If you have a pair of AirPods Pro 2, then you might want to know that there’s a new firmware update available for them that Apple says incorporates important bug fixes.
The update, coined version 6A303, is available for both the AirPods Pro 2 with the original Lightning-based charging case, and the brand-new AirPods Pro 2 with the newer USB-C-based charging case. This means that both versions of Apple’s popular active noise-cancelling in-ear headphones are now running the same firmware version since the newer model launched alongside the new iPhone 15 & 15 Pro lineups this year.
The official release notes for Apple’s new AirPods 2 Pro version 6A303 firmware are very vague as to what’s new in this update, apart from saying “bug fixes and other improvements.” These updates to Apple’s headphones are typically vague by nature, likely because the bugs fixed are so small that they don’t noticeably impact performance.
You can easily see what firmware version your AirPods Pro 2 are running by navigating on your iPhone to: Settings → Bluetooth and then tapping on the information button beside your paired AirPods Pro 2 to view more information and then viewing the About section to see more:
It’s not a straightforward process to update AirPods Pro 2 either. Apple automates this process for end users, and all models of AirPods update their firmware automatically when they’re charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac connected to Wi-Fi. Users can also visit an Apple Store to have their AirPods Pro 2 firmware updated if they don’t have one of the listed devices (hi Android users who use AirPods).
