tvOS 17.1 expands Enhance Dialogue to original HomePod & HomePod mini, enhances Music app

Apple released updated for pretty much all its major devices on Wednesday, including the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, but it’s also worth noting that Apple released tvOS 17.1 for compatible Apple TV models as well.

tvOS 17.1 software update.

The official change log for tvOS 17.1 is as follows:

This update adds support for Enhance Dialogue on HomePod mini and HomePod (1st generation) when paired with Apple TV 4K, and includes performance and stability improvements.

Like those updates that were introduced for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, tvOS 17.1 also brings improvements to the Music app on Apple TVs relating to Favorites and how they appear in your playlists, but these aren’t specifically mentioned in the change log.

And… yeah, that’s pretty much it. Apple TV updates aren’t generally as feature rich as those released for the other aforementioned devices, but it’s still a good idea to keep your Apple TV updated, as these updates often introduce new features, improve overall stability, and address security vulnerabilities that otherwise leave you unprotected from bad actors.

Getting the latest version of tvOS installed on your Apple TV is as simple as waking the device up and navigating to Settings → System → Software Update. The on-screen prompt and instructions will walk you through downloading and installing the update beyond that.

You will not be able to unplug or power off your Apple TV during the software update process, so be sure to make sure it’s connected to a stable power connection before proceeding.
