Focusing on photo quality images, the iDB Wallpapers of the Week provides new downloads every single Sunday. Today’s colorful collection utilizes an old, Apple typeface as inspiration for the curves in these “Glassy” backgrounds.
Glassy wallpapers pack
As one can expect from Basic Apple Guy, careful and thoughtful creativity brings to life this incredible wallpaper pack. In his article announcing the downloads, he explains the inspiration comes from:
using Motter Tektura, an old typeface Apple used in the late 1970s and into the 1980s (fun fact: the ‘bite’ in Apple’s logo was designed to match the curvature of this typeface’s lowercase a). I had toyed with creating a wallpaper using this old typeface and tried to give it a fun retro flair.
I think we can all agree he accomplished his creative goals for the canvas he treated as a playground.
Taking the “apple” logo he created above, the curvature and lines of the word appear in the following downloads. Each of the Glassy wallpapers includes a piece of the logo, smashed with the classic apple spectrum of colors, matching the timeline of the typeface.
My favorite of the collection is Glassy III with the almost gradient-like color change between yellow, red, and orange, with hints of green, chartreuse, pink, and vermillion. The curvature of the Apple typeface logo breaks the colors with a white strike boarder. Although the colors are separated they work to harmonize across the canvas.
