Limneos ports BioProtect app-locking jailbreak tweak to Serotonin “semi-jailbreak” for RootHide bootstrap

BioProtect by veteran iOS developer Limneos is perhaps one of the most popular jailbreak tweaks ever created for using biometrics to secure your individual iPhone and iPad apps.

BioProtect announced for Serotonin “semi-jailbreak” by Limneos.

Not only has BioProtect been around for a long time for jailbroken devices, but as of last night, Limneos took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce a new build of the jailbreak tweak that is intended to be used with the Serotonin tweak injection method (also known as a “semi-jailbreak”) for the RootHide bootstrap.

What does all of this mean? In essence, if you’re using the RootHide bootstrap, you can install Serotonin to have system tweak injection without a jailbreak; and now, you can install BioProtect on that same non-jailbroken device to enjoy many of the same features that only a jailbroken device would ordinarily have access to.

The Serotonin semi-jailbreak works with kernel file descriptor (kfd) exploit-supported firmware on devices that also have TrollStore installed on them. That said, you can use the new BioProtect on iOS & iPadOS versions 16.0-16.6.1.

BioProtect XS also already supports iOS & iPadOS 16 because of palera1n, so it should be smooth sailing for Limneos to get it to support the upcoming Dopamine 2 jailbreak when that comes out (assuming it doesn’t already work just fine out of the box).

You can refer to one of our full reviews to see what BioProtect is capable of, but the short of it is that you can use biometrics to lock individual apps. In other words, you can lock down apps you consider sensitive so that you will need to use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock them every time you launch them from the Home Screen.

BioProtect XS

This is particularly useful for when you hand your unlocked iPhone or iPad to a friend or stranger because it can prevent them from entering those apps to snoop through your personal information when they’re only supposed to be making a phone call or something else that you approved for them to do.

If you’re interested in trying out the new BioProtect for Serotonin and the RootHide bootstrap, then Limneos says you can acquire it from his personal repository. If you’re not already using it, you can find the URL for it to add to Sileo below:
