LimitCharging can limit iPhone charging to a certain battery percent to prevent premature battery wear

Some people are more battery conscious than others when it comes to their iPhones — especially folks who keep their devices for longer than one or two years and want their battery capacity to last.

For this reason, iOS developer zqbb has released a new and free jailbreak tweak called LimitCharging that lets users specify an upper limit of battery percentage after which the iPhone will stop charging while it’s connected to a power source.

Not only does the tweak halt charging after a certain battery percentage is reached, but the tweak can display a message on the Lock Screen while charging to indicate whether the iPhone is currently charging or being limited.

Once installed, the tweak adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few options:

The things that users can change here include:

  • Toggle LimitCharging on or off on demand
  • Configure a battery percentage after which to limit charging
  • Toggle the Lock Screen’s status indicator message on or off on demand
  • Set the charging status text
  • Set the limiting status text
  • Configure the X & Y coordinate values for the positioning of the text
  • Reset all settings to their defaults
  • Respring to apply those settings
  • And more…

By configuring an upper limit of battery charging, you can prevent premature aging of your iPhone’s battery. Those who are more anal about their batteries will likely want to dabble with this sort of thing, but day to day iPhone users who upgrade their devices regularly may not care as much.

When it comes to the frequency of jailbreaks being released these days, however, hanging on to older devices running older firmware is a more common practice than one might think, so preventing premature battery wear and tear can be a good thing.

If you’re interested in giving LimitCharging a try, then you can download it for free from the BigBoss repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.
