Tuesday updated its online store to include refurbished iPhones. It's currently offering a handful of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models in a variety of color and storage combinations for 15% off.

The company has long sold refurbished Mac hardware and other products online, but this is the first time in recent memory it has offered handsets. I believe it did this briefly in the early iPhone days.

A quick look at Apple’s new TV app

Apple released the second betas of iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1 on Monday and in them, it included its new TV app. The company introduced the new app at its 'hello again' Mac event last month, saying they believe it's going to "completely change how you watch TV."

TV is essentially a television guide that helps you find and discover available content. So after using Single Sign-On to login with your cable credentials, the app will populate with movies, TV shows and live events, with a focus on stuff you might be interested in.

Beta 2 comes one week after the first beta was released, which revealed a number of user-facing changes and improvements like new wallpaper and emoji. Today's beta adds onto that with Apple's new TV app.

Indian government to purchase Cellebrite tech to bypass locked iPhones

India’s premier forensic institute The Forensic Science Laboratory is buying Cellebrite's tech that enables it to bypass locked iPhones, reports The Economic Times. The Israeli company made headlines earlier this year when it was reportedly sought out by the FBI to help it access the locked San Bernardino iPhone.

It's unclear how much the FSL is paying for the technology, or what the deal will mean for other countries and organizations. The Times, however, has a quote from an FSL source saying they believe the move will make it the global go-to place for law enforcement agencies seeking to unlock highsecurity devices.

In a statement sent to several publications, the company said that it recognizes many users still rely on legacy connectors to get work done, and it wants to help them move to the latest technology.

Neil Young music returns to Apple Music and other streaming services

Neil Young's full back catalogue has returned to Apple Music, Spotify and other streaming services, reports Music Ally. Young had removed his music from all streaming services back in July of 2015, telling fans it wasn't about the money, but rather the sound quality. "I don’t need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution."
