How to switch to the selfie camera using iPhone Camera Control

One of the things the Camera Control button can do is switch between front and rear cameras by a combination of double-press and swipe gestures. If you’ve never tried it out, we’ll show you how to do that.

Switching to the front and rear camera takes just one tap of the circular arrow button on the camera viewfinder screen. However, if you frequently use the Camera Control button and have become accustomed to it, you’ll be pleased to know that it can also be used to access the selfie camera.

Note that Camera Control is available on iPhone 16 series (except iPhone 16e), the latest 17 series, and the thin iPhone Air. The steps here are updated for iOS 26.

Turn on the necessary settings

Ensure the following Camera Control settings are in order before using this button to switch between your camera lenses.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap Camera > Camera Control.
  2. Turn on “Camera Adjustments” if it’s off and tap Customize.
  3. Enable Light Press and Swipe gestures. Then, make sure the “Cameras” option is checked.

Tip: You can uncheck some controls in the above step that you don’t use, like Exposure or Tone, to simplify the Camera Control menu and reach the meaningful options with less swiping.

Switch to the front camera using Camera Control

Follow these steps to move between the front camera and various zoom modes of the rear camera using the dedicated Camera Control switch:

  1. Open the camera on your iPhone.
  2. Double-press the Camera Control button, and it will show the controls pane. Swipe with one finger on the Camera Control button to select the CAMERAS option, and click/press once to enter it.
  3. Swipe again to select the selfie mode. Choosing other zoom modes, such as 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x, etc., switches you to the rear camera.
Switching to front camera using iPhone Camera Control button

As you can see, switching to the front camera using the Camera Control button is significantly more complicated and inconvenient.

Thankfully, you’re not obligated to use this, and tap the usual camera switcher button on the screen, which is conveniently placed near the right edge of the Apple Camera app. But if you like the Camera Control feature, the above tip is for you.

In case Camera Control doesn’t work on your iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Accessibility and make sure Camera Control is on.
