Chrome for iPhone gains the bottom address bar option

Google has updated its Chrome browser on the iPhone and iPad with the option to use the bottom address bar for easier one-handed operation.

You can move Chrome’s address bar to the bottom of the screen in two ways. Firstly, you can touch and hold the URL bar and choose Move address bar to bottom or Move address bar to top to swap its position. Secondly, you can select the Address Bar option in the Chrome settings to choose your preferred spot.

Moving the URL bar to the bottom allows for easier one-handed operation on large-screened smartphones. This setting is available today, but you’ll need to use at least Chrome for iOS v119.0 on your iPhone or iPad.

Chrome for iPhone gains the bottom bar option like Safari

“We know people prefer different address bar positions depending on the size of their hands and devices, and we took those preferences into account when building this highly requested feature,” the company wrote in a post on its Keyword blog.

The new bottom bar setting requires Chrome for iOS v119.0 or later. If you don’t want to wait days before your device automatically downloads the update, go to the Chrome page on the App Store and click the Update button. If you see the Open button instead, your installed copy of Chrome is already up to date.

This version of Chrome brings other new features. The Password Checkup feature in the Chrome settings will flag saved passwords that are weak or reused. Apple has a similar password-auditing feature for identifying compromised passwords in Safari.

If you use Chrome with a work or school account, you can now save a payment card from Chrome to your Google account. And when switching platforms, you’ll see the recent tabs from your old Android phone the first time you sign in to Chrome on your iPhone.
