Limneos’ Glow jailbreak tweak gets support for Serotonin “semi-jailbreak” & adds more features

Some of you may recall back in 2021 when seasoned iOS developer Elias Limneos released Glow, a jailbreak tweak that attempted to lend a more configurable always-on display experience on pwned iPhones than Apple ever could.

The feature set and configurability of Glow, paired with the fact that it came from a reputable jailbreak tweak developer who has been known for releasing quality pieces of work for more than a decade, made it a popular choice among jailbreakers. But how about now that jailbreaks aren’t as ubiquitous as they once were?

Well, we have some good news for you, especially if you’re on a recent (but not the latest firmware). Limneos on Friday announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Glow was being updated to version 0.6 to be fully compatible with the RootHide bootstrap when paired with the Serotonin system tweak injection method (or “semi-jailbreak,” as some call it).

While Glow already supported jailbreaks on iOS & iPadOS 15 and 16, it’s worth noting that the latest public jailbreak for arm64e devices (A12 and newer) at the time of this writing is Dopamine with support for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1, while for arm64 devices (A11 and older) is palera1n with support for iOS & iPadOS 15.x-17.x.

With no jailbreak for arm64e devices on iOS or iPadOS 16 yet (at least not until Dopamine 2 comes to fruition), Limneos’ only viable option for the time being was to add support for the Serotonin semi-jailbreak, as it allows jailbreak tweaks to run without a jailbreak thanks to exploiting the power of the CoreTrust bug used by TrollStore.

In addition to picking up support for Serotonin, Glow v0.6 and onward also introduce an option to enable Lock Screen display dimming, just like what you’d get on a stock iOS 16 or 17 device with a native always-on display, as well as an option to choose the color of your glow effect.

Whether you’re using Serotonin or you’re using a full-fledged jailbreak, Glow v0.6 is a nice update that makes it operate more like a native always-on display while also giving you more features to customize the user experience than you’d ever get on a stock device.

Glow options to configure.

Just as before, you’re able to configure a wide variety of options with Glow, including the type of widgets that appear on your Lock Screen, glow effect frequencies, automatic timeouts, custom colors, and more. The tweak automatically displays a charging indicator, effects when you receive notifications, and more. It also intelligently preserves battery.
