The iPhone 15 Pros could come in a new shade of blue that might be pretty similar to the blue finish on the iPhone 12 Pros, only darker.
The new blue shade could look better in person thanks to the rumored titanium finish on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of stainless steel. These devices could also come in silver, space gray/space black and titanium gray shades.
iPhone 15 Pros could come in a new blue or red color
The information was provided by the Twitter account Unknownz21. According to MacRumors, the titanium gray finish is a lighter silver-gray version than the space gray/space black shade. By comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are available in silver, gold, space black and deep purple.
The report contradicts an earlier story by 9to5Mac, which claimed that a new dark red color option would become the iPhone 15 Pros’ exclusive color finish. Described as a “crimson” shade, this colorway may be “a little lighter” than the iPhone 14 Pro’s deep purple color but “still very deep,” according to the publication’s source.
There is always a chance that Apple is using the blue to test PVD coating on the new titanium material and will transition to a different color for the launch version of the iPhone 15 Pro, but the blue being used for prototyping likely indicates that it is one of the color options that Apple plans to provide for the next-generation smartphones. MacRumors has seen extensive evidence confirming that Apple has used the blue color for prototype versions of the iPhone 15 Pro.
Speaking of non-Pro iPhones, multiple reports also suggested the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could introduce a new green color option that’s apparently unlike the mint-like green colorway that Apple used in the past.
“As for the iPhone 15 models, colors that we know of so far include a bright pink shade, a bright blue, and a green color,” MacRumors writes.
Why are iPhone Pros unavailable in vibrant colors?
It’s always bugged me that you can’t get a Pro-branded iPhone in one of the vibrant colors available on non-Pro models. For example, consider the color finishes available for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus: blue, purple, yellow, midnight, starlight and red. There’s no confusion around any of these colors.
They’re so vibrant and distinct!
So why are the iPhone Pro colors so subdued? I always buy Pro-branded iPhones. My iPhone 12 Pro was a pacific blue version, and my current iPhone 14 Pro Max has a deep purple finish. Unless I’m looking at these phones at the right angle, I can’t really tell the difference and I’m not even color-blind.
One possible explanation could be branding. “Pro” implies a specific type of user who—in Apple’s mind—shies away from vibrant colors. There may be some merit to this thinking because many people aren’t really going to care about the colorway because they’ll put on a case to protect their investment.
While this is anecdotal evidence, I’ve spotted far more people on the streets rocking non-Pro iPhones without a case than I’ve seen folks with iPhone Pros using a case.
