Jellyfish Reborn revives a popular Lock Screen concept for jailbroken iOS 16 devices

Remember back in 2019 when iOS developers Justin Proulx and Ayden Panhuyzen came out with the Jellyfish jailbreak tweak to give the iPhone a redesigned Lock Screen inspired by the Motion Apple Watch face?

Jellyfish took off in popularity, but if you were using a recent jailbreak for iOS or iPadOS 16 such as palera1n or Dopamine and you wanted this functionality, then you would have been out of luck until just last night when iOS developer Donato Fiore published Jellyfish Reborn.

Just as the name implies, Jellyfish Reborn is the modern reincarnation of the popular Jellyfish jailbreak tweak, and it offers similar aesthetics with the ability to customize individual features of the Lock Screen.

As you can see in the many screenshot examples, Jellyfish Reborn gives you customizable placement of the Lock Screen’s text, adds weather information, and even lets you personalize the text.

According to the /r/jailbreak release post, Jellyfish Reborn lets users customize the features on the Lock Screen. You’ll find those options in the dedicated preference pane in the Settings app after installation:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Jellyfish Reborn on or off on demand
  • Choose between left, center, or right alignment
  • Choose between fun-sized, lighter, normal, thick, or mod thick text thicknesses
  • Enable or disable dynamic colors
  • Choose your own time color
  • Choose your own date color
  • Adjust text size via slider
  • Hide or show weather information
  • Hide or show weather icon
  • Use a custom date format
  • Enter a custom date format
  • Enable date before time
  • Hide the padlock icon
  • Tint the padlock icon
  • Import settings
  • Export settings
  • And more…

As for compatibility, Jellyfish Reborn includes full compatibility for iOS & iPadOS 16 — the firmware that Apple introduced back in 2022 with the groundbreaking new Lock Screen customization options right out of the box. So it’s easy to see why a new jailbreak tweak was required, as the old Jellyfish tweak was intended for Lock Screens on older firmware.

If you’re interested in leveling up your handset’s Lock Screen, then we would recommend giving Jellyfish Reborn a try. It’s available for $1.99 from the Havoc repository via any package manager app and is only intended for jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 16 devices. Those running older firmware should look to the original Jellyfish jailbreak tweak instead.
