The iPhone SE 4 should adopt the iPhone 14’s design, swap Touch ID for Face ID, use USB-C instead of Lightning and sport an Action button.
That’s according to a leaker who goes by the handle Unknownz21 on X, also known as URedditor, who recently published some of the claimed features believed to be coming to the next iPhone SE.
He claims the handset should have a design similar to the iPhone 14 with its flat edges, minus the multi-camera setup on the back, as the iPhone SE 4 is expected to have a single-lens rear shooter.
iPhone SE 4 could have Face ID (and a notch)
USB-C is also guaranteed, given that the iPhone 15 family will start Apple’s transition from Lightning to USB-C for smartphone charging and data.
Adding Face ID means the next iPhone SE will drop its outdated design. Instead of that massive forehead at the top and the chin at the bottom with a Home button, Face ID will bring a modern fullscreen appearance to Apple’s most affordable handset—along with a notch.
If true, this will be the most significant design change to the iPhone SE since its inception. The first model, released in 2016, resembled the iPhone 5S.
An OLED display and Apple’s first 5G modem
The second and third-generation iPhone SE, released in 2020 and 2022, have virtually the same design as the iPhone 8. Apple has gotten away with selling a smartphone with an outdated design, which has helped it keep development and manufacturing costs low.

With the Face ID design around since the iPhone X in 2017, Apple has had plenty of time to perfect its manufacturing processes. Thanks to economies of scale, the company enjoys saving in costs through increased production.
This should enable Apple to redesign the iPhone SE around Face ID without making the device more expensive. Just don’t expect perks like multiple rear cameras or a top-notch display because now you’re entering the “normal iPhone” territory.
According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone SE 4 will also use OLED instead of LCD technology. The phone should run Apple’s latest system-on-a-chip and become the first iPhone to use Apple’s custom modem. The fourth-generation iPhoneSE should arrive sometime in 2024, the analyst has it.
